@coachdcj Player 2 is correct. From the Official Rules Clarifications document (page 4):
You can never give an ally anything: units, territories or I.P.C.'s.
Hi, I created a strategy that I have called “The pipeline through the Middle East”. It can only be played following the Russia Restricted rule. Which means Russia cannot attack on the first turn, but they can still buy, do non combat movement, and place units. If you follow this strategy the Axis will create a pipeline through the Middle East, using an IC in Egypt and one in India. In some cases it is advisable that you do not follow this strategy to strictly, be a little adaptive to your opponents.
Post your thoughts, suggestions or comments on this strategy. I will be happy to read them.
By the way is this a great forum or what?
Germany Turn 1 (G1):
Buy: 1 Transport, 8 Infantry
Attacks:
Non-Combat:
Deploying bought units:
Japan Turn 1 (J1):
Buy: 2 Transports, 3 Infantry
Attacks:
Non-Combat:
Deploying bought units:
Total Germany IPC: +/- 38
Total Japan IPC: +/- 30
A total of plus 11 IPC.
Germany Turn 2 (G2):
Buy: 1 IC, 5 Infantry
Attacks:
Non-Combat:
Deploying bought units:
Japan Turn 2 (J2):
Buy: 3 Tanks, 5 Infantry
Attacks:
Non-Combat:
Deploying bought units:
Total Germany IPC: +/- 44
Total Japan IPC: +/- 36
A total of plus 23 IPC.
4 IPC from Magic 84.
Next rounds:
Germany:
Russia has now two remaining options:
Threaten Russia by conquering Kazakhstan try to accomplish this by using the base in Egypt, keep reinforcing this base by two tanks every turn.
By now the Americans and British will have a powerful fleet ready in the North Sea. This of course becomes a dangerous situation for Germany. But this fleet can pretty much be destroyed by attacking with all your Fighters and Bomber, after the attack begin to use Western Europe as a airbase.
Because there remains a possibility that American or British troops will invade Western Europe try to move each turn 2 Infantry to Western Europe.
Japan:
Your first objective is to put pressure on Moscow the easiest way to do this is by conquering Novosbirsk. Use for this the 7 Infantry from Sinkiang, 3 Tanks and 3 Fighters from India.
Another important thing is that you begin to make America nervous do this by invading Alaska. Use the Transports that are in the region and the Infantry from Japan.
A few rounds further Magic 84 will be reached and the Axis will win.
yeah the attack on karelia is pure suicide.
Russia has a weak southern part your right about that. But i dont think its really wise to build an ic in egypt. It will help secure africa and maybe southern asia as well but imo you can save some IPC’s by building an additional transport ship in southern europe as well. Southern europe is close to the middle east so troops can be sent to the middle east quite easily.
However the pressure that the axis can produce in southern russia for the first few turns can easily be countered by few russian infantry. It will only become really vulnerable if you do it later on when the japs have captured sinkiang and russia needing every piece of infantry to defend karelia and moscow.
Aside from painting a particularly rosy picture for the Axis, I noticed a couple of errors. You are attacking Karelia with 5 tanks in round 1, but in round 2 you attempt to attack the Caucasus with 7 tanks from Karelia. I also noticed that you used your infantry in Kwantung and Manchuria twice in the first round (against both India and China). Just thought I should point it out.
If you’re looking for a pipeline to Middle East, I would instead focus on operations in the Southern Fronts (Middle East, Med, N Africa) instead of a hail mary in Karelia. Germany can ill afford to split up its forces like that. Your strategy calls no need for it. I would much rather use my ftrs and bmbs to support the invasion of this pipeline rather then risk them to AA fire - something I have never been lucky on :o
In reaction to the errors discovered by bossk. If you count right you will have to come to the conclusion that there are 7 Tanks. About the use of the Infantry twice, that is true. My fault, therefore beneath the right attack:
Japan Turn 1 (J1):
Attacks:
Also I want to say that I have changed my mind about the attack by Germany Turn 1 (G1) on Karelia. I think it is better to use the following strategy:
Germany Turn 1 (G1):
Buy: 2 Transport, 5 Infantry
Attacks:
Non-Combat:
Deploying bought units:
Also my opinion about the IC in Egypt has changed, as greensleeves_16 already stated use Transports. Transport each time three Tanks to Syria-Iraq and try to build up a Tank force there, threatening Russia from the weaker south. If you want to do this you have to occasionally buy 1 Tank to reinforce the Tank force located in Southern Europe. The rest of the coming rounds I advice you to mainly buy Infantry. Move the main force of the bought units to Eastern Europe but do not forget to reinforce Western Europe. I suggest about 2 Infantry each time. So that you can build up a defensive force that is strong enough to with hold an English or American invasion. This is also the case for Eastern Europe (Russian invasion). By now you will probably think has he also changed his mind about the strategy to use for Japan. No, I still think it is the best tactic to use in this case.
But anyway give me your thoughts, suggestions or comments on this new strategy. I will be happy to read them.
