    • Hello everyone!

Hello fellow members of this community.

My name is Sergio Gonzalez and I live in Spain. I briefly lived in Canada for two years where I got into the Axis and Allies gaming.

I generally play G40 and not as often as I would like to. It is quite difficult to find commited players or even the time to play, but it is what it is.

I am working on printing one of the community files maps in vynil and a mixture of PVC and aluminium, hopefully I get that done soon and I can invite some friends over to get them into the game.

This latter part is proven to be difficult with the actual situation, but hopefully in the future I can spread a good disease…the disease of playing Axis and Allies as much as possible!!

    • Germany strategy question

      Hi guys,

I have been reading a lot and watching videos on Germany strategy, so the opening options for me are very clear.

However, how do you decide between Sea Lion and Barbarossa? What do you see in the game that makes you go one way or the other?

I am currently playing a game and I honestly cannot decide what to do in my turn 2.

In my opener I took care of the whole British fleet and barely got hit, so I have all my ships left except one sub.

England stacked up on infantry and currently have 11 infantry plus the french and all the planes from the set up (did not scrambled once).

On the other hand Leningrad has only 8 infantry on it, but it would take me two turns to reach there (however being a minor industrial complex all the Russian player can do is put 3 more in there).

I also have all my planes available and in reach of London (total of 10 planes) and 3 transports. The only doubt I have is that I only have two artillery to bring in the transports (i moved most of it towards the Russian front).

I think I would have better options for Sea Lion if I go for it this turn, but, not having a lot of experience playing yet, I would like to know what you guys think.

      Cheers!

Welcome!! I hear you when you say you will be mostly playing alone…my friends and wife do not have the patience either.

Do not worry about the rules, once you get a grasp of them it will become second nature, although you can have many doubts at the beginning.

If I can be of any help with any doubts you have, please let me know, I will be glad to help.

      Cheers

      Sergio

    • RE: Submarine Movement and Customized Map

@gen-manstein thanks for the update. I think it makes sense.

I see that there are a lot of house rules out there that really bring new life to the game, love it.

    • RE: Submarine Movement and Customized Map

@gen-manstein it looks amazing. What measurements does the map have?

I have printed on vynil Ambizi´s version but it only slightly bigger than using the game boards. It has all the air and naval bases printed on, but still, lacks of space in certain areas, so I was considering printing another map with a bigger size.

I got a quotation for a 2,75 meters x 1,25 meters at 300 euros. I don´t see where I could put that or how I would get my wife’s approval for such transaction…

    • RE: Germany strategy question

@barnee thanks man, really appreciate it.

Just to let you know that your idea worked as a charm. All the British fleet in the Mediterranean is gone (lost two fighers on the process though).

I also brought the battleship and a sub from SZ110 into the Gibraltar strait where the French navy was hiding. I believe that is a legal move since I control Normandy and it has a naval base.

Purchased tanks, artillery and another transport and now the Russian know what´s coming to them next turn!

      Cheers

    • RE: Grasshopper’s Dice & Cards (A&A Gaming Accessories)

      Hey,

      I used this link :
      https://www.drivethrucards.com/product/249207/Young-Grasshoppers-G40-Utah-Deck

I also got the Omaha deck. The shipping itself was like twice the price of the cards (I am in Spain).

I wrote to driverthroughcards and they told me that they were sorry, but I have to wait 45 days to consider the parcel lost, and only then would they be able to send me a replacement order. By then I might just ask for a refund and then get them in this new website, although they are significantly more expensive here.

Thanks by the way for the link.

I had a G40 game set up ready for when the cards came…but I had to play it anways, I cannot wait that long LOL.

      Cheers mate

@young-grasshopper it did not arrived yet. According to the Us Postal service link is still in the States since January 28th. I guess I will write to drivethroughcards, seems a bit long to be still there.

When I get it I will let you know!

      Cheers!

    • RE: Why would you attack on J2

I think J1 brings US to the war too early. I reckon it could be the most effective move in terms of the IPCs you can make your enemies lose in one single turn, and you can easily make up for the 10 IPCs that you will loose for being neutral with the US, but in all the games I played (not a lot yet), US war machine gets rolling and ends up making the Japanese player pay.

J2 lets you position yourself better on the board, as long as you have a clear strategy of what you want to do (go all in for Calcutta, or spread out to get Sydney later on, whatever floats your boat). The problem sometimes is the lack of that clear strategy, I tended to get dispersed and pick a little bit from here, a little bit from there and then get burned.

J3 will make it very difficult for you, because the Allies can stack up forces in Calcutta. In my personal opinion it should be either J1 or J2, max.

@marshmallow-of-war Nice! Sometimes unexpected things develop in this game. Good for the French! They deserve some credit, every once in a while.

    • RE: Germany strategy question

@marshmallow-of-war the battleship was repaired as you mention. However the lucky French navy got two hits on two dice, so I lost a sub and the battleship was hit again.

The other two units I had involved there were two bombers and I did not want to lose any of them.

    • RE: Germany strategy question

@marshmallow-of-war I though so, but thanks for clarifying that.

The only thing is that the German battleship is now damaged and exposed, but I rarely have it after one or two turns anyways…
