Two basic questions: game length and balance

  • cheers!

    1. how long it takes to play the game on average?
    2. is it balanced? if not, which side has the upper hand?

    thanks so much!

  • With dedicated players that have an idea what they want to do for the first two turns, you might get one side to resign in four hours, but it could take much longer.  It will also take longer to play your first games while you figure out what you want to accomplish in the first three or four turns.

As for balance, I haven’t played that many games yet, but it appears the Allies have the upper hand.  Assuming UK doesn’t fall, the Germans are not likely to finish the Russians before the UK and US have whalloped the Italians, regaining Cairo and Rome.

Seven Cities is too easy for Axis and eight is too many.

  • I’ve played 4 games of AAE40. Shortest game lasted 4 hours.
Longest lasted just shy of 7 hours, had to stop, called it a stalemate with US and UK about to take Rome and liberate Paris.

Definitely balanced towards allies unless axis start Barbarossa early.

  • with my friends face-to-face we need minimum 1 hour per round.
actually everything depends on germanny´s first strike against france and the british fleet. the allies are forced to be kind of spectators in the first phase of this game. so there is a lot to consider for the axis, that is why it takes its time.

actually, i think a game like this in 4 hours with our group…impossible! :D

    greetz
