    • RE: Axis & Allies and Zombies is REAL

      You make fair points, but I think Larry wouldn’t think A&A is disrespectful. In fact, it seems he views it as an outlet for his deep respect of the WWII generation.

      Alternate history (like Amerika) is a finer line, I suppose. That is speculative, but ultimately serious.

      Zombies just seem to cheapen the whole experience. My opinion, of course. Perhaps it will be the most fun and engaging of all the A&A games … I just won’t find out. Interested in seeing what everyone here thinks, though…

      This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen or heard. Disrespectful to the memory of those who fought and mentally lazy game design.

      First A&A game I won’t own.

    • RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harris

      BTW, played this scenario for the first yesterday with a new group.  Only one other guy had played Global before, and I thought this was a fantastic setup to teach the game to new players.  They all had some familiarity with the franchise having played other versions, but they left super-excited to play Global again.

      Ah, understand.  For some reason I conflated the rule for capturing unfriendly neutrals and the rule about invading a strict neutral (which turns all the others friendly to the other side).  Thanks for the response!

      Question about Neutrals in this setup…

      Some of the neutrals have already been invaded by the opposite side (e.g., Greece, a pro-Allies territory, has German units in it). Does that mean the rest of the neutrals on the board are aligned with the Allies at the start of the scenario?  Or do you continue to follow the rules for neutrals until the next time one is invaded?

    • Good Deal on 1941

      AA1941 is currently $15.99 with free Prime shipping on Amazon US.  Great price to get a bunch more sculpts for the game and/or to populate your other games with the nation-specific pieces unique to the 1941 game.

      @reloader-1:

      Your “rare” cruiser is from the 1941 edition.

      Assuming you mean the entry level AA1941, there are no cruisers in that game. Unless you meant a different game?

    • RE: The Return of Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

      I had this on preorder, but I’m thinking about cancelling it since I have the original and the “new” sculpts seem to all be 1940/42SE retreads.  I am also assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that one of the old sculpts they could not reproduce was the Italian tanks?

      I suppose I’ll save the $75 and put it toward War Room.

    • RE: Anniversary edition reprint announced at Origins?

      @John:

      On amazon, it says there will be, four new sculpts in the game. That is awesome to hear. More pieces for me to paint. 😄

      I wonder if the “new” sculpts will just be 1940 pieces substituted for some of the original AAA50 pieces.  Hard to believe that these will be literally all-new sculpts for a reprint.  Happy to be wrong!

    • RE: New Star Trek TV Series 2017

      Watched the trailer - not impressed.  This looks like a fan film.

      Not to mention, if it is supposed to take place 10 years before Kirk’s mission, the Enterprise NCC-1701 should already be out there under Captain Pike.  The uniforms should look the same or similar as in ‘The Cage’.  Looks like a hot mess from a continuity standpoint.

      I have a cheap ping pong table. Huge surface for the game and folds up nicely for storage.  Cost about $200. And you can play pong pong on it too.  😉

    • RE: Global 1940 Rulebook - Indexed Edition

      @P@nther:

      @Dajokr:

      I’m considering devoting some time and energy to developing a consolidated .pdf rule book for Global 1940, which would include detailed indexing for finding and cross-referencing rules.  The idea would be to combine the pertinent parts of the two rulebooks (Pacific and Europe) with the Global rules in an easy to follow sequence.  I intend to develop a paragraph numbering system in order to build an index where you can easily find the rules which are currently tucked away in (sometimes) counter intuitive and hard-to-find places.  Before I go down that rabbit hole, I would like to gauge interest from the group, since I don’t want to expend the effort just for myself.  Anyone think this would be a good idea?

      With all respect for your plan I just want you to point to two threads where this idea has been discussed:

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=36001.0

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=38420.0

      Just to prevent you from running into possible issues…  🙂

      Thanks for pointing me at those.  I read through them.  The end state I envision is a .pdf document with content combined from both rule books (and errata) and indexed in a detailed and logical manner to enable quick lookups.  In my view, it would be a “customization” of the rule book in the same way that many other customizations are undertaken here.  I think of it as being similar to redoing or enhancing a setup chart, for example, or adding additional markings to a map.

      I think I’ll give it a whirl, and we can see how it goes.  It will probably be a few weeks before I can dedicate any real time to it.  More to follow!

    • RE: Additional Units & Markers

      The game is currently $20.99 on Amazon with Prime shipping.  I’ve seen it as low as $15.99 (that’s when I bought an extra game to supplement my pieces).  Definitely the most cost effective.

      Also, if you find you are liking the game, you may want to eventually try the next step, which is 1942 2nd Edition.  That is currently $46 on Amazon.  Kill two birds - a bunch of extra sculpts you can use in 1941 and an expanded game you can move up to when you’ve got a few games of 1941 under your belt.

      Alternately, there are occasionally eBay sellers who sell extra pieces, and you might score a good deal there.

      My Amazon order was just updated with a delivery date, so this is indeed happening.

      Seems odd and out of the blue to re-release D-Day – does this mean there are plans to get Guadalcanal and BotB back in print, too?
