Are you working on a setup for this? I’d be willing to try it out as long as it doesn’t alter the OOB map at all.

Caspian Sea
Hey, I just had a quick question: are you allowed to fly over the Caspian Sea? I’m assuming you can but not 100% sure. Thanks!

RE: What am I missing vs. America?
Has anyone tried canvassing the Atlantic with German subs early on? by the time America goes to war you should have enough ships to buy you at least one or two more turns before they can land.

RE: Anyone ever play with no luck Dice rules
Because Axis & Allies dice (and most dice) don’t have an equal possibility of rolling all numbers. Having a deck of cards would ensure each number has a completely equal chance of being ‘rolled’

RE: All these AARs; why don't you mention the French units?
One game I was able to use an ANZAC fighter and a French destroyer to kill a Japanese battleship on the Indian coast. It was pretty sweet, I lost both the fighter and the destroyer but the one-two punch was able to knock the battleship out.

RE: UK industrial complex in Egypt
I think that Italy can take Egypt if you give them enough of an incentive to do so. Leaving all your units behind there is incentive enough, so building a minor IC would only make them more likely to go for it, which they will most likely succeed in doing UNLESS you are able to wipe out the battleship fleet with your carrier/destroy/cruiser, and if that happens you won’t really need an IC there anyway.

RE: US Fleet doom move
Also, 12 IPCs is a lot for Italy to spend. It won’t have enough money until turn 2 at least, and at that point there’s more useful units they could buy. Even if you do get the bomber out, it’s going to need somewhere to land that’s defensible, which is probably going to be French North Africa.

I think those infantry are your masterpiece.

RE: 1st Global Game on the forum
It may be balanced, but I hate how the entire RN in the atlantic save the carrier(a total of 3 DD, 2 CC(plus 1 French), 2 BB, and 2 tr) can be killed on G1.
Yes but the point is the game works. Germany may be able to wipe out the British fleet but they have to take units away from other areas of the map to do so.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
@Yoper:
I was also at Gencon, and literally just got back home. The new game is fantastic, I was able to play both Global and Europe versions. I’m not sure if I saw you there, but I was the one playing as the Soviets during the liberation of Scotland.
You were there on Saturday, right in front of the HQ table? Larry and I watched that game for a while, off and on. It was interesting.
I played Global on Thursday morning around 10, and that was when it happened. I asked Larry if he had ever seen that before, and he said he hadn’t, so I was pretty proud of myself haha. I also awkwardly asked if I could take a picture with him too, which I was super pumped about.
Bennyborg,
Where where you placing the transports that you used to liberate Scotland? Up north in sz 127?Krieghund,
Sounds like Larry was into some game play. Did you get “dirty” too?Yeah, it was out of range of the German air units and it let me reach Scotland in one turn with the naval base and all.

RE: Skirmishes and Maneuver on the German/Russian front.
I’m not 100% sure about these questions, it’s probably be better to ask Krieghund

RE: Skirmishes and Maneuver on the German/Russian front.
It actually made sense for Russia to spend money on naval units, as they have a pretty big income for the first few turns and with the Royal Navy largely out of the picture, Germany’s free to keep landing guys in Leningrad if the Russians don’t draw them away somehow. Also, the Russian player had placed his fleet in such a way that it was blocking my sea route to Leningrad, so I had to kill it in order to continue my invasion, setting me back a turn.
-
RE: Skirmishes and Maneuver on the German/Russian front.
It wasn’t a sea lion fleet, it was a Karelia invasion fleet. But the UK player thought it was a Sea Lion fleet, so he just kept making stacks of infantry, which I had no complaint with haha. I had already declared war on Russia the previous turn by wiping out the fleet they had been building.

RE: Skirmishes and Maneuver on the German/Russian front.
I definitely see your point and your ideas make a lot of sense, but both times I played, at least, the Italians were able to do relatively little against the Russians, as Northern Italy is 4 moves away from Bessarabia and in order to get a substantial Italian force on the Eastern Front, you need to divert valuable troops from the Mediterranean theater. When I played as the Italians, the only time I attacked Russia was when I had made a Minor Factory in Egypt and had a large army moving through the Middle East, which Russia tried to counter but failed in doing so. The only reason I was even fighting Russia in the first place was because I had pushed all of the British units out of the Mediterranean and Middle East, and the only south of England were a few infantry near South Africa. Russia had tried to make a last ditch effort to stop my advance, but ultimately failed, and if we had had time to continue playing the Italians would have most likely have taken Stalingrad from the South, as the Germans pushed up and around.
As Germany, my plan to counter the screen was to gather a large army in the South, in conjunction with the Italians pushing through the Middle East, in an attempt to take Stalingrad, which only had a minor and was therefore hard for Russia to hold onto against the advancing forces. The Russian player had a large stack of infantry in Karelia, and so I began to build a fleet of transports to have an amphibious assault with my units produced in Germany in conjunction with my Eastern Front forces (but unfortunately the Russian and English players decided to do a one-two punch air strike which sacrificed their planes but managed to destroy my 7 transports and other ships). I made a feint assault on the Baltic states, which he responded to with a counterattack by about half the forces he had in Karelia. While I took heavy losses, I was able to take it back with relatively minor casualties through landing newly produced units from Germany and my still powerful air force.
With the whole maneuverability aspect, as the Russian player I made sure to build large amounts of Tanks, Planes, and Mechs so that the situation you described can be avoided. The large amount of infantry I started with, I placed evenly behind the three screening territories, and I situated the Mechanized and Air Forces in positions where they could be sent to any front that needed them, and made sure I had enough blocking infantry so that I would have enough time to deal with one threat at a time.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
Bennygoyg,
Can you verify that Emperor_Taiki’s Global National Objectives are accurate? were there any that were forgotten? I expected to see more than one USA NO, and also remember Larry mentioning a soviet NO that discouraged Allied troops in the Soviet Union. Any clarifications you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, they were all correct. With the Soviet being at war one, they also have to have control of both Seazone 125 and Archangel in order to get it. When you just play Europe, there are a few more bonuses for each country, but I can’t remember them exactly.@Dany:
I can’t immagine that a viable Soviet strategy would be to have one infantry in your border territories, with your main forces waiting to counter-attack. What if the Soviet player did this, and then the german player decided to only attack with 2 infantry and a bunch of aircraft. You would ony have 1 maybe 2 infantry to counter attack for yourself
Then the Russian attacks with just 2 inf and air. I would think that that would be a good trade for the Russian as their income is intact.
Yeah, having one Russian inf in each border territory completely nullifies the German Airforce and lets you gain a significant advantage against the Germans, as if they launch a full scale invasion you can easily push them back.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
Hmmm. That’s odd. I believe there were Soviet units in Scotland during the game we were observing on Saturday, as well. Perhaps you’ve started a trend…
A trend was started, I must of watched bennyboys scotland attack on thursday and then I repeated it on Saturday. I was the kid with the mohawk and glasses.
A Soviet navy and Soviet troops in England seems like a good idea until its turn four and the german army is poised to take Leningrad .
See though I had placed only one infantry in each border territory, so when he did finally attack, I lost only one infantry and then counterattacked with my huge armies and aircraft that were now in range. It completely took the German aircraft out of the question, and was the main reason we had to call the game a draw by the end. I was able to continue reinforcing Scotland, and also beat the Germans on the Eastern front, all while America was starting to bring reinforcements in. The Germans had to divide their income between holding on to England and reinforcing the Eastern Front, which was quickly collapsing.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
I feel by the posts and the information that was released about aae40 and aap40 that aag40 may be the best game ever.
One question, the italian fleet is in this game more powerful than the british fleet, but was not all the way around in 1940?
I had the idea that the british fleet was by far the mos powerful.
U.K vs. Italy
6 destroyers 1 destroyer
5 cruisers 2 cruisers
5 transports 2 transports
3 battleships 1 battleships
1 AC w/ tac bomber 0 AC…granted most of the U.K. fleet will be sunk on G1, but I also bet about 1/2 the Italian fleet will be sunk on UK1. Brits are definitely more scattered with diverse objectives, while the Italians are concentrated with a singular objective.
Both times I played, at least, the British were in no position to assault the Italian Navy, and tried to consolidate the remnants of their navy around England, as they only start off with a few land units to defend London.

RE: AAG1940 at Gencon so far
Yeah, making Soviet Transports/Ships is becoming a viable strategy as there’s only so much you can do with your massive stacks of infantry waiting to counterattack the Germans.
