Anniversary Zombies
I was thinking about using the zombie rules with this game. Anyone try it already?

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FFA
Maybe just giving the Italians and Ottomans a larger starting army would help. Maybe a larger navy to help too.
I don’t think anyone would be looking to bother the USA with being so far away. They would be a nice ally for anyone though. I would think that the USA would be very inclined to take out Canada though… -
Axis and Allies 1914 FFA
Did anyone think about making this a free for all game? Kind of like Diplomacy but with cooler units and better battle system. I just got the idea. What kind of modifications do you think would have to be made in order for it to work?

RE: Color of the Pieces is Horrible
I have no problem telling apart the pieces, colors, or anything like that. The one problem that I do encounter is the light and dark chips. In poor light, it is very difficult to tell them apart. I am just going to use the old chips from the other versions of axis and allies. white means 1, red 5, etc

RE: Report from BJCard's Table
My first game was almost exactly like your game. I had the CPs all focus on the Russians for the first 4 turns with the bulk of their troops. I didn’t buy any naval units, but I did wipe out all the UK naval units in the Atlantic with the German navy with ease. It forced them to build lots of ships for the next 2 turns without having to buy any new ones myself. I encountered the same exact problems that you did with the CPs when going after France and Italy. I got to the doorsteps of Rome and failed to take it due to the USA coming in strong to defend it. It was all downhill from there.
The second game, I tried a slightly different strategy. This yielded a victory for the CPs. I had the Germans and Ottomans go all out of the Russians again, but only had the starting units on the board go to the Russians for the AH. All their reinforcements went after Italy. It allowed me to knock out Russia and Italy. The USA was not strong enough that time to save the poor Italians. The AH had knocked the Italians down to like 4-6 IPCs with great ease. With the AH going after southern France to aid Germany in their pursuit of Paris, the allies surrendered. I did not build any naval units for the CPs until near the end of the game. That is when I started getting an Ottoman navy to go after Africa

RE: Ottomans
The Allies don’t really have the ability to mount an amphibious attack upon Constantinople early in the war. The Italians are too weak. The UK are too busy in the Indian Ocean. The French are too busy with the Germans. The only country that really can do it is the USA. When they first enter the war, they come across with about 12 units in 6 transports and a few warships. If they were to invade, at least 1 transport would be lost due to naval mines. That alone was enough to deter everyone to even try it. Every turn, the Ottomans typicalls bought 1 artillery. When the USA was within striking distance, the Ottomans purchased 2 that turn, plus kept 1 from the previous turn. Having 3 artillery that can have a preemptive strike upon invading forces, along with the naval mines, makes it very difficult for anyone to invade successfully.

RE: How is it?
I liked the game a lot. I only played two full games so far, but they were both a lot of fun. The Allies won 1 game and the CPs won the other. Both games lasted until round 10 when it was just decided to call them because they were leaning heavily in 1 direction. No games are perfect, but this is a really great game. I think it is very balanced too. I plan to play this game many more times over the coming years.
The biggest problem that I encountered was the lack of playing pieces. I was constantly low on German infantry, German artillery, UK infantry, UK transports, US transports, and both sets of colored chips. Fortunately, I have like a thousand other games and just used the other games’ pieces to fill the void. That is not Larry’s fault. The fault lies with WoTC. They are too cheap to throw in more playing pieces.
I consider this game to be more like the original axis and allies from the 80s. It has fewer types of playing pieces. It is more simple. I would like to see a more advanced version of this game in the future, just like how they came out with the more advanced versions of the ww2 axis and allies games. I am willing to bet that if this game sells well, we will see another version of it. If there is a new version, it will probably take into account many of the house rules that others have proposed.

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
Hello everyone,
I just got the game delivered last night to my home. I set the whole game up and read the rules twice. The rulebook states that tanks can absorb a free hit when attacking. Does it repair automatically?
Thanks

New Jersey players
Hello fellow wargamers,
I live in Toms River, NJ and get a few guys together once in the while for a wargame. We are looking for more players since some ppl moved away.
I enjoy axis and allies land minis along with axis and allies board games. Currently playing global 40 and I just bought 1914. My group age range is mostly 20s and 30s. My dad also plays and has a group in his age range of 50s-60s as well.I have a huge collection of minis and all the board games, so ppl interested dont need to own anything.
Thanks,
John

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
This is a lot to look through. Is there a comprehensive list that explicitly goes over all these FAQ? Ideally so that I can just print it out to bring with me to my next wargame this weekend.

RE: Who wants to write a review?
Wow they are getting so expensive. Only 3 planes per booster? Even less boosters per case? I know there is inflation, but this is rediculous!
-
RE: Who wants to write a review?
Did they do the common/uncommon/rare thing again like in the other minis?
How many planes per booster?
How many boosters per case?
Thank you

Ship combat move question
I was playing with a couple people this weekend and came to this move and had a discussion about it. Please tell me if this move is legal or not.
The American Fleet is at the Caroline islands, seazone 33. The Japanese place 1 destroyer in sz 46 and 1 destroyer in sz 34 as blockers. The Japanese have a fleet in the Java sz and control the island of Java.
The American player used his planes from the aircraft carriers based in the sz 33 to attack the Japanese Fleet in the Java sz, assuming that the USA fleet can kill off the 2 blockers and move the carriers to seazone 45 to give the planes a place to land. If the blockers were not destroyed, there would be no place to land. Is this move allowed?
Secondly, after the attack went though, all the planes were destroyed, would the carriers be forced to move to seazone 45 regardless of whether the planes survived or not?

Transport Question
My group came into the following question this weekend:
The German Navy, which consisted of a Battleship, Cruiser, Carrier, 3 transports, destroyers and subs, was positioned in SZ 109.(Left of England)
The GB had 2 cruisers in SZ 110 (English Channel).
Can the German navy move into Seazone 110 and pick up troops from Normandy and amphibiously invade England? -
RE: Silly question
It is a separate game completely. Each unit is a completely different mold and has its own stats on a special card. It is played on a hex map and each player has an objective, whether to take a city, mountain or something. Or, just to destroy the enemy. What I like most though, is the fact that each unit looks different and they come painted.
Look at the official website of avalon hill and click on the miniatures to see more details.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
That is what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure with this new split economy for the UK. I suppose it would be true the other way around as well. Meaning Japan controls the Indian Complex. The UK Europe power could not get the IPCs from the Pacific Map UK territories. It would have to go there and actually take the territories.
