      Hmm. Maybe another way to scroll the map that might feel more ‘right’: if you position the mouse pointer on the far left edge of the map, the map will slowly scroll left. Same is true of top or bottom. Also, clicking to where you want to view on the mini-map in the upper right will re-position the view to that general area.

      Thanks, Hobbes for the link to the AA50 game - I didn’t know there was one…  :-)

      @frimmel:

      @polywog:

      I’ve found Revised to be much more re-playable, though did enjoy a brief and fun spell with Pacific not too long ago.

      ps. Hi all - been away for a year or so. What’d I miss?

      Mostly everything in the Anniversary Edition forum. Those are the most active boards at the moment. Switch resigned but much else remains business as usual.

      Thanks, Frimmel. Pardon the thread hi-jack. I wondered about Switch - I saw a few posts by him as “guest”. What happened? Or is it a sensitive subject?

    • RE: Replacement Cruisers

      This was the first thing I noticed when I opened the box. I was pretty impressed that AH had the replacements on hand and was able to send them out so quickly. I received my replacements in about a week!

      Mine too (both of them). I’m sure it didn’t help that the molded plastic pre-form it came in was also bent.

      I soaked one for a few minutes in hot watter then twisty-locked it to a piece of flat aluminium for 24 hours and that mostly straightened it out. It sill only seems to touch a flat table in 2 places, though….

      Any suggestions for unbending bent ships?

      My worst are my two USS Fletchers (look like less exaggerated n’s)  and  two HMS Truculents (look a lot like u’s)

    • RE: WaS Collections

      @unc_samurai:

      I’ve bought a case of boosters, an extra booster, and two starters.  I’m 9 rares and 2 uncommons short of a set, so I’m getting a second case.  Hopefully I’ll have enough trade fodder to finish the set.  My biggest problem is I got none of the big US rares out of the box, so I’ve had to buy/trade for them.

      Have you gotten the 2nd case yet? If so, how did you do?

      I bought 1 starter, 1 booster and 1 case.

      In the case, I got a repeat of every unit from the starter and booster except 1 (HMS Rodney). In all, I drew an excellent fleet except NO CARRIERS at all until I was on the 3rd to last box, then drew Shokaku, Shoho, St. Lo and Princeton, the latter 2 from the same box. …Also ended up completing the French navy  :-(

      Rare-wise, I did end up overall with:

      Iowa
      Yamato
      Tone
      Kongo
      Tennesee
      Rodney
      Graf Spee (x2  :-))
      Vitorio Veneto
      Richelieu
      Shokaku
      Exeter
      Princeton
      Bolzano

      The magnet pieces: I ended up with 4 Hurricanes, 3 Stukas, 3 U-510’s (good), 3 Italian Ambras (less good), 3 Samuel B. Roberts.

      Also, the fleet orientation is surprisingly balanced: 510 points for the allies, 549 for the axis

      Yup. If the would-be assassin misses, the target rolls a die. On a 9 or higher, he picks one of your generals for head chopping.

      Great game.

      I played my first on-line game with both my board and TripleA… Somehow, a stack of 5 red chips under a plastic infantry is more sobering than a number next to an icon!

    • RE: Find Opponents Here!

      Another poster (naturally, I can’t find the thread now) did a sort of pact of steel “lite” that uses the revised setup but splits Germany (territories and forces) between Germany and Italy. It looks like the only difference is Germany is worth 20 ipcs instead of 10. I haven’t tried this one yet, but it looks more winable as the allies than pact of steel…

      (drop the .doc extension to play it)

      @ezto:

      Anyone wanna try the triplea Pact of steel with me? It seems fun and really unbalanced for the allies.

      Looks interesting - I’d consider it if it were a 3-on-3 team game. That would be cool.

      What do you mean by unbalanced for the Allies? The Allies have a big advantage? Or it is stacked against them?

      We could do a “Liberals v. Conservatives” game. Of course, the conservatives would have to play the Axis powers…

      The allies are definitely at a disadvantage - lots of added income for the defense of Europe + essentially two turns for Germany.

      I would play a 3 on 3 game though. I’m politically indifferent, though my salad years living in Boston I probably tend to err on the liberal side.

    • RE: The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World

      @whoman69:

      I wouldn’t at all say stomped.  In fact he was not defeated, merely not able to further advance due to the logistics.

      Logistically, beginning the overland journey from Boston to Quebec City in September was a dumb idea to begin with, but Arnold then lost the part of his army that hadn’t died from disease or exposure in his attack on the city itself. The city was held with the loss of only 5 of its defenders. Arnold should get credit, however, for having his men going into the attack on Dec 31st knowing that their enlistment was up the following day…

    • RE: German bid: Two infantry in West Russia. Yay or nay?

      @goldenbearflyer:

      @newpaintbrush:

      That isn’t another way to ask the question. That, sir, is threadjacking. Which as I am sure you know is a proud tradition here.

      But by all means, let us call a spade a spade!

      –

      Baltic transport, Mediterranean transport, French Indochina infantry, Manchurian infantry, Japanese transport. All bids worthy of consideration, I think. Not to say that Ukraine infantry doesn’t have its charm, but I’ve tried that variation enough to believe that I wouldn’t go for it unless I can put at least 2 infantry there.

      OK, it’s a spade.  Just trying to keep the thread going… the masses have spoken:  13-0 against 2inf in WRus.  :lol:

      So it begs the question, what other moves do you like.  Yeah, those sound like good ideas.  Funny, I hear so little about bid units for J.  Inf in FIC seems very helpful.

      …make it 14.

      My limited experience with bidding is that I like to put bid units where I can attack with them.

      @tonez:

      froodster and ncscswitch had some good suggestions and discussion after playing TripleA vs. game board, here:

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=9163.msg178614#msg178614

      I have also noticed that if the dicey bails during the roll, can’t find the server, etc, it is completely dumping back to windows. (Even with a valid exit/roll again dialog box). I’m seeing this in v9.02

      …one of these attempts I’m going to remember to save before rolling  :-)

    • RE: German strategy for building AC

      To expand a bit on what Newpaintbrush said: the AC helps you use the navy ON THEM. Really, the G2 navy linkup in SZ 7 with a bunch of supporting fighters in france forces a cetain set of moves on the allies. If I were you I wouldn’t expect the German fleet to live forever, but just having it makes the UK/US respond defensively for a turn or two. If you get lucky, the Allies will react wrong and you can exploit something. However, the whole point (and I think the key to the Axis game) is to stay on the initiative, forcing the Allies to respond to YOUR moves. Once that table turns and you find yourself mostly in reaction mode to allied moves, your days are numbered. IMHHO.

      The AC (or 3 TRN) purchase is one tactic to gain initiative.

      Of course, free advice is worth what you pay for it. In recent games, I’m 3-1 with the axis, 0-4 with the allies…  :-(

    • RE: Having Italy as the 6th player in revised axis and allies

      Cool. My cousin and I played 4 games of the “pact of steel” setup in tripleA and found through switching sides that defeating the axis was extremely difficult (Axis 4, Allies 0). Italy was simply too powerful & added too many units to the German defense of Europe each turn. It looks like this version with a “weaker” version of Italy may help balance this a bit better.

      One thing we both liked about having Italy as a power was that Germany could be a bit more offensively minded without worrying as much about getting stomped by the allies.

      I look forward to giving this a try. Thanks!
