In our games, one side is usually further ahead than the other by the time they achieve a standard victory; thus, we usually call it after 9 VCs.
Though, Honolulu changes things; Axis no longer has to take Moscow…

@Cow:
One of the few obvious things that isn’t so obvious to me yet is how to make USA highly effective in the Pacific.
Hear, hear. I mean, it’s not like we’re used to a beefy America starting in the Pacific!
@Cow:
Everything gets neglected with aa50 sitting around. Even the ne
Don’t worry, man. At this rate, Axis & Allies 50th (52nd?) Anniversary Second Edition will be out by Christmas. =D
Crud, the new version won’t load on my phone (“restricted content?”). I’ll have to check it out tomorrow.
Thirdly, Africa can be completely ignored by both sides, if they so choose, It’s only worth 2 IPC. the only strategic importance is Egypt as in offers a shortcut to Caucasus or rather a different route into Caucusus so it can be threatened from two sides.
This is the one thing I don’t love–that Afrika is such a non-factor (other than as a short-cut, as you mentioned). Â The only IPC-producing territory outside Egypt is South Afrika? Â Seriously?
Germany seems awfully strong compared to the other nations.
I agree with this; Also, Japan has a monster fleet (compared to the rest of the nations).
I think the general consensus is to attack Ukraine, so the point of view has to be taken with Ukraine out of commision. Do you attack WRus now as Germany on G1? I think even just doing 1 round of attacks and then retreating is not worth it…not going to risk it with a 55% chance of losing (you’d probably only eliminate the Russian inf while losing the inf/tanks on the attack with a distinct possibilty of losing FTRs…again, any luck roll by the AAs would be way too costly and game over for the Axis).
If this was JUST an all out WRus attack (by Russia), I would proably hit WRus G1 too (ignoring Caucus) and deal with the Atlantic on G2.
If I understand correctly, you’re saying you wouldn’t hit WR on G1 provided the Russians hit Ukraine. Then what would you suggest Germany do in such a situation? Possibly take Kar, retake Ukr?
My friend and I played 2 games last night and I was the Axis both time’s and won in the 4th round both times. My thoughts after playing for the first time is that the Axis have an advantage, my firend went full Pacific with USA both times and he kept Japan in check, but Germany went wild. I built a carrier both games and UK could not build a fleet and I took them over twice. I think the right mix would be 50% usa in the Atlantic and Pacific. I would like to hear what Hobbes did with his plan as the Allies as the next time we play, I will be the Allies. The Allies must have some kind of threat in the Atlantic to win this game. Just my thoughts.
I agree that US must split–it’s first priority is sending something Britain’s way so UK’s fleet isn’t instantly vaporized by the Germans. My favorite thing about 1942.2 is that America feels stronger in the Pacific, which helps them go 50/50 a bit easier.
Agreed. I never can go back to Classic or Revised. I am curious though if I will prefer 1942.2 over 1942.1.
Heh, I feel slightly guilty that my copy of Revised (all I had the last 8 years) is being neglected due to 1942.2.
@Cow:
I see a G5, vote. Might have to agree another round for more cannon fodder is better since the tank to infantry ratio is kinda off for G4.
G5, aye! (Sorry for voting without a comment, was a bit pressed for time earlier.)
And that is exactly the reason–cannon fodder. Also gives Japan a bit more time, in case Moscow needs to be “double-tapped.”
Aaaw, Hitler looks so sad at the end! I almost feel bad for him. "I just wanted the Tigers…"Â =(
Hitler was a person. He died horribly, seeing all his dreams crushed, a broken, despondent, and despair-filled man. It’s normal to empathize with anyone in that situation, part of what makes us human. I feel bad for the decisions he made to put himself and the whole world in that situation.
AND 1942.2 didn’t even come with Tigers. Le sigh.
Just uploaded the final version, a few changes to the script on the feedback (mech inf got dropped, few people get the joke). Thanks :)
ROFL!

No complaints here on 42.2’s balance, per se. My gripe is that my opening options feel so limited-moves like attacking the US fleet with subs/UK going kamikaze at East Indies/Russia taking Ukraine & WRus feel more like forgone conclusions than true “options.”
What was the common factor why the Allies won in your games?
I like America’s turn 1 buy of 4-5 DD. That (plus the Panama cruiser) parked next to Britain will allow UK to drop a fleet by UK3. Until then, lots of air for UK. Russia is a LOT harder to defend in this version (compared to Revised, the last version I played), so it needs LOTS of support.
They messed up the wording on the Battle Strip?! For SHAME! =D
Hitler’s obssession with tanks is hilarious! “At least 1941 got Tigers.” <~best new line.
The mechanized infantry jokes were kinda lost on me, though… =\
“They think they can stop my G1 8 Armor buy!”
Priceless. XD
I understand they removed Italy’s IC for balance in Africa; at the same time, it’s odd not having something that’s been there for the last three decades!!
Btw, ‘nerf’ generally means to make something weaker.
I don’t think the German BB can reach SZ8- 1 movement to SZ6, another to SZ7 or 9, it’s still one space away. I was tryin to figure out how to sink the British BB/sub AND the CV with minimal losses; maybe 3 FTR/bomber to kill the battleship, 2 subs to sink the carrier?
Buying naval bad for India, especially if you don’t kill the E. Indies fleet. If the entire Japanese fleet musters at FIC and hits everything in Burma, India will fall next turn…sure, you can attack with your fleet, but the Japanese will have 6(4s) in there…you will do damage, but not enough to save India. Build defensive units in India, while using the transports to reinforce
Sure, the US can get there to defeat the remaining Japan fleet, but India will be gone and the Axis will be knock knock knocking on Caucus’s door…
Okay, that makes sense- buying navy at India means not buying land means Japan takes India. Does this make attacking the EI fleet a foregone conclusion? What if Germany takes out the Egy FTR, making the attack less likely to succeed?
Nice pic! Tigers rock. :mrgreen:
