Sorry to not have gotten back too you folks sooner, but I got rid of the A&A program that was giving me fits, and got the new one from here, and that one works wellā¦

My first game, a noobs mistakes, Lol.
Ok, so Iām playing a game of AE (or something like it in TripleA) with my first two fellow players.
I have to admit, I am hyped up, Iām just playing the USA/China. I didnāt read the rules before hand, and did my purchases as the USA of 2 inf, 1 bomber, one destroyer, and one carrier.
I tried to jump some german subs with all my continental aircraft, of 2 bombers + 2 fighters, but discovered that, yes, the rules had changed. Fortunately, my opponent was online, and graciously allowed me to reload the game and take my destroyer into the battle on attempt number 2.
The āBattle of the Atlanticā ended with the German submarines & the US destroyer all sunk. Like an idiot, I landed only the two bombers in the UK, and both fighters landed in eastern canada.
I then intended to transport troops and stage them in eastern canada, and grabbed my infantry and what I thought was my artillery from Eastern USA, and dropped them up in Eastern Canada. I then realized that it was not my artillery I had moved, but my AA gun. OOOps!
In China, again not having read the rules, I took a chance to strike at the Japanese, and was successful in retaking fukien, but then I withdrew the Flying Tigers, and placed my new three chinese troops well back from the front.
The Remnants of the US Pacific fleet are preparing to transit the panama canal for rushing to help my allies in Europe, but my A1 builds didnāt include any transports, so what help I can offer is going to be limited initially.
After I played, and found out how to post my turn, I discovered an error message when trying to send the save game file, and so sent it manually to the others.
After doing all this, I then (sheepishly) went and started reading the rules, and discovered yet another new thing, that there are somethings called tech tokens, and when you buy them, you keep them and get a roll every turn, until you get a tech, and then you turn in all tokens.
I understand that tech rolls are now an optional rule, and so must first get word from my fellow players on whether or not we are playing with those rules in this particular game or not.
Anyway, that about covers my first turn playing community members online!

RE: š Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)
@Valladares Hello there!
Iām so new, I have never used this particular software, and so my reply and intro seem merged into one post.
Iām CrazyIvan, and I donāt play anymore due to lack of time to meet up with all the guys I used to play with back in the day. I got my introduction to Classic back in the 1980ās, and have never played any other version of Axis & Allies, well, unless you count Original and second edition as being separate games. Without using the board and pieces, I have played a couple versions of the 1998 computer game, but that doesnāt want to play nicely with my windows 10 computer, so I right now cannot actually play at all.:white_frowning_face:
I recently discovered a thing called YouTube, and will be posting videos there within the next month or so. Right now, as I start the learning process, Iām going to be looking for help and suggestions on what kind of webcam I need to be able to capture the entire board. Right now, the videos I have made are either clear - but only show a part of the game board, or show all or mostly all of the board, but the pieces are so small as to be hard to see, and the spaces are also too crowded to clearly show the action, so looking for suggestions on how to position the webcam, the lighting, the board, and get the perfect zoom in on the game board.
I donāt know anything about the newer versions of the game, and for right now am only interested in classic second edition games. I found some interesting content on youtube, and that is how I ended up here, and am looking forward to getting some playing time in, making a few videos, and playtesting some house rules, as well as multi-board games using the classic board and pieces. Currently, I have no way to setup/play even a two board game, let alone a 4 board version. Later on this month, Iāll try to at least setup a two board version, but the cameras I have now will not be able to show much other than how the boards connect.
Anyway, there was a fellow that issued an āOpen Challengeā about a month ago, and I thought that I might as well try to get a game or three with him, if he has the time and interest.

@dan-hamilton Hi Dan! Welcome. Iām also a newbie here, so good to see another fresh face. :)

Classic rules, and some disagreements.
***Edited"***In the original Axis and Allies, Harris made it clear that the pieces to be used in the box were set as a limit of how many of those ābattle groupsā you could create.
forum wont let me post the linkā¦ let me try to get fancy:
www harrisgamedesign com/pdf/A&A_Classic_FAQ.pdf
The most obvious for this was the aircraft carrier. If you play with the straight up 2nd Edition rules for axis and allies classic, you could never have more than two carrier pieces on the board (white/red chips are āunlimitedā)"
For me, I would never consider playing without all the extra pieces I have, and so I have to ask, where exactly did this come from? It isnāt in any of the two sets of rules I am familiar with {1st and 2nd editions}, and as the 2nd edition offers additional sets of playing pieces right in the rule book on page #2, lower right hand corner, I have to cry foul on this. A&A is NOT Fortress America, where each army has an EXACT strength, and why in the world would folks be offered in the rules additional complete sets of 299 plastic playing pieces, if they were never going to be allowed to use them?!?!
I first saw this on a Youtube video, and the fellow held up to the camera some printout {from somewhere} that seemed to be saying this. If the rules themselves offer additional sets of pieces, and the paper that was held up to the camera even said that there were no limits to how many of a type of units a player can have, why in the world would anyone buy pieces that were not going to be allowed.
This seems to me to smell fishy. I donāt think that this is a hoax or anything along those lines, Iām betting that it is a misunderstanding or miscommunication somewhere in the past, and got grandfathered in somehow?
So let me ask, has anyone played by this āso-calledā rule? The reason I have to use the {so-called} tag here, is that IDK that this was ever in the actual rules of the game, but I think it is unlikely. I think that there was some attempt to justify this stuff, as somehow it figured into game balance, but I really cannot think how that could even work. It definitely would not be historical with regard to WWII.
Iāll have more later on, but for now looking for an answer to this question first from @AcesWild5049 and anyone else that can provide context.

RE: Chicago, IL area players ?
Well hello! Iām not interested in in person games, as my health is not so good these days, but I thought I would stop by an greet a fellow A&A player new to the boards!
Currently, I own classic (the 1980ās version) that I learned on, and recently purchased the Anniversary Edition game as well, and have been playing the 1941 startup version using the TripleA electronic game engine, which allows players to play from anywhere in the world in three formats.
So far, I have not played āonlineā, as that is played live and in real time, but Iām starting to enjoy playing PBF & PBEM formats. Play By Forum takes a little bit of setting up (very little), while Play By E-Mail is also interesting.
@Panther and @djensen will probably drop by shortly and officially welcome you to the board, as well as point you in the right direction for whatever you are looking for!
Again, welcome aboard!
