It’s an attractive game board though. I’ve seen some of the original AA boards and they were hideous. I think it serves the purpose of getting people into the series well. We’ve added D-Day to the game list. The games get very heated and the players are very competitive, this last game was sort of a buzz kill because it was over in only 3 rounds and seemed too easy, I was convinced we must have been doing a lot of things wrong, and I think I’ve realized all of those things now. =)
Simplify Rules

I know this subject may have being covered before, but having just bought the game the rules book looks very daunting and to be honest a bit over my head. So could anybody please simplify the rules.

Purchase Units, Combat Movement, Combat, Non-Combat Movement, Place Units, Collect $$$, Next Player :)
There’s no way that I know to simplify them - either learn the rules or sell your game on ebay :)

Welcome, Marcvs!
There is an on-line demo of the Revised version of A&A (2004) on the Avalon Hill website. This is an older version of the game, and a few rules have changed (some of them in a big way), but the general flow of the game is the same. If you watch it, it may give you a framework to hang the rules on and help you to understand them better.
