Retreating question

I employ the attack and retreat method with russia in AAE, and sometimes I have unexpectadly won the battle on the first turn. Can I still retreat and just leave the territory in Germany’s hands or do I have to stay in that territory.

If you destroy all of the defenders, you can’t retreat. You can only retreat if there’s something to retreat from.

Dang, there has been numerous times I go into a conflict only wanting to do a little damage and retreat out to save my tanks, because I don’t want them vulnerable in a newly acquired territory. Thanks for the answer.
