I prefer European battles too, just because I’m more unbiased there. I need to get on ebay and build up my Japanese armies. I haven’t even 200 points for them total. My biggest ones are US and Germany, with about 500-600 points for each. I also want to build up my Soviets; I have enough for smaller scale fights, but I want to use it for my custom made maps too.

RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 4: D-Day
Are there rules for using just one hero? It makes sense to me. If you just have one hero, your opponent can decide whether it’s worth it to focus on killing him.
Obstacles being so cheap may actually make for the biggest change in playing the game.I am hoping they get a Marine hero, since the Marine infantrymen are actually a little weaker than I expected.

RE: Personal arguements will end, right now
NAMBLA = instant electric chair, as far as I’m concerned.

RE: Personal arguements will end, right now
If people are hating each other, just make a “post a pic of your cat” thread. People who like to argue on the internet also seem to love cats and become best friends when they show pictures of them.

RE: Any good Civil War games?
I’ve been wanting to get the Sid Meier games.
As for boards, Battle Cry looks a lot like Memoir '44, which I have not played. How is that for quick games that don’t require a history lesson or an explanation of Wargames to the person I want to play against? -
RE: King of the WW2 FPS's
I think you can show the conflict from both sides without promoting any ideology. I don’t think CoD was praising Stalin when it had the Soviet Commander saying “Comrade Stalin would be proud of you, as I am proud of you!” because no one likes Stalin. It’s just showing history as it happened. The same thing could apply to German units who fought in the army of a tyrant but fought for many reasons unrelated to his ambition, just like every volunteer army in history.

RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 4: D-Day
@Der:
At the beginning of your move phase you may replace any number of your MG42s with Sandbagged MG Teams, and vice versa.
That’s along the same thinking I’ve been doing.

I think a good idea would to have a ‘dug in’ marker for any units. One Action Phase could be used to dig in, but a Movement OR Action phase could be used to ‘saddle up.’

Making maps and rules for them
I bought a large, blank hex map for use with A&A minis and I am going to make some of my own hexes to portray different situations. Urban areas will be the ones for biggest change. Instead of having urban areas that act as streets and buildings, I was going to make these seperate and have rules for entering cover in the “building” hexes. The building hexes will have a higher level of cover and can be destroyed with a certain level of attack from a cannon. The building hexes will have a destroyed one of the same on the reverse side, which reduce cover to the level of forests. I will probably use the same destruction rule for bridges.
I may also make tower hexes for cities as well, which give infantry an increased medium and far range, while negating any close combat benefits. Any units in the tower when destroyed will also be destroyed immediately. Towers will not enjoy the benefits of line-of-sight for obvious reasons.
To denote that a unit has entered the building I will probably have him on side of the hex that will be more shaded.Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: French Army (formerly: Hi everyone)
The French need some good units, but the Chinese really need them. French Riflemen are good if you tend to put your strength in Urban areas though.
What would be interesting is if they had Free French partisans the same way the SU gets communist partisans. -
RE: Leaders Under Fire
If a unit ignores all Disrupt status, do you guys even put it face up on there or just take it away at the casualty phase?

RE: Unfairness of uber-Tanks
Yeah check out the pershing and the MGC, there goes the axis fun. Those bitches are amazing. PEACE
I bought four Set 3’s and got 2 Pershings. So much for dominating the western tank war. heh

RE: Axis & Allies Naval Miniatures
If the War at Sea minis only consist of ships and fighters, and do not cross over with the original game, will you still buy it?
I’m kind of wondering how tactics will work out. By this time, the biggest damage done to ships was from aircraft, but they still had the big guns. Strafing or T tactics from the gunships wouldn’t be totally outmoded.

RE: Suggested builds and stratagy for a 150 point axis army
Can’t go wrong with the SS Panzergrenadiers. Good accuracy and great defence. I actually like the Oberlieutenant best of all officers because he is great for the attack. For tanks, I use two Panzer Ausf IV’s and either one heavy hitter (like the Nashorn) when I’m going to be on defence, or a larger and more balanced force for attack.

RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 3: Contested Skies
Okay I got three sets today. Got the Pershing tank, which is ridiculously good. Got a good balance between vehicles, air, and footsoldiers.
Seems to me that this one is very heavy for the Allied forces. I’ll ebay some to get German aircraft so I can balance the world out. Good infantry units in this one. Hopefully Set 4 is stronger for Axis. Set 1 seemed stronger for Axis, while 2 and 3 had more Allies.

Cold War, anyone tried it?
The guns had hardly stopped smoking from World War 2 when the Cold War started. So what if the war instead started out blazing hot?
It’s pretty simple: US vs Soviets.
Who would be allied to who? I shot from the hip with the rules and had no British intervention, France on the Soviet side, no German or Japanese units, but yes for italy on the Soviet side (besides blackshirts).

RE: Mel Gibson's future movies
I’m serious, I really didn’t think the Passion was that violent. Maybe it was longer than most deaths in movies, but it still wasn’t especially violent.
-
RE: Mel Gibson's future movies
He went with the last hours of Jesus because it hasn’t been done right in films in such a long time. Personally, I enjoyed the movie because it told and important story. All of the hype about it being overly violent was just hypocrisy. After all, that was soon after Kill Bill came out, and that movie was given love by all of the windbag critics. It really wasn’t that shocking or violent to me. I’ve seen plays much more brutal my entire life, and if you believe in it, it’s very moving and important.
And besides that, doncha know we all just love violence in movies?

RE: Question regarding American paratroopers
Besides for the paratrooper ability, are all other special abilities used as many times as need be?
Unless they specify otherwise, like the Panzer Ausf III’s smokescreen or the Wermacht Expert Sniper’s headshot.

RE: Terrain and Hex maps
Whoa that’s more advanced than I was thinking, but thanks anyways. Are there any other one dimensional hex markers that fit A&A besides the Memoir '44 ones?
