      Japan is m fav country to play and like many other players I try not to get into static purchaces,  as its easy to counter.  I employ this strat to quickly balance the navy between the US and Japan, forcing US to build more on the pacific side.  Generally the first 2 or 3 turns i play with japan I purchace transports and ground units, I try to get as many troops to the main land so by turn 3  you have so many troops you can afford to slowly filter planes off the mainland to newly bought carriers.  I also load the land up because I find when I go to take the DEI this usually weakens my mainland leaving openings for China an UK.

      Yes, but I don’t know why it would want to.

      It might be usefull to get past some of japans navy.  It’s always good to know what options are avaiable.

      If USA is not netrual in this case I guess movement restrictions dont apply!?

      Does a sea zone have to be uncontested for a convoy disruption to work?  Japan sub beside java (uk owned) uk rolls in a crusier to kill the sub,  sub submerges.  Does the sub still cause a convoy disruption?

      A seazone does not need to be uncontested - the simple presence of an enemy ship disrupts the convoy, even if friendly ships are in the same seazone.  If the allies has a ship in SZ6 at the mobilize units phase of Japan’s turn, Japan could not prevent the disruption in any way, even if they placed a far numerically superior force.  If there’s an enemy ship, it disrupts - end of story.

      “Submerging” has no impact on any game phase beyond the combat phase - it is ONLY an ability of the submarine to disengage from the battle and remain in the same seazone.  The only time submarines can “submerge” is during combat and after combat is over, submarines are no longer considered submerged.  It is simply a retreat mechanism, it does not exist in any manner outside of the conduct combat phase.

      The “only” is implicitly on page 20 of the Rulebook, as that is the only place in the Rulebook that taking control of an allied power’s territory is mentioned.  In the absence of any other rules regarding taking such control, one may assume that it’s the only way it can be done, since no other provision is made for doing so.

      Italy has a navy in zone 110 uncontested, on Germanys turn they bring in transports and ships for an amphib on UK in same sea zone as Italian fleet.  Does the Italian fleet defend against the scramble from UK?

      No.  The scrambling is defense against Germany’s attack.  So like all other battles, friendly units in the seazone are not included.  On offense, only one power is involved.  On defense, multiple powers are involved.

      I guess I might need to qualify my statements a bit.

      1)  Germany needs their Luftwaffe at least as much as Great Brition, at least early in the game.  They need it to help against Russia and defend German/Italian boats early on and to sink British boats.

      2)  The risk/return does not really seem profitable in the short run.

      3)  Late in the game, or when you have determined you ARE going to do Sealion, it makes plenty of sense to pummel England’s Airbase and Industrial Complex.

      A) Without the airbase being repaired, they cannot scramble.  A decent idea (I think, never tried it) would be to have Italy sack the Airbase and have Germany follow up with attacks on IC. England Naval Base does not make sense to hit or repair, I think. B) Hopefully you are seriously going after England at this point, not “softening” them.  If you “soften” I would hope it would be against Russia. (If you are not going for England, you have to be going after Russia, right?  I hope you are not chasing ANZAC with Germany!)

      It’s my opinion.  Just an opinion.  Based on a game that has not been out long enough to make concrete decisions, at this point in time.

      What I think about…

      True. But depending on UK2, G2 planes might be available to hit London structures while not yet at war against Russia. And a good amoung of escorts might force UK not to jeopadize his fighters in interceptor run

      I just post to reply that. Unless I’m wrong, it’s just about even (risk = return)

      I would bomb IC big time tho, since it’s reduced to 6 damage max once you take London. Don’t think naval base will be any use for Germany, since the one in Normandy would do the work. Don’t think Airbase would be any use to Germany as Aircraft Carrier is most likely there and Airbase in Scotland might help too. Therefore, at this point (not played many games so far) I don’t see much reason to prevent Germany to “save” UK structures.
