Diplomacy expansion VS Molotov-Ribbentrop pact

  • Basically, the diplomacy expansion override all OOB diplomacy / alignment conditions. Our group has always played that this doesn’t change anything about the Molotov pact though. My question is, should the diplomacy expansion basically make the Molotov pact not mean/d anything ? Does diplomacy really matter for Poland / Finland /the Baltic states ?

  • @theveteran I think if you align any of those countries before the pact is signed then it would override the provisions of the pact. Kind of like if someone on the axis side aligns Poland before the war starts they wouldn’t automatically align to UK at the start of the war any more. And we play it if someone attacks any of your aligned neutrals they have to declare war on you as well

  • @linkler why would you play that way? that’s not how the diplomacy expansion is designed. if you attack a neutral country that is controlled by a major power you are not at war with then that does not make the neutral power align, but remain controlled until the major power controlling the minor power is at war with you.

    1. about poland: it doesn’t automatically align to Poland if its attacked when under the molotov pact.

  • @theveteran oh right about Poland. In the diplomacy expansion it says level 3 (aligned minors) are guaranteed support if attacked - think Syria- France off the start of the game they are aligned to France if you attack Syria you attack France.

  • @linkler but you could be right just what else is “guaranteed support” supposed to mean?

  • @linkler level 3 does not mean a minor is aligned. at level 3 it is either controlled OR aligned.
If a minor controlled power is attacked then after the attack is resolved then the rest of the country aligns to the controlling major powee.

  • @theveteran ah got it. That makes sense! Thanks
