For starters just take a fine brush and apply a little wash in the bottom of any recessed areas to create the shadow effect. This is called “pin washing” and it is very effective at getting those details to pop out. You can make your own wash by taking a dark color paint and diluting it about 50/50.

@sjelso Looks like some inkwash and a quick drybrush will bring out those details.

RE: Axis and allies minatures, where and how to get
@eddiem4145
The planes you bought are for the Air Force game and are a bit large for the 2" and 3" hex maps but can still used. You will find the official Land game cards for these planes in the Database that djensen gave you. (http://www.aamcardbase.com/search_AAM.aspx)If you are looking for miniatures ebay is a good source and Miniature market also. I sell land miniatures in lots and if you would like a list of available lots you can find them here: https://forumini.boards.net/thread/1667/obers-aam-lots
Rulebooks can still be downloaded here: http://web.archive.org/web/20150906011831/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/updates

RE: New Forum Software Update
It sounds like a daunting task you have ahead of you. Good luck, I hope to see you on the flip side. :lol:

RE: How to harden plastic or coat?
Its the type of plastic they used in the last few sets. It seems to have a high oil content making paints ineffective over the long term. The best solution is to clear coat them with Testors Dull Coat and paint over it but eventually, the oil will make its way through

RE: Miniatures
If you purchase a case of 12 you will not get a full set, you will get about half. Their cases are prepacked with the same miniatures in 2 different cases. So you would require 2 cases to get a full set of rares, however, there is no way of telling which cases you are purchasing as they are not marked.

RE: A&A expanded rules?
Its a great ruleset and some pretty nice miniatures. It ran for 7 years and went through 10 expansions before going out of production. There is still lots of the AAM stuff on eBay and etc
As you can see nobody here is interested discussing the miniature game. Join this forum and find out anything you want to know about the miniatures game https://forumini.boards.net/
We also have a really cool Army Builder and search engine for the game here, http://www.aamcardbase.com/search_AAM.aspx

RE: Does anyone play this still?
They are still a few of us left. Many have moved on to other games but there are still a few hardcore players that post over on the https://forumini.boards.net/
If you are lucky you might find a group in your area. -
RE: Unit stats
@Autumn:
I assume so, but All of these cards are the official stats (none of them have been changed by players, all done by Wizards)?
100% official and sanctioned by WotC.

RE: Unit stats
At the mid point of production Wizards of the Coast revised the cards for sets 1 to 5. Many were reduced in cost and were modified to make them more playable. You will find all the official revised cards here, http://www.aamcardbase.com/search_AAM.aspx These cards are searchable and printable, there is also a handy army builder available by clicking the tank icon.

RE: AAM Database released
There is no way to download it. What features would you like to request?

RE: French Resistance Campaign
Thanks for the answer! :-)
The maps in the scenario are:
Map 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 16
I cant figure out what they are!! :?

I honestly don’t know his map scheme. I knew AARules from the forums but he hasn’t been around in a couple of years. He mentions map 16 had shell holes which makes me think he is referring to the larger 3" hex maps. The larger maps had numbers in the lower right hand corners. They were, starter set maps, North africa maps and eastern front maps. Sorry I couldn’t help more.
