Thanks. I’m sure I knew that at one point but somewhere along the way I forgot it and never even thought to look it up.

RE: 2 interesting questions
Have I been playing this wrong? I thought China was restricted to Chinese TT. I did not know they could move into Burma even if Uk was at war with Japan.

RE: Game Balance question
I agree with the thinking here that we should stick to OOB rules for at least a little longer. I don’t mind a few official changes here and there. I always use the errata and FAQ’s that are released after a game comes out due to misprints in the manual or an obvious balance problem (AAP). However, these sweeping changes are too much too fast. Its almost like a few influencial people screamed too early and no one else was able to say, “lets slow down and take a more methodical approach to the changes.”
It seems like we are being caught up in a rushing river and can’t get out. Alpha is evidence that the squeaky wheel gets greased.I will stick to OOB rules until something official comes out and then evaluate it. If there are a few reasonable changes I will use them, but if it is anything like these Alpha changes, I most likely won’t. I never used LHTR for the same reason.

RE: Brand New Alpha+.2
Nice job on the charts questioneer. ~~Two things I noticed as missing on your setup cards is the Ukraine gets 3 inf and a minor IC, and Kiangsi gets 3 inf and 1 art.~~Keep up the good work.
Oops, posted in the wrong thread…

RE: Global Gaming Table
This is awesome and I am now envisioning my own table when I can afford to buy the material.
One suggestion is similar to what IL said and that is to paint the bottom. Make it smooth and easy to clean and maybe even waterproof so that spills won’t soak into the wood. Also, when you set up a game you can put some stand-offs under the game board. These will raise it up, and with the plexiglass on top, the boards should be completely protected from the occasional disaster.
I speak from personal experience. A comment was made during a game that caused a fountain of Root Beer to spray from a friends mouth evenly across the dining room. Fortunatley he managed to turn away from the game and I didn’t have to unfriend him. Since then I have wrapped my older boards in clear contact paper.

RE: New Major Complex pieces!
Or use the city pieces from Fortress America.

RE: Why is the nazi logo it's self ever shown.
Banning things like this is one way governments try to erase something from history because of its evil connotations. For example, pharoh’s and kings would erase the name of a previous deposed ruler. In ancient Babylon one particular king had his name engraved on every stone that was used to build his palace and the wall around the city to prevent his name from being totally erased. In the USA it is still illeagle to engrave Benedict Arnold’s name into stone or brass. There is a monument to him in New York where he defeated the British at Fort Saratoga (before he became a traitor), but his name is not on it.
There is nothing new under the sun. Governments who want a bad piece of history to disappear will put a ban on it. In the case of Germany and others, they also build mueseums so people won repeat the atrocities but will forget the symbol of power for that era.
You might laugh at this concept being that we are discussing it and it is not forgoten, but this is very recent history. In several hundred years it will have vanished completely.

RE: New Player to the Game!
Welcome to the game! Now you can develope a twitch like the rest of us whenever we see a die roll of 6. :-D And you can spend countless hours playing and even more hours thinking about how to play, and loosing sleep with everyone here at this forum. Starting to play this game is a decision that will affect your relationships and your budget. But don’t worry, it is all worth it!!!
20 years from now you (like us now) will be saying, “When is the next one coming out?”
Have fun!

RE: Bad news
AHH, the good old days of learning…I remember when playing classic, that I thought it was a good idea to bomb stacks of infantry with a few bombers. That will learn ya.
Sorry, back to the topic :-D

RE: Flight Across Sahara
My guess as to why the sahara is impassible is to reflect the North African combat theater. In other words, it more or less forces a fight in North Africa before the rest of Africa can be fought over. It is important to control North Africa as a staging point to launch into Africa. It would be unrealistic for aircraft to fly from Europe, across the med, over North Africa and the Sahara, then conduct combat and return to Europe. If you control North Africa, particularly Egypt, then the Sahara becomes les of a factor.
Another reason it might be impassable is that it wasn’t possible for aircraft to fly across the desert from a base in N.A. to conduct combat and return, which is what a player would do. (the hump through the Himalyas was a one way trip).
Just my thoughts on it. I liked the change from the third edition.

RE: Sea zone numbers
Naval battles are always stymied by the super stack strategy.
Yeah, I know, but in the last Europe game I was able to get Germans wolf packs out in time to prevent the Allies from getting a stack of ships. At least there will be room to spread out the subs.

RE: Sea zone numbers
127 :-) This is really starting to sound good. Naval battles in the Atlantic are going to take on a new flavor. The Navy’s will be able to maneuver.
Unleash the Wolfpacks!

Sea zone numbers
Does anyone know how the sea zones will be numbered in AAE40? Are they going to start where Pacific left off or are we going to have duplicate numbers?
I ask this only because it seems obvious that we should not have duplicate numbers and hopefully the chimps will not make another “misprint.” However, it will feel strange to say “I am attacking france with my invasion fleet from sea zone 125.” It’s like some just flipped the whole world over.
On the other hand, we did play 2nd edition with no numbers at all… :?

RE: New Battle Strip
Altough, some of the bombers took a little beating in the mail, it is nice to have them.
so how much is a little beating?
#479
In each bag there is 1 bomber with bent wings. But there are six in each bag, so I am happy.
