    • RE: Bids

I really don’t think this game needs a bid. Once Germany and Japan become monsters, they just need to keep pressure way up. In the case of Japan, they can really go where ever they want in the pacific without significant Allied intervention being involved.

In that case, All Germany has to do is play the waiting game as the other posters have said.

I’ve never played a KGF strat in AAAE because really each side should be taken in equal amounts, but I can’t imagine the Allies winning a game in which they ignore Japan and end up on the receiving end of a major invasion on the West Coast and a probable invasion of Moscow around the same time.

But then again, I wouldn’t mind an extra tank somewhere in my empire.

    • RE: Cutting the Italian legs out from under the axis

I think Britain could take out Italy’s fleet pretty easily with it’s bombers and shipping, if they aren’t too screwed over by the G1 attacks of course.

And then the USA could send over it’s bomber just in case.

Thanks for the clarification on that, because we didn’t really look up the rules until we got the tech, so I was skeptical of it’s validity.

To destroy a large portion of the British fleet. I know it’s usually bad news to have them leave the Med, but it was a gamble that worked in the end.

Title:  Technology Rules? Yeah, Okay. (1941)
      Date:  February 23, 2009
      Special Rules: NO and Tech.
Victor:  Draw. An Allied player dropped out so we stopped.
      Game Length:  6 hours - 4 or 5 rounds.
Bias:  About Even, the two veteran players were split up. Me as Axis was paired with newbie.
      Description:
The Germans exploded out, gaining all thier National Objectives, and kept them for the remainder of the game. They kept major pressure on the Russia by streaming forces across the Eastern Front. Besides a horrendous first turn at Sea, the navy recovered later in the game. Not much ground was taken after reaching the gates of Moscow due to the stacking, but Caucasus was taken late in the game but returned.
The Russians did well to stem the tide of combat. They got Rockets in the middle of the game which was an annoyance to placing troops into Karelia. They stemmed the Japanese tide at Bury and never relented.
Japan expanded a lot but played a more conservative game. They ended up with a nearly destroyed China and a weakened British Empire. Their fleet was growing quite large and prepping to engage the US fleet.
The Brits had a shamble of a game. They did good to protect their empire, but made some bad attempts in France and the Atlantic, losing their fleet towards the end to German Bombers and the Italian navy.
The Italians did good, without ever really expanding into Africa. They helped support Germany in France and were a pain in the British side.
USA Did well, building up a large navy and prepping it for the assault on Japan. They made a late game mistake, wasting 15 IPCs on an IC in Brazil for no reason. They used their Bombers to harass the German economy, but to no real effect.

Observations/Recommendations:  This game, although every major power bought it, there wasn’t much tech until later in the game, and only the Allies were successful with it. The NOs really add something else to the game, and allow for more interesting games. I was amazed at how much money Germany could make with it’s NOs. I was so glad to be able to pump out so many troops.
On a side note, Could the AA gun in Caucasus (If Russia has rockets) fire upon the IC in Rome?

    • RE: Italy Uses and Reasons for Being

From the moment I opened the box I saw that Italy was going to be very useful to the Axis, and it turns out they are. The guys I play with underestimate the power of Italy, and I’ve done quite well in handling their actions in the Mediterranean, but I have yet to conquer all of Afrika and show the Allies what they can do. It’s only a matter of time.

If the Japanese take over the British Empire in the East, and the Italians manage to break through into the underbelly of Afrika, the allies and most importantly the UK have a big problem on their hands.

    • RE: Inglorious Basterds

This movie is all about the violence. And that’s awesome.

Well, according to Wikipedia (yeah I know), It’s partially based off of an Italian film, I bet involving less violence. But hey, who cares?

    • RE: Ignore Germany Strategy

I’m not negative about new ideas, I just don’t like his “defend to the death” idea of his strategy. I believe that something like it could work, just maybe not in exactly the way he prescribes here. It is great in theory, but the plan changes accordingly to how the tides of war are shifting.

I will try something like this strategy in my next game, but I don’t think it will end up exactly as it is planned out here.

    • RE: Ignore Germany Strategy

About your comment about the German fleet being sunk: the same thing could be said towards the British Fleet. It’s never that cut and dry.

Also, I would say the British empire is in trouble when Japan takes most of it over J1.

You seem to be confident that every aspect of this plan will work flawlessly. What if say, the Germans prematurely break through into Moscow before your allotted few turns? What if Japan manages to hold onto it’s newly acquired colonies and fights off or decimates the US fleet? How will that work into your great strategy?

    • RE: Ignore Germany Strategy

What if when Japan falls they are in a position to put a major blow onto one of the allies? What If they are not as spread out and disorganized as one might think. What if they have a very organized defense and a plan to counterattack the allies on the turn Japan falls?

All valid thoughts. I would keep playing. I would want to see if I could win back the game for the Allies. And as LuckyDay said: It’s all about the dice.
