• @TG:

Well the Axis are given an option to this. If there are enough players, then one person will be designated Italy. Otherwise, Germany will assume control of Italy.

    Oh I see.

  • Eurica!!!

Ok after several practice games with all 6 players and then several more by myself (yes i play by myself) i have tweeked the rules enough to have italy well balance in the game.

Algeria 2ipc, Lybia 2ipc Southern Europe 10ipc all under italian control. total of 14 germany reduced to 26 to start
in southern europe 2inf 1 tank 1 fighter ( i made the west indys mini map also southern europe becase it can get crowded and whos ever had that many troops in the west indys that they needed to use the mini map?)
in algeria 1inf 1 tank german troops. in libya 1 inf 1 tank italian troops.
center med sz 1 BB german 1 sub 1 trans italian. red sea 1 sub 1 trans italian.
also 1 inf UK in italian east africa and 1 additinal German sub in baltic sea for total of 2 subs 1 trans. and italy’s first AC only costs 10ipc
all other placments are the same as normal.

ever game was a little diferent and neithor side seemd to have an advantage. inital control of africa is no longer decided in the first few turns. at the end of one of my games italy and Uk were still fighting for contol over the belgian congo (UK built factory in south africa).

if there are any more descepencys or any new sugestions plese let me know.
oh ya almost forgot italy’s turn is first then russia then germany ect.

    see ya

  • Adding Italy is a cool idea, but if you were going to do this and try to stay historically accurate then you should give Italy all of North Africa and Morroco. Egypt should stay british, b/c even thought italy did get VERY close to capturing it… they never did. And if you are going to make italy so strong then i would recomend adding 1 brit infintry in French west africa and equatorial africa b/c italy could just blitz through those territories the first turn and not attack the brits. if you dont do this then you should at least give the brits an industrial complex somewhere in africa/mid east or theyre doomed. and italy would get the balkans if that territory did exist but definatly not finland. and the italian did have a very good naval fleet (second to brazil i believe) so they would have a Battleship (or two if you wanted to get really accurate) and 1 transport, but the brits would then need an additional sub fleet in gibralter (b/c that is what ened up sinking that huge battleship fleet) and for even crazier history you would add two infantry to eastern europe (yes they were massacred but… eh) heres how id do it…
    Italy 8, balkans 3, libya, 2, algeria 2, tunisia (i would add it…) 1, morocco 1, and sicily (if you use it) 1 = a nice total of 18
    -EK

  • with the balkans and such the map would require a lot of tinkering

  • i could not make that much modifacation to the map, (that area is crowded as it is). and it is historicly accurite to the leval of every thing else. if you wanted to make it really accurite you should give the US 3 AC’s, give Russia 25 inf on every teitory but have them on 0 attack
and give germany 5 bombers to start.
    see my point

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh. yes I do see

  • how about making a new space between libya and egypt and call it the western desert

  • whos ever had that many troops in the west indys that they needed to use the mini map?)

    i have

one game i played, japan got VERY VERY strong and ended up taking out america after it crushed russia but not before england took germany with a massive stalemate in east europe so i ended up putting tons of bombers in the west indies and bombed them to death. to make a long story short it was a VERY VERY long game. that was the longest a&a game i ever played

  • who would occupy it and what units would be there?

  • the fighters kinda represent the tactical bombers the germans liked to use. but unfortunatly a&a is not historically accurate. for that i would try out advanced third reich or empire of the rising sun. a word of caution third reich is not a game you can “jump” into.

  • i would say italy would occupy not sure what to put there. you have to be careful not to weaken england too much in africa. 1/3 of thier income is in africa. although the allies would have to do an operation torch. giving ger the time it needs

  • maybe instead of just 1 territiory inbetween egypt and libya, maybe you should have 2. one be allied and one be axis, but give the axis a tiny little bit of an advantage

  • @TG:

FIAT!? I can’t believe they actually made airplanes once. Anyways, the main Italian fighter I was thinking about was the Caproni Reggiana Re 2001 Falco II (1942). Not only did this plane look right but it flew right. Deadly with it’s Alfa Romeo-built Daimler-Benz DB 601 A engines in the skills of experienced Italian pilots. I wish I had some pictures to show, it was that nice looking compared with the snub nose “Arrow.”

I know it’s an old post but i wanted to bring something to the attention of the guys who want to add Italy…
1.the italian tanks were tin cans with very thin armor and 20-50 mm main guns (if i’m correct and im 90% sure) so the italians couldn’t match the british and US tanks (average 75 mm main gun and about 5 inch armor)

    2. the italian rifle or model 38 carcano were notoriously terrible for blowing up in there owners face in fact the j\k among italian troops was that the rifle “never killed anyone on purpose.”

3.as far as my memory (and research) can remember the italian fighters were only armed with 1 20 mm gun complimented by 2 7.62 mm machine guns… compare to early war models of the british hurricane and spit…
    hurr. : 4 20mm
    Spit. :8 .303 caliber or 2 20 mm and 4 .303 caliber
not to forget that the british were more maneuverable… maybe not as fast but soon enough there speed caught up…
    4. the whole italian battleship fleet was sunk nov. 1940-mar. 1941 leaving it with only destroyers…

i know i pulled it from pg. 1 but just remember they really did not do a whole lot.the allies could outproduce them all(axis)s the war dragged on the italians… well no wonder they joined the allies!!!

  • Just wanted to get this back to the top … as I’m in the process of making some “House Rules” to add Italy to the game. ANY input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
