Have fun with FoW. I hope you have more fun than I did. IMO its way over the top for rules that try to simulate real combat making it way more complex than it needs to be. But the up side is you can use most of the vehicles and artillery to play Axis and Allies miniatures later.

      Cheers

    • RE: What is the difference between the board game and the miniatures?

      @Azrael:

if you have 8+hours to burn per game played and like generic plastic both in appearance and stat pieces then the boardgame is for you.  If you like endless variety fighting famous battles like kursk, stalingrad, midway, battle of the denmark strait (or anything you want) etc then the minis are for you, if you have an actual appreciation for the units you will have alot of fun trying out tiger tanks, panzers, wehrmacht infantry, super bb’s like yamato and Iowa, famous aircraft like the fw 190’s , helldivers, swordfish etc etc etc.  If moving generic plastic pieces over enemy territory against generic plastic pieces then rolling dice to determine who wins is more your thing then you probably won’t enjoy the minis as much as the boardgame.

While this site is #1 for the boardgame its maybe 4th or 5th for the mini’s (Forumini, seas ablaze/axis and allies underground, wotc site , here or boardgame geek) if you get into the mini’s check out the forumini as well it is the mecca of the miniature games line and has the most traffic of any axis and allies site.

Alot of miniature players come from the boardgames saying they were cool when you were younger and had 8+hours to burn on a weekend but now that you have grown up and have things to do commiting an hour or so for a miniatures game is a much better route to go.  The boardgames some people find are fun a couple times a year but if its something you want to play every weekend you won’t get tired of the mini’s .

      Well said.

If you really want to know why the miniatures games are so fun and historical take a look at these two cards databases and see the wide variety of units that are ready to play. You can play by battle, theater and most importantly by year. So you can play a 1941 North Africa match using desert hex maps and historical weapons unique to the time period. Were not limited to a certain year or theater, its wide open. Pretty much every nation that fought in the war is included in the miniatures games. Basically any battle, campaign or skirmish can easily be scenarioed into a game.

    • RE: Firefox problems as of a few days ago

…and you haven’t even mentioned the activeX controls being crap. Updates can be months getting onto your computer from IE.

Try Firefox for a month and I guarantee you will have a smoother month on the net with less problems and reloads. Seriously, try it!

I use firefox and mine is fine. Something is either out of date or blocking the missing icons. FYI Internet Explorer is NOT a real browser in most circles so get firefox fixed and stay with it.

    • RE: What is the difference between the board game and the miniatures?

The land side of axis and allies miniature uses 15mm miniature versions of many WWII vehicles and soldiers to play a turn based game on a hex map. Its a lot different than the board game in that its tactical experience is much richer because of the variety of available units and maps. Typically players build armies based on a certain points cost and year restrictions and play head to head. There are Armor, vehicles, artillery, aircraft, Commanders & soldiers to choose from when creating armies. Skirmish results come from dice rolls where units can be disrupted, damaged or Destroyed. A 100 point match generally takes 1 - 1.5 hours to play out so the more point involved the longer the game can take. I hope that answers you questions.

    • RE: New Set

      News on Bandits High: http://richard-baker.blogspot.ca/

Soon to be Released: And, in case you’re curious what’s coming up next in my game design, keep your eyes peeled for Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Bandits High. This is set 2 for the Air Force minis game, and it includes a bunch of new models for aircraft that didn’t appear in set 1. In addition, there are some very creative uses of aircraft that flew in different air forces, so that you’ll see some familiar planes in some very unfamiliar national markings. Did you know that the Romanian air force flew Hurricanes? Or that the Finns flew Brewster Buffaloes? It’s a fascinating bit of history, or so I think. Anyway, AAAFM Set 2 should be released on or around February 19th, so get your orders in.

    • RE: Naval Markers

We use 5mm micro dice to keep track of damage, cripples and kills. Each side has either red axis damage and yellow cripple or allied blue damage and yellow cripple. For damage a red or blue dice is placed on the ship showing the number of hull points remaining. If the ship is crippled we change out to the yellow dice with the number 1 showing. Destroyed ships are listed on their sides. They are cheap and easy to use. They sit on top of the ships so there is no confusion when the grids are maxed out with damaged ships. I sold sets on ebay a few years back and they sold quite well for $5 a set with free shipping.

    • RE: 3-Inch Hex Maps

The only way to get unfolded maps is to print your own. If you download 2" maps it shouldn’t be a problem to print at 150% if you want 3".  Here are the pdf’s  http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/article/ah20051121c

    • RE: AAM Database released

Just a heads up for everyone that we hooked up a more appropriate url for the database. Right now if you use the old url (http://www.tintirinti.com/search_AAM.aspx) you will be automaticly redirected to the new url. I reccommend that you re-bookmark the new url and go from there.

By the way thanks for the overwelming support for the dbase. There were almost 9000 searches in the last 30 days. :D

If you have used acrylic paints, it can be removed. What kind of miniatures are they? Plastic, metal or resin.

    • RE: Copyright infringement?

I did some research on the subject when I released the AAM card dbase (http://www.tintirinti.com/search_AAM.aspx) almost a year ago. I found to field the card database we could not charge a fee or sell advertizing and it had to promote the game. So I would say the issue is that apps are bought rather than downloaded for free. Had it been free there would be no issue.

As Dave said, you will have to contact them and give them a piece of the action to get a licence.

    • RE: Why you should play WAS/AAM/A20

      @hkytown1:

There is still a market for them and they are selling well on eBay  someday soon however, they may be gone for good.

Thats an understatement. :-D  They are selling for crazy prices. I traded a $60 AAM UK lot for a WaS collection on an even trade and turned around and sold it on ebay for more than $300 after I culled it for pieces I needed.

    • RE: My latest Panther

again…thanks for the kind words. The Panther camo came as a surprise to me too. It started out as trying to duplicate something a had a picture of but the brush ended up doing something completely different. I could see I was off track but I continued painting the splatter and it all seemed to come together. I will eventually paint my entire mid - late war German army vehicles in this camo. Its too tedious to paint any more than 1 mini at a time with frequent breaks for eye strain on these almost 50 year old eyes. I used a 18X & 25X brush to paint the camo with vellejo Panzer Colors paints. I’m working 80 hour weeks so it could be a while before I complete it but I will post it when its finished.

Most serious spammers use IP rotators and are impossible to ban. Each and every spam attempt will appear to come from a different IP address. They have been at it for a long time and are intent on advertizing for free.

If someone wants to post an invitation for players on the axisandalliesunderground.com feel free. Its OK with me. It s not much but it will get exposure out to around 300 unique IP’s and gamers per day.

    • Medium Field Guns

I picked up 16 guns from the Underground Arsenal project and started building them this week-end. They went together beautifully and look great. They include the bases also. They should add some flavor to the gaming table and expand indirect fire capabilities. Here’s a peak at the unfinished project. The 100mm Skoda gun was available for axis minors but I didn’t pick them up.

      All the guns

      25 pounders and US 105mm

      German 105mm and Russian 122mm

Close-up of Russian 122mm in primer on base

    • RE: My latest Panther

Thanks for the kind words. I emass a lot of this stuff and a lot of it gets given away to friends but the panthers will be staying in my armies.

Heres a G that survived Kursk and went on to wear winter camo in the same splatter-camo design. The camo isn’t finished yet and it needs a good ink wash and stowage added. I’m working on 122mm Russian, 105mm US, 105mm German and 25 pounder guns this week-end so I won’t be finishing the Panther for another week or so.

The winter map I photoed the Panther on is also one of my past projects called “Ardennes Forest”.
