  • ^ and THAT’S why I don’t complain about the dice! At least that was still a 75% battle with the 3 scramblers and not a total suck-out.

    The worst: I felt badly when one of my opponents attacked a small Italian stack in Belarus (that I put there hoping he’d attack it and I could kill 3-4 infantry on the attack plus another 2-3 on the counter). Hit triple friggin 1’s on the AA and took out the entire Russian airforce. Minus their air support, the attacking infantry were slaughtered. Moscow fell three turns later.

    Italy attacked SZ97 with everything it could, my sub hit so that had to be taken on your carrier.  My other units scored 2 hits, so I need OOL.


  • Might as well splash the 2 fighters. If I sink the carrier, you can just retreat and splash the second fighter anyway. As long as we’re going down, might as well get another roll @2 in the next round…


  • The flipside, of course, is that if you don’t want to risk your air, then don’t attack aa guns with them. Attack that stack with something that will make itself vulnerable to a counter-attack… It’s all give and take - measuring what is likely and what is an acceptable loss.

    In another game, I tried to strafe an Italian artillery pile with 5 Anzac fighters so I wouldn’t have to commit as many Soviet troops to retake the Ukraine IC. Missed all 5. And got 3 shot down for my trouble. As soon as I saw a 5 and four 6’s come up, I was like “yeah, this is way better than throwing an extra 6 IPC of infantry at the problem, dummy.” And I got what I deserved…  :-D I was ok with a loss of 1 or 2 taking out 2 or 3 artillery; I was not ok with losing 3 as a lesson, but I should have known that was a possibility.
