Dont like the Ukraine attack for reasons given perfectly by DarthMaximus on the previous page, ie I wanna hinder Germany as long as possible from building in Karelia.

RE: What's the usual bid?
With a high bid its not a bad idea to save the US two transport and destroyer in the atlantic with an additional destroyer, 22 IPC saved is a great win in its own. With a 16 IPC bid you could also buy a destroyer for UK and save their transport+destroyer in the atlantic, that would in total save 37 IPC =)

RE: Central Powers Navy?
I havent lost yet as CP, but I have only played 4 games in total and havent faced anything close to optimal Allied play. My two wins as CP has gone exacly the same; Russia falls r6. Remaining stack of AH ang G moves south to releave the Ottomans (even without help Ottomans can hold on to around r9-10). Italy falls r10-11 after which Allys gives up.

RE: Central Powers Navy?
Considering the startingpoint, it does not look like a good idea for the axis to buy a navy.
The allies start with 7 BS and 9 Cruisers as offensive navy which is worth 165 IPC wheres the CP have 2 BS, 4 Cruisers and 4 Subs which is worth 84 IPC. Diffrence is 81 IPC worth of Navy.
And I know due to positioning and the ability to strike first the advantage is not that great. To be generous lets say the advantage is only 50 IPC. But that is almost 2 rounds of income for AH….
Consider also that the CP badly needs income to catch up to the enormous money advantage the Allies got spending 2 rounds of AH IPC to break even Navy which in no way can direcly lead to even the income, is a fundamental bad idea. -
RE: Austria-Hungary war plan
@Frederick:
7 infantry, and 1 artillery is probably is the good purchase for Russia because right now I’m thinking does Russia really need air supremacy?
Yes it does. Russia should build a large defensive stack in Belarus containing all its artillery and enough fighters to maintain air supremacy against attacks by either CP. This highlights one inherant advantage of the Allies - the main battles are fought nearer to their production centres, hence its easier for them to build just enough aircraft to sustain the advantage.
I dont really like buying planes with Russia as it is such a big gamble and the axis only need to keep up with Germany. You can even just attack Russia with German planes… For instance if Russia bought 3-4 planes in R1-R3 and Germany 3 planes G1-G2 (starts with 1 planes also), Germany can attack Russia with just its 4 planes and assume a even fight means all planes are gone. Say AH just bought 1 plane, but since Germany cleared the airway its enough for air supremecy in AH5… Russia now also wasted 24 IPC and will have 8 less defensive inf against AH.

RE: Game 4 Finished Uploaded to You Tube
Attacking Spain is always suboptimal as it delays US for at least one round.
With the US you can pretty much decide between a defensive or an aggressive approach. IN the defensive you go with 8 transports and in the aggressive you go with 7.
US has 20 IPC and cant move for the first 4 rounds. This means you have 80 IPC worth of units that you need to plan for.
Defensive:
8 transports, 56 ICP + 8 inf, 24 IPC = 80 IPC (You start with 6 inf and 2 art) -> 8 transport with 14 inf and 2 art.Offensive
7 transport,49 IPC + 1 inf, 3 IPC = 52 IPC -> You have 28 IPC to buy heavy hiters with (needs to fill 5 spots), perhaps, 1 art, 3 tanks and 1 plane. -> 7 transport with 7 inf, 3 art , 3 tanks and 1 plane.As most of your buys with the US are transport, you might as well buy those the first rounds so you can wait to decide if you wanna go offensive or defensive. In all my games so far US has been forced to go defensive in Italy.
Your statement that attacking Spain always wastes a round isn’t necessarily true.
Transports only cost 6 IPCs in this game meaning that you can buy 8 transports for 48 IPCs. That leaves 32 IPCs which if you want pure offense (optimal in most cases) can be 5 art 2 inf and a fighter for a grand total of 8 inf 7 art and a fighter. This force will have at least 51 pips (and a 50% chance of having 53 pips if the coastal shot misses), not to mention you should probably have the 66% chance of a bombard hit. It’s not a guarantee to be a one round battle by any means, but the most likely outcome is a one round battle.
Assuming that the US doesn’t need to buy any warships to deal with purchased German navy (which shouldn’t happen in a normal game), I like to hit Spain as a base of operations and a great income boost. If you wipe it out in one turn, it should pay for your losses in 3-4 turns. That income is also crucial to upping the US shuck from 6 units a turn to 8 units a turn. I wouldn’t say that Spain is a requirement, but unless Rome or Paris is in grave danger (and neither should be on turn 4 in most games) it helps the US do significantly more damage in the long run.
Sorry I got some fact wrong, Transport 6 IPC and US can start moving in turn 4 not 5.
This means US needs to spend 60 IPC. The best way I can think of attacking Spain turn 4 is with 7 transport stacked with 12inf/2art which means an average 6.5 hits first round (including BS and Cruiser). Since Spain has 8 units its a gamle unless you are willing to spend 2 round taking it.
However you also need to take into account that US also loses 4 units in average by doing this attack which means not only does the US aid risk coming 1 turn late it also lacks 4 inf. 4 inf = 12 IPC, Spain is worth 4 IPC -> The Payback on investment is 3 turns… I would dare say that by the turn (9-10) US have gotten its investment back the game is more or less over, but I dare say that the influence the US can have by adding 4 more inf one turn earlier at turn 6-7 can really impact the game.Why isent this a no brainer bad idea to attack Spain?

RE: Game 4 Finished Uploaded to You Tube
The plane is going east the rest is going west.
Assume some bad luck against serbia in round 1, 3inf/2art surviving and 1 russian inf left.
Assume Italiens did not attack AH round 1 (its a bad play for the italiens)AH2:
Vienna 4inf/2art ->Trieste
Serbia 2inf/2art ->Trieste (retreat but leave one unit so Russia cant move its inf)
Trieste should now have 12inf/6art
Buy (with 29IPC): 7inf/2artOttoman2
Bulgaria 6inf/1art ->Serbia (I assume you go light into bulgaria so you can use the rest for UK defence)Italy2
Hard choices. They can move in 13inf/4art into Tyrole which is still empty or attack Trieste.
Attack Trieste means 13inf/4art vs 12inf/6art ->Average Italy loses 9 and AH loses 7. AH will pretty much kill the rest in round 3, leaving the road to Rome kinda open. Moving into Tyrole is a little better but Italy will still be hit hard round3.The point Im trying to make that even if you leave Italy alone round1, they cant go on the offensive as it makes capture of Rome even faster.

RE: Game 4 Finished Uploaded to You Tube
Thought about going into Russia heavy with AH and ignoring Italy completly? Opening moves something like:
Galicia 6inf/2art -> Romania
BudaPest 12inf/2 art -> Romania
Trieste 6inf/2art -> Serbia
Tyrole 6inf/2art ->Treiste
Vienna 12inf/2art ->GaliciaBuy 4inf/2art/1plane
Romania should fall with something like 3 inf losses for AH and Serbia should almost fall or have 1 Russian inf left.
That means Russia are facing 15inf/4art in Romania and 18inf/4art in Galicia. Really hard place to be in… Stacking Polan or Ukrane will be a disaster and they can only really fall back ino Belarus.

RE: Bidding for OOB
I dont really like a bid for this game as it influences too much on the eastern front. If I got a 20 bid I would place it all into Budapest for my round1 strike at Romania, which would make my Russia campagne more or less a garantee.
I would Wittman said alter the starting navy balance by removing some Allied ships (maybe take away one of Russias cruiser and an italian BS). -
RE: Bidding for the Machine, TripleA HardAI
Have they “fixed” the HardAI Japan strategy? Feels like it goes for Alaska in all my games and never pushes to take India untill very late.

Any new A&A?
Does anyone know if there is any new A&A games coming out any time soon?

RE: Germany's war plan
Often PTR means “public tests realms” so I get confused every time I see abbreviation =)

RE: Austria-Hungary war plan
Buying Navy as AH is a waste. During the invasion and capture of RUssia which should be done as soon as possible (every turn counts) you should hold against Italy by just buying inf. If you have a surviving force left in Russia after RR it should support south towards India. After RR all new IPC should be invested towards an all-out landbattle in Italy and if you must support Ottomans so it doesent fal against UK.
-
RE: Ottoman Empire's war plan
Well invading Greece is a really bad idea, so is buying a navy. Helping to invade Russia is a good idea however with some luck you dont need to as the other CPs can do that alone and the Ottomans really need every troup they have in order to defend against UK.
So in simple terms the initial goal is to defend against UK and later to capture India/africa if the tides turn. -
RE: All the German openings: For Beginners
Nice work as always! Would be nice with some Aricaopeners as Germany pretty much acts first in that region; All-out Eqypt G1, TJ G1 or perhaps take Gibralatar G1? Perhaps even skip Africa all together and evac? =)
-
RE: Austria-Hungary war plan
Not a bad strat, however I dont like any plan that dont involve an all-out attack eastwards round1. CP have a real hard time in this game and it is close to impossible if you dont eliminate Russia early (at least against a good player).

RE: KAF (Kontrol Asia First) – Workable in 2nd Edition?
Very nice reply from MarineIguana and I agree completly that is the way to pressure Japan. However even with optimal play KAF or KJF is a way worse approach than KGF and I dont see myself ever winning a game using that strat against a good Axis player.
I have a question regarding what to do with the India and ANZAC transports? In KGF you normally use them to pressure Germany T4 and onwards, but what do you use them for in KJF/KAF? -
RE: 1942.2 IPC revisions for a 3rd Edition
Are we just talking about IPC revisions? In that case I pretty mush are in line with your suggestions. Perhaps I would merge Austlia again and add 1-2 IPC which I would remove from Africa. That way the pacific options for the British would be way more interesting.

RE: All the Russian openings: For Begginers
Nice post again! I like your ideas and I think you analyze the situation correctly what to do and why.
The main pressure point in KJF imo is to free the indiastack as soon as possible to move east to help Russia before it collapses, which it will quite fast since Germany can throw everything east. So this means that USA needs Borneo asap (each turn shaved is huge). And imo this can only be done if the british attacks and have insane luck against Japan round1 in sz37. I completly agree that its a bad play but so is KJF to be fair and you need a great deal of luck.
What I mean is there isent a way to do KJF with odds on your side (at least against someone decent).
