I would be concerned with the UK trying to cover both norway to reinforce Russia and delving into Africa on their own. They would have to take out the German Med navy and hold it against new builds. I think that they would have to focus on one or the other and either leave Russia alone for 3-5 turns or give up Africa. Without the Americans into Africa, I think UK’s divided punch is too weak in Africa.
I think you give up Africa and hold Germany back until the US contains Jap….

RE: How much does artillery help?
I think that somewhere in the 3.1.1 to 5.2.1 is a good call.
After further reflection, we are comparing sims of 5inf/4art v 5inf/4arm or 7/7s v whatever… i may just want a perfect world on this, but I do not think I’m going to attack 9 inf and arm with 10 inf/art, attacking with only the same amount of units or 1 more than just doesn’t seem like the best odds… maybe if we add int the fighter support. if there is 7 inf/7arm in a territory, I’m not going into it without at least a 50% number superiority to take losses, whether it’s with fighters or more land units. Might as well stack and make them do it too while I look for the flank… Why let them see it coming, of course I might just want it all, that’s the japanese way, or is it the german…hmmm

RE: Rundstedt France Defense
what about if you keep the inf/art that was along the coast along with the tanks you add… then if you do retake france, you stand a better chance of holding against the next wave of allied landings, which may not be a whole lot stronger than the last as they are using trains of transports.
i’ve not played much AAE, Rundstedt looks like a good deterrent, especially early. maybe alternating landing zones by brits from uk and americans out of algeria into france and vichy france could split the defense though…

RE: How much does artillery help?
@froodster:
I think if you trade territories with anything more than Inf/Ftrs you need to check your head.
i agree frood, but that was the example given, so in that scenario, the art is the better trade.
i’ve been trying to read back through earlier posts, is there a baseline that is being asked about art vs other things? is it art by itself? supported with inf? w/ arm? fighters?
i’ve been running the 4 arm vs 5 inf on your calc, and art comes out ahead the far majority of the time, defending or attacking. I gotta say too, the whole aacalc thing is awesome, great job

RE: How much does artillery help?
And when you are trading territories and you have to attack more territories than you have air units to assist with, the guy trading his artillery for the guy trading his armor will come out ahead.
Quote from Critmonster, “i feel art is early game and as it moves forward with the inf then armor can catch up for the knockout punch with steady columns of infantry feeding new fodder to the slaughterhouse”
U505 makes a good point, and it goes along with critmonster’s just after. Â trading art in greater numbers (w/ inf) for your opponent’s tanks is much better, because you will have more inf/art than tanks, more than likely, especially when you are fighting over a territory that costs only 2 or 3. Â
Art has it’s place, as critmonster said, it is great early to march with the inf and then later the tanks can be more quickly rushed to the front to support, or turned about to counter a threat on the flank. Â if you are Jpn, you can load inf/art early into asia and then follow up with the tanks that can catch up.of course that’s just my opinion, i could be wrong…

RE: Brit CV and US FTR's
i agree, it doesn’t make sense if the ship is being attacked that the fighters (whatever nationality) would not be launched to defend the ship, and should be able to be hit instead of the CV.
the rule clarification about launching before a CV moves makes sense only when you only allow fighters from your own country to be on your CV, which may also make more sense than your allies landing on yours…
alas, it may be one for the players to decide on before the game and sides are chosen.

RE: Response to strong Japanese Navy with 2 hit BB's
its been a while since i played the original, can’t remember setup differences too well, so forgive me if i’m off on this, but generally speaking, i’d think that perhaps a strong response back would be to move the pacific BB to the atlantic, yes, leave the trn to block and then buy the BB and empty the bank on subs for U1, and if Japan is still lurking about, follow it up with multiple subs or the carrier on U2. then take the fleet back towards pearl and drive them back, adding subs/trns from w-us. Japan may want to intimidate the US, but not try to go toe to toe with 2 of the US’ BB and sundry others, as if they lose they won’t be able to rebuild before the US is at their port.
the big question is though if Britain can help keep Rus alive long enough without the US support. Japan may have just bought Germany enough time to drop Moscow.
though i guess another thought is just to bulk up the infantry in the continental us, get a few subs to protect the trns and continue the KGF plan, as Japan would take a couple turns to get any number of troops to the US, save alaska, as long as the continental us is protected, you could get by for a couple rounds, bulk up against germany and then turn back to Japan… -
RE: SBR Defending fighters
I would agree, while I don’t see anything that says exactly that in the AAE rules, it appears pretty clear that that is the case with the SBR rule 5 that says that defending fighters used in SBR defense cannot also be used in defense of a land attack against the same territory.

**"Strategic Bombing
As a defender against a strategic bombing run, can you move planes in from surrounding spaces to defend, or is it only planes already in the space with the industrial complex that can be used for defense?
Just the ones already there."** -
RE: 5 days until season 6! Make your predictions! (24)
“Lobster” eh, well, part of the season is in NY this year, why not take an hour to drive up the coast and pick up a few roaches of the sea…. especially if there isn’t any british semi-ex-husbands of Jack’s girlfriend around to torture with a lamp cord sparks.
and on a tangent, why is everything in LA in seasons 1-5 only 20 mins away. I’ve only visited there twice, but nobody was getting anywhere in 20 mins…

RE: How much of an A&A sore loser are you?
it’s not the losing that bugs me, it’s losing and then the being made fun of for playing the Imperial March from Star Wars back at the beginning of all my turns during the game and still losing.

RE: Ice-skating in Calcutta
Though I would think that if you are going by the exact wording of the rules, then a NA called Russian winter would only apply to Russia, and the Russian (red) territories, . I mean, it’s not called British-occupied Indian winter that just happens to be frequented by a few Russian platoons, and I would think that it is for a reason.
but that is IMHO, I could be wrong…

RE: 5 days until season 6! Make your predictions! (24)
i predict that Jack’s heart will stop somewhere around episode 5-6… he’s has to die at least once a season.
Kim will make an appearance and either be hooked up with another lunatic or come back to work at CTU
the new president Palmer will have married someone that will bring all sorts of problems to his term.
–somewhere by ep 12 jack will use a lamp to “question” a suspect
(ok, that’s probably more of a hope…hehehe) -
