What French units have you purchase? and why?

I am looking for stuff like:
-purchased an AA gun for France (or Fic) for the large air units about to take it back.
-bought an art for can opener move.
-bought a tank for FIC to blitz empty China territories.

This game can take many twist and turns (pun intended) that French builds in late game can be anything.

(NOTE: this thread is not about what you did with the starting French units. This is about AFTER France is liberated, gets IPCs, THEN has a turn WITH $ to buy stuff. If you have not progressed that far in a game, please just read and do not clutter the thread.)

If the US could build even airbases and naval bases on Allied territories, that would change the game significantly. For example, if USSR takes Norway, building an airbase there connects planes in a single turn to Moscow. Similar with an airbase on Transjordan.

I agree with Zhukov44. A lot depends on what the Axis does.
If the US decides to go JF, I will go with 2 carriers, 1 battleship all placed in SZ 10. What’s more, I have the US fighter in Philippines fly it’s way back to land on the carriers when they are moved to SZ 26. By round 3, the US should have 3 full carriers, 2 battleships and a number of smaller warships along with 3 loaded transports all staged either by Hawaii or Queensland.

If the US decides to go GF, my US buys tend to alternate between bombers and ships.

Seems very interesting Black_Elk.
It simplifies many things while allowing a lot of way to chose or not to repair and use a given Factory.
Less NO and more VC bonus seems to focus on the real objective of the game.
Nice.
Hope you can somehow add it inside the main thread on Halifax rules, maybe as a third options, or a sub-option of the second option.

I have a few problems with all of this as follows…

1. As pointed out the Uk has no reason to declare on Japan…the USA player would kill the brit player if they did that. This would be a case of the allied players not talking to each other. In which case they are going to lose anyway.

2. The USA player can’t be so stupid as to disreguard threats near them, you can’t suprise them really. Again if the USA player is that stupid you don’t need weird tactics to beat them, you can beat them straight up through tactics.

1: You no longer need UK to declare war on Japan. See reply number 32 for explanation. Japan is free to fly over UK territories while neutral. This does not cause a declaration of war, per Krieghund.

2: You no longer need to surprise the US. In fact, it appears that keeping US neutral 3 turns prohibits them from being able to stop this air force move.

Finally, the only player able to stop/impact this, is USSR. They need to shove 12 units to Siberia turn 1, to threaten a take back of Soviet far East. Japan should lose 2 air units and 2 ground units destroying this force on J2. This is not likely, as Japan hasn’t started the game yet, so they would have to “guess” that Japan is going this route and expose a large portion of their starting Eastern forces to a Japanese invasion.

This post is regarding moving the starting Japanese air force to German occupied Alberta. It is not an argument for just America first. It is a discussion for how to always be able to get the air force to the Atlantic. America first may have a lot of problems yet to be resolved. This is one less problem.

Look at rule book page 20. If you made a combat move into the tt(territory) and won, it is yours. If it was French to start with, then there was no combat move into the tt, and is still French. Liberate France if you want to collect income from it. The dutch are not a power, and are a different deal.
