    • RE: Question

      @Gamer:

      The last word is a set preliminarily titled “The Late War” MIGHT be coming out in 2012.  Wizards of the Coast, the manufacturer, seems to be winding this game down, as it is pouring resources into a new game - Angels 20 (an airplane miniature combat simulation game) seemingly at the expense of AAM.

      Is that airplane game set in ww2 by chance? I’m intrigued.

    • RE: Bombers

      I don’t know about this. Heavy bombers flew at high altitudes and could not make attacks in such close proximity to friedly troops on a map of this scale I would think. I could see them attacking one half of the board and hitting randomly a string of around 4 hexes.

      I will say ad the owner of a substantial German Army, the rules for the Stuka were disappointing with that planes power and ability to make precsion attacks. The damage done according to the stats is not a fair representation of what that plane could do. Should have been a rule about intimidation with the plane. Especially the Ju-87’s that used the siren of Jericho.

      Yes I LOVE the grizzled Veteran… and the wherewolf partisans I have yet to get. I’ve lost an entire battle by being ambushed by partisans!

      But alas! No stores carry AA miniatures anymore and I have no one to play with anymore  :-(

      I miss this forum. It’s been a year since my last visit. GOD how I miss it.

    • RE: 1942: The Eastern Front

      I must admit that the war was lost at this point. The Germans could have regrouped and closed some of the pockets that caused supply disruption but the bottom line is: Germany could not replace their casualties and Russia could. You kill a million Russians, and they send 2 million more. The Battle for Narva is a perfect example of the superiority of Der Waffen SS. But this battle was slowly lost due to Soviet numbers. Sheer numbers.

    • RE: Speed Boost?

      @Motdc:

      Not much of an aircraft person, but I think its a first-strike type ability right?

      Well it says once per game you can declare a speed boost and the results of the combat are resolved immediately. I have NO idea what this means.

    • RE: Nazi Germany VS The Soviet Union

      Good post Deaths Head 420. Hitler was the main problem when you bring up the interesting topic of “Liberators over conquerors.” That’s what most Russian tows viewed them as in the beginning but the Enzestsgruppen units quickly ruined relations with their exterminations and other atrocities. Those units wore a uniform almost identical to the SS with the main difference being the collar patches were not the same and they were not allowed an honor band around the sleeve.

      To almost any civilian, this mistook them for the “SS” who, in the beginning, were more than willing to treat the Russian civilians fairly because of the help they were giving. The Luftwaffe felt the same way. Hitler and Himmler however were behind the continuation of war atrocities. Hitler would have died at some point soon and if he was assasinated things could have been far different.

      That’s all speculation but in my opinion, if a man like Rommel would have been successor to the Fuhrer after an assasination, the German war effort could have gone a completely different direction since Rommel was a pragmatist and in no way anti semtatic. Hitlers successor Goerring was also not anti-sematic and under the influence of his wife who had many Jewish friends, secretly helped jews out of Nazi occupied territory and spared the lives of some in custody.

      I believe the real problems withing the Reich affecting the war effort were Hitlers and Himmlers diabolical insanity and the lack of a cognitive, centralized leadership between the Weihrmacht, Navy, Luftwaffe and the SS.

    • Speed Boost?

      Could someone please clarify the rule of “speed boost” for the Dornier German aircraft? I don’t fully understand how this is beneficial. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

      I think you poll was pretty good AB. But you’ll always get someone with a wealth of knowledge regarding a facet of the subject that demmands attention.

      @ABWorsham:

      My Criteria for making the list.

      1. Length of Service
      2. Impact on the War

      I did make a mistake by leaving the Mosquito off the list, which was corrected.

      Yes, the P-39 is an american design, however it was the Eastern Front where the majority of P-39 saw combat. The Russians loved the P-39. The P-39 impact on the war was with the Soviets.

      If my poll does not meet your standards then make your own.

    • RE: Scenario Ideas Help please!

      You need at least 100 points to give Karma or take it away “smite” (give negative point). Once you have 100 posts all you need to do is look at someones name on a forum. You’ll figure it out. I’ts very self evident once you have 100 posts.

    • RE: Favorite WW2 Bomber

      @11HP20:

      Although it was a dive bomber I picked the Stuka. That plane simply has that “it” factor. Since I couldn’t narrow it down to 3 I just stuck with 1 vote. My number 2 would be the B-29. I particular I like the Enola Gay and Bach’s Car.

      Yes I would agree with you about the Stuka. What an amazing dive bomber that was able to work in such close proximity with friendly forces. Although not all of them were equipped with the “Siren Of Jericho”, that had a profound effect on enemy morale. Even when they were out of ammunition, the bombers would still do dry runs at opposing forces just to freak them out. It worked!!

      Glad to see the B-17 is still the front runner. Best all around bomber of the war if you ask me. It brought Germany to it’s knees.

      @oldguard11:

      B-17 is by far my favorite. My father-in-law was a radio operator on one (shot down over Germany and captured in 1944) :-(.
      P.S. yes he is still kicking

      Wow! What I wouldn’t give to have coffee with him and here his story! Those radio operators had to get on the Browning 50’s all the time when getting jumped by hundreds of 109’s and 190’s.

    • RE: Favorite WW2 Bomber

      You could pick 3? DAMNIT! I only picked one and now it’s too late. Such a tough choice and SUCH a good poll. I love the stuka, he-11, Mitchell and the Condor was amazing. I like this poll because it doesn’t just spread one catagory (ie: long range, twin or double engine, ect)

      Here’s the B-17G I got to spend 45 minutes in. I spent most of the time trying to teach myself the instruments.

      (notice the altimeter on the back of the waist mounted 50 cal. I thought that was interesting. I’m assuming it served so they knew when to be on oxygen and probably when they needed to get out of the plane if it was going down.

    • RE: Fun POW stories

      That’s awesome! Thanks for posting.

      There’s a simlilar humor in the circumstances revolving around conditions for German POW’s during the Battle of Britain.

      Germans were held in dorm like settings in most cases with bunk beds. They were aloud to put pro nazi propaganda and flags on their walls. They were given pool and card tables and treated very well. Though there was strict food rationing in England, they were still aloud as much jam for their toast as they wanted.

      These prisoners of course, were almost all pilots. Escape attempts were extremely rare because what was one going to do? Swim the channel?

      This however did not stop a few hilarious attempts by hard nosed national socialists. One attempt in particular involved a German pilot who punched out a guard and I believe assaulted another. He made it out of the camp and was promptly caught and put into solitary confinment. His confinment happened to occur over Christmas so the Brits sent him a VERY nice meal complete with a fine glass of wine or port to compliment it. They even had Santa Clause go down to visit and bring him presents!

      I guess anything less would be uncivilized. I love it.

      @Guerrilla:

      B-17, reliable, hard to kill, good protection, good payload, and long range… couldn’t ask for anything more out of a bomber.

      GG

      BTW. Well put. I couldn’t possibly sum it up any better than that.
