      I had some time off work so I sat and grinded out a complete set of Anniversary edition components. What do you think?
      They aren’t display standard but I think they look great on the game board. I’ve also added lots of decals from historical boardgaming. Great site by the way.

      @nolimit Thanks! Yeah, I’ve seen some examples of national emblems on the bases and it looks very effective but I’ve done 30 infantry for each nation and I couldn’t face all that fiddly work on so many bases!

      I went and got some Humbrol matt spray varnish earlier. I warmed it up a bit and gave it a good shake which seems to have produced pretty good results. I’m just letting everything cure overnight now.

    • A question about capital taking.

      Hello everyone, I’m new here.
      If, for example I was playing as Russia and I lost my capital to Germany, I would hand all my IPC’s to Germany and be unable to receive income or build any troops until my capital was liberated. If during this time I then somehow managed to use my remaining Russian troops to conquer Berlin (lets assume Germany had bled itself dry taking Moscow) then Germany would have to hand me its IPC’s, which I could not spend? Is that right?

      @private-panic Hello there, I live in Newark in Notts and I would be glad to attend both of those events if you have room. Are they one day events?

      @the-captain Thanks! Its very encouraging to hear your comments.
      I primed them in grey Humbrol acrylic primer and painted them in the Vallejo range of acrylic paints and then finished them with waterslide decals from historicalboardgaming.com. I got into a bit of a rythym with the painting. There was a ton of miniatures to get through and I sort of production lined them. It would have been nice to really take my time with them but there were too many and I wanted to get them onto the board.
      I’ll have a look at the ones you mentioned to try and get some inspiration.

    • A question about fighters on carriers.

      If I have a fighter on a carrier and the fighter moves 2 spaces away to attack something and then 2 spaces back to land on the carrier during the non combat movement phase, it has then used all 4 of its movement points. Can that carrier then also move 2 spaces carrying the spent fighter as part of the carriers non combat movement phase?

      @leebear By far the most laborious part of the painting was the infantry. All the other stuff was fun to paint but you have to really focus on small detail with infantry to stop them looking a mess. If you look closely you’ll see a couple of shortcuts I’ve used such as with Japan and Germany where I’ve painted the bases and the boots the same colour to avoid having to etch my way around the boot line on every model.

      @the-captain Ahh, yeah you’d certainly need a comprehensive colour scheme like that to play with those rules, from what I’ve seen.
      I’ve actually gotten better by the end of painting 600 miniatures than I was to start with, meaning I keep wanting to repaint the ones I did first. Its like a never ending cycle!

      @superbattleshipyamato
      I happen to really like 1941 as well. Mine is heavily customised with pieces, ancillaries and house rules which makes it great fun. I’ve never attempted the G40 game (though I own a set). I would say though, as far as historicity goes, that from what I’ve seen in G40, Spain always seems to get used as an Allied staging post where in fact Franco’s Spain was a strict neutral with Axis sympathies. Also, there always appears to be a stockpile race between Japan in Burma and the UK in the middle east. Both of these scenarios are far from the way the actual war played out.

      They were selling a really nice Tiger sculpt (even better than the 1941 sculpt) over at historicalboardgaming.com. I bought 12. I’m not sure if they are still available though.

      @thedesertfox
      I’ve done 8 battleships and 8 carriers for both the USA and Japan. Probably half that for everyone else. I’ve done probably 20 fighters for each as well.
      That 1941 set is a nightmare in terms of limited pieces. I ended up combining 2 sets but since then I’ve swapped a lot of pieces out for the unique, nation specific sculpts. I actually like the 1941 game for its simplicity though. The fact that you can’t build IC’s actually keeps navies relevant for the whole game. (Particularly for Japan).

      @thedesertfox
      I’ve painted all my pieces so I wanted to make sure I did enough. Battleships were my main concern as Japan and USA can end up in an arms race in the Pacific and when you go to the battleboard for the more complicated battles it gets awkward assigning hits to units that are denoted by chips.

      @iwillnevergrowup Are these still available? If so how much would 6 of them cost? Are they the same size as the anniversary edition boxes?

    • RE: G1 Egypt Attack

      @smoke I absolutely agree. I played a solo game recently and was able to afford a carrier and another fighter with Italy, meaning there was no early threat to its navy. This is a game changer. The British ships that are left don’t appear to have any real impact on the game.
