From a CP perspective, you wanna hit the Russian superstack with germany first as you can then reinforce with AH. Going AH first, will most likely end up with huge loses for AH.

    • RE: Alternative Winning Strategy and Tactics for Central Powers

I have a hard time understanding how this would work? In AH1, AH would send the fleet into sz17 and buy 1 BS right?
If the allies arent totally bad they would:
R1 - Attack sz20 with 2 cruisers from sz21 (lets assume they atleast get 1 of the ottoman cruisers)
F1 - Reinforce/Attack sz17 with 1BS and 1 Cruisers from sz16. F would surely destroy the remaining AH if there are any.
      B1 - Reinforce sz17 with 1 Cruiser

So with this in mind the Ottomans cant do anything with their navy(1 or zero cruisers), since the allies would have 1 BS+2 cruisers in sz17.
AH cant do crap in round 2 either with their 1 BS and buying 1 more would be a bigger waste, since in the british round 2, they would send in 1BS and 1Cruiser that started the game in sz29.

In my opinion all AH have done is wasting 12IPC on a BS that was really needed for ground forces.

Yeah… but as I showed you france will have an even bigger defence… Even with full plane buy, 12 planes tops can reach Paris, you are only really buying 2 additional kills (well 5 total if you include the ones from getting air-s).

The entire German stack will be gone by France counterattack!

    • RE: Anyone tried buying all fighters with germany and taking Paris round 5?

Well UK can use everything he buys round 1-3 to reinforce Paris by G5. Assuming the entire France Navy is used for protection as well, UK only need to buy Naval protection in Round 1 and than free to use its appr. 60 IPC (round 2+3) to buy 10 transports -> 20 more units in Paris by the time Germany attacks. UK have the units already if you include Canada.

Also France can reinforce Paris with an additional 6 units with their 3 transport from Morocco+Algeria+Portogal.

Total Germany will hit Paris with 42 inf and 19 art and (maybe 5 planes)? against 60 inf(F)+15 inf(UK) and 9 art(F)+5 art(UK).
After the attack Germany would only have 1 inf and 15 art left and would be destroyed when France counter-attack on F5 =)
So no, I would not wanna do this strat =)

    • RE: Anyone tried buying all fighters with germany and taking Paris round 5?

Well you cant reach Paris with your Berlin stack untill round 5…
Assuming everyone just retreat Germnay can hit France with 23 inf and 13 art (plus fighters) in round 4 where France can defend with 50 inf and 8 art = German Collaps… In round 5 you can hit France with 42 inf and 19 art (plus fighters) against appr. 55 inf and 8 art = Very close first round of fighting, but since France can reinforce much easier, Im beting Germany will lose…
Also if GB would most likely help out its ally to prevent this even being this close =)

I dont play with any restrictions, just according to the rulebook. But I cant comment anymore without specifics or arguments about my specifics. I kinda showed that its not so simple as to “send everthing east, dont worry”, clever counterattacks from Russia can more or less end it.

    • RE: Help Needed For Allied Strategy - Updated thoughts on Bid?

      1 Bomber destroys (1+2+3+4+5+6)/6 = 3.5 IPC
      IPC loss with Bomber = 12/6 = 2 IPC

SO with 6 Bombers you destroy 21 IPC (not 17-18) and lose 12 IPC.

Can you please be specific in what you do, how many units from where to what. Your analysis is very hard to follow. For instance attack Polen r1, means 6 inf and 2 art from Galicia against 6 inf and 2 art in Polen (very much not in your favor).

So please descibe in detail your round1 with AH, then I can go with Russia =)

    • RE: Should Cow Make a Strategy Guide for 1914?

I might as well continue with round 2-5 that concerns the eastern front.

      AH2:
Buy: Only units for the Italien front
Attack: Sevastopol with Romania with 13 inf, 4 art plus plane (bought r1) from Vienna (lets say you lost 3 inf taking Romania r1), Assume you lose 2 inf taking Sevastopol
Attack: Ukraine with 1 Inf (Do not comit everything from Galica since it will be counter-attacked from Polen and Moscow if you do)
Move: 4 inf and 2 art from Vienna to Galicia (the units you bought r1)

      R2(25 IPC+1):
Buy: 8 inf, save 2 IPC
Move: 15 inf and 6 art from Polen to Belarus
Move: 1 inf from Tatarstan to Moscow
Move: 1 inf from Karelia to Moscow
(Total in Moscow: 34 inf and 5 art)

      G2:
Buy: Inf and art, everything towards the western front,
Move: 31 inf,d 9 art,1 plane from Silicia and Prussia into Polen

      AH3:
Attack: 1 inf from Ukraine to Tatarstan
Move: 9 inf and 4 art from Sevastopol to Ukraine (Leave 2 inf in defence from Britain so they cant just take it with 1 unti)
Move: 18 inf and 6 art from Galicia to Ukraine (28 inf and 10 art + 1 plane total in Ukraine)

      R3(15+2 IPC):
      Buy: 5 inf
Attack: Ukraine with 15 inf and 6 art from Belarus and 34 inf and 5 art from Moscow; Kills appr. 24 units and loss: 18 units. AH: 4 inf, 10 art and 1 plane left, Russia: 31 inf and 11 art left
      Total in Moscow: 5 inf

      G3:
Attack: Livonia with 2 inf from Polen
Attack: Belarus with 29 inf, 9 art and 1 plane from Polen

      AH4:
      Nothing on the eastern front

      R4(11 IPC):
      Buy: 3 inf
Move: 30 inf and 11 art from Ukraine to Moscow (leave 1 unit in Ukraine so AH cant reinforce Moscow)
Total in Moscow: 38 inf and 11 art

      G4:
Attack: Moscow with 31 inf, 9 art and 1 plane (You will lose appr. 25 units and kill 18), Germany: 7 inf, 9 art and 1 plane left, Russia: 20 inf and 11 art left

      AH5:
      Attack: Ukraine from Ukraine

      R5:
Counterattack Moscow: Kill appr.: 14 units (Axis total: 17 Units), not enough to clear. Russian Revolution!

This is very tight though, and with some luck RR wont happen!
Britain would liberate atleast Sevastopol R3/R4, which means the way south will be goon for the Axis.

Romania accually needs to be taken r1 as AH, so overkill is good. The overall strat for the axis is to maximize number of territories they can take from russia before revolution and if possible take Sevastopol as it is the best link between east and south where you need to send remaining eastern troops to prolong the ottoman collaps.

In round 5 America can land 5 inf and 1 art(British on the British R5) and 6 inf, 2 art and 2 plans in
      A: Northern France
      B: Italy(Piemonte)

A or B depends on the situation. B is nice since you can invade Smyrna or Trans-Jordan R6. A is nice since its easier to set up a route b

As Ive said, I completly agree with the heavy Russia tactic, I play Axis almost exacly the same way (I usually Use Hannover from Germany as well but use less of the AH troops, I let them defend Italy by themselves).

And as Ive said even with this optimal Allied play-style you are still in a disadvantage against optimal Allied playstyle.
I dont think I can make this any clearer.

Dont think we can get anywhere with this, without going into specifics. Ive tried to be as specific as I can but I cant do much with comebacks without numbers =)

And I agree all-out eastern attack with AH (perhaps leaving the 6 inf for defence in the west against Italy and Using Berling+Prussia+ Silicia towards Russia as well, the best possible strat as Axis. However even with optimal Axisplay like that you are bound to lose most games against optimal Allied play, sorry.

    • RE: Balancing 1914

Oh I agree, Italy never invades or take Tyrol, the Munich forces are more than capable to hold on to that one. I also believe that Italy would have to make a retreat from Trieste in R4.

The main issue is that the Turks will fall R10 if both Allies and Axis play close to optimal and by that time AH would not have made much progress in Italy nor Germany in France, its just not possible.

With maximum luck perhaps the Turks wont fall untill R11 and with maximum dice luck Germany would have taken Belgium, Swiss and AH would have taken Venice and Piemonte by R10. However even in that scenario, the axis would have a hard time winning.

The times the allies accually lose is when they do stupid things like buying a grand navy with Britain(and perhaps even France) in R1-R3 and trying to press Germany not making any headway in Otto at all. With this flawed tactic the Ottomans would eventuelly crow into Africa and contest India which will lead to Axis win.
