Got another  question. Setup for territory:Germany says 1 Strat. Bombers. Is this a mistake in the plural sense or should Germany have two or more Bombers at their disposal?
Same question for territory:Japan on Fighters and Strat.Bombers.

      Thanks again

Ahhh… Two years absent from the wonderful world of AA , and I return to find a scenario for G42! Very pleased to see this :)
Last version I played was HBG’s G39, awesome yet frustrating at times.

I have only so much time to dive into the posts on this forum… Are there any friendly ppl here who could direct me to threads containing AAR’s of G42 along with other setups/scenarios?

      Thanks in advance.

Tomorrow a friend an myself will start up a game. I can not begin to say how much I look forward to this :D

      Happy gaming, folks!

    • RE: A plea!! Please help me play my favorite game.

      Dear frustrated General.

I often find myself in the same predicament, so I’d like to share a few things that has worked well:

The ultimate choice: Find likeminded people, who don’t mind spending their time on boardgames. I posted a few threads on a couple of boardgame forums in my country, and was fortunate enough to get new friends - amazingly enough with social antennas and a healty realtionship to soap and water!

Have different players control nations that go after one another. I.E US/UK
Attempt to have purchase ready before nation prior to you finish up. (Give leeway for changes ofc… I usually have Germany/Japan and US ready way ahead of my turn, changing as I see fit until I start combat moves)
Set a time limit for different nations, buy a chessclock or something similar. Agree on a set time for nations, longer for the bigger nations etc. In certain parts of the game, Italy and Anzac will usually not affect each other… they might be taken at the same time. Russia and US while not at war can also do their stuff as Japan/UK does its - when deemed appropriate.
      Designate a guy as bank/IPC tracker/nat.objective/convoy raiding
Let newcomers settle in with smaller nations
If you are playing with 4 or more, cut down on discussions, try to start with an agreed startegy, have someone be commander in chief ;) Also, haggling about rules could take a looong time sorting out, so make sure you all are more or less into them. (ambiguous as they often are…)

Hope that is somewhat helpful, best of luck on your games!

    • RE: Is it possible to win as the allies after sealion?

So is it possible to win as the allies after sea lion?

It is very much possible. This weekend I played against a friend, and decided to go for London/Calcutta. Both of us have like 20+ global games, so level of experience is past the newbie stadium ;)
I took both capitols round 4. However, Russia seeded massively into China, and actually liberated Calcutta later on - round 7ish. US went 80/20 pac/atl and harassed Japan big time, convoy raiding Tokyo, leading up to a huge naval battle outside of Hong Kong. Really smart blocking moves preventing return for Japanese navy to Tokyo… Utter failure for Japan (dices sooo not going my way), resulting in Japan loosing all ther naval forces after 2 more rounds.
The US then went 100% atlantic…
By that time I had Italy making about 50IPC, taken Africa, and middle east, pressing up to Caucasus, but loosing pace as a result of US pressure in the mediterranean.
Germany took London, with heavy casualties. Ended up with a huge battle in Eastern Poland where I routed USSR, but he kept his airforce, and managed to turtle Moscow, reinforced with Anzac fighters, and US mech/tanks from French Indochina.
Dice failed me twice on attacking Moscow, and from there it was downhill :p By far the biggest, most exciting game I ever had. Would like to see the outcome had Japan not been taken out the way it was. The game was wide open until Moscow. Odds were more or less 50-50, but then again, dice can never be trusted!!

    • RE: Factories

      @wittman:

Thank you both. Do either of you think the US, and possibly Russia, should have IPCs and movements frozen until attacked? This would better reflect axis surprise attacks.

Now that is an interesting idea! Out of historical context the thing that really bugged me when playing as japan is the lack of a potent surprise attack, and the same ability to dig deep into Russia as Germany. Of course, playing as the Axis there is a limit to me wanting a true historical setting ;)
Would have been fun to see a discussion on pro’s and con’s for your suggestion, or even tweaking it to a stack limit or limited action radius, similar to what the US already has in the Atlantic.
Good thinking, even though it may not happen - officially ;)

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      @Krieghund:

      1.  You’re right - Korea is the only option.

      2.  The defender fighters will fire, killing transports with any hits, as they have no other target.  If both attacking transports are killed, the battle is over, as no units remain that can hit each other or retreat.  If any attacking transports survive, the attacker may retreat.  There is no way the attacker can win this sea battle, as no units that could hit the fighters were brought to the battle, so bringing the transports along was pointless.

What happens to the defending transport varies with the outcome of the battle.  If the subs get three or more hits on the initial attack, it will be sunk.  If it survives the first round and the attacker retreats, it will live.  If the battle ends with only attacking subs and defending fighters in the sea zone, it will be sunk.

In any case, the fighters will land on New Zealand after the battle is over.

      Thanks, Krieg! Much appreciated :D

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      Hi, all!

So, after last nights very long global alpha +2 game, I have a couple of questions…

      1. Where exactly can Japan build another major IC? My opponents built one in China. I know that Alpha +2 states Major IC is possible only in an originally controlled territory. And per the Pac40 rulebook, all mainland territories are considered originally chinese. My reasoning is that Korea is the only option for Japan and its major IC… I’d really appreciate a ruling on that matter, as my opponents did not accept my arguments and built a Major IC. (don’t remember which territory, the one north of Kwangtung, I believe… was getting very late… ;) )

      2. Japan controls New Zealand. The seazone is occupied by 1CV, 2fighters and 1 transport. 2 guys on New Zealand. As the US, I have 4 subs, 2 transports and 4 guys to attack. Question is… I surprise strike the carrier, and then what???
-remaining fighters sink my transports and then land?

      • remaining fighters only land to defend New Zealand
      • or something completely different??

      In advance, thanks!

      Hi all!

UK has 2 nat.obj. Who collects those as UK economy is split between London and Calcutta? We figured that it should end up in London, but I’d like to hear opinions/official answer.

      Dear Krieg ;)

Last game saw a lively discussion concerning a combat move where I, as UK, attacked the German fleet. I attacked with only bombers and fighters, Germany had 1 carrier, 2 fighters, 1 cruiser and 4 subs. 2 transports as well.

My question: Can Germany use his subs as casualties when I attack with only air units?

    • RE: An Allied strategy

      Hi, all!

Thanks to BigDog for great thinking outside of the box.

I had what was propably the best game so far yesterday. I wanted to apply this strategy, and did so with the US. Unfortunately, my co-player (UK & Russia) wanted to go a little more extreme into India, buying a factory and later 2 Battleships and 1Carrier. Ferrying the 2Fighters from London via Moscow to land on the Carrier. The Japanese player did not se this coming… He did manage the usual and occupy the entire Pacific, but being too spread out caught between the UK and US fleet he had  to retreat towards the mainland for naval reinforcements. Japan did not contribute towards capturing Moscow. The UK fleet was destroyed, with India being captured. But this allowed the US to retake all of the Islands and capture all Jap islands as well. Japan mainland was taken, and the fleet utterly destroyed when racing back to liberate Japan. The best naval battle ever!!
Unfortunately this led to Italy and Germany sharing Africa and the Russian territories after Italy had an income of 44 on its peak (34+2 nat obj) and Germany scoring around 60 - objectives included.
This led to a combined effort on London, I believe we held out 4 assaults before Germany finally succeded in occupying London.

So in retrospect i believe that this was a bit too much of an “all out” in the Pacific. Containing Japan led to Italy reaching new heights, and I believe that it is much better for the Allies to secure Africa and contain Italy. Also leaving a strong fleet in the Atlantic to be able to support Russia if need be. Either directly on Russian soil, or maintaining a possibillity to invade France/Italy. The US was not able to liberate Australia, Borneo and East Indies before Africa was totally occupied, leaving UK with a few rounds of very little income. Holding Africa with the intent of liberating India later on seems to me like a stronger option.

Finding the right moment to strike at Japan still eludes me, and I am very much looking forward to the next game where I will certainly try something else than a KGF.

    • Oslo, Norway - small group looking for extra players

Text will follow in Norwegian, as it is intended for Norwegians

    • RE: Should Germany take Brazil G1?

Definetely worth a shot, if axis are able to get out of the med unharmed… I do like the idea of diverting the US player’s attention - sort of similar to a Japanese invasion of Alaske. A funny thought would be a german IC in Brazil, a couple of bombers and fighters to boost, combined with a Japanese landing,  and all of the sudden you would have a very concerned US player. Remains to bee seen if it is worth the effort, but I would like to try it out.

    • RE: What's the worst luck you've had in trying to take a territory?

This one I have yet to recover from… Me as Germany in round one. I set up the normal attack on Egypt; the units from Algeria, transport from France and launch ze bomber as well. Of the games I’ve played I’d say that this is 9 out of 10 times a victory for Germany, if not the Italians are there for the mop-up.
This particular time I do not score a single hit, the British player scoring on all his dices, causing soooo much laughter from one side and cursing from the other…
To add insult to injury, I do not score a single hit on my next two attacks in the atlantic. The Royal Navy is still afloat. Add more spite from the allies, and I’m sure you get the idea of my mood at the time…
Needless to say, Italy lost their fleet and were pretty much out of it, Japan made a mess out of things in the Pacific, and I called for endgame and begged to start a new game since everything went straight to h**l. Obviously the Allies would have none of that, resulting in 6 rounds of evil laughter, bad dice upon bad dice and finally conceeding after US liberated Manilla. (We have this “gentlemens” agreement of sticking it out until the very end - fun when you’re winning, not as much when you’re not…)

And the worst thing is… this was my third-in-a-row loss with same players on both sides. I lost as the Allies on the two previous games when Germany in game one got lucky with long range aircraft and took out my British unprotected transports whom I believed were safe and out of reach of everything… Never had a chance to recover and put pressure on Germany’s western front, lost Moscow and had no chance in the long run.
Something similar happened in game two, Germany again gets lucky and rolls double six for heavy bombers. I’ve firmly established myself in France with both UK and my partner coming in with the US. In our arrogance, we land a total of 4 US bombers there as well… Needless to say, we were not well established and swept back to the atlantic by 4 german bombers, soldiers and tanks, me not scoring at all in defence. All our offensive power gone, we lost Moscow again and could never threaten Germany before they became too large.

Imagine three games of beeing taunted, laughed at, and beeing totally out of luck… I’ll be playing Monopoly for a while now…  :-o

Hello all! Long time reader, first time poster…
There’s one thing that’s been bugging me for a while; my playgroup and I are divided as to the possibillity of reinforcing a newly conquered territory with ground units during the non combat move phase. Now, I know the rules say that you’re not allowed to land fighters, but there is no clear statement in the rulebook concerning ground units - which is why I feel that it is allowed. Anyone out there that could help to clarify?
