      One from the glorious Foxnews that is widely touted as being top dog on here?

      I never said you did…and it is for this reason I must depart this board. In light of recent events it seems that Jen can bash people all day long but if you stoop to her level then it is you that reaps the punishment. I made some good friends and wish you all the best in what ever you do.

      I hope you look at the timelines I posted as well…and really, this is from a opinion column from a guy recounting what one person’s view is, not basing it off factual timelines…enjoy your little story here, I bet I could post one quoting a national guardmen’s who has been through just as many hurricanes stating the response time was horrid, has nothing to do with the price of tea in China.

      That’s settled, we will declare Iraq the new Mexico, and we will start the invasion of Chicago, which shall here by be known as “TERRORIST HARDCORE ESCAPE FROM CHICAGO DEATH CITY 2000”

      For that matter let’s abandon Korea too and look at invading Detriot and DC as the crime rate in these two cities makes TERRORIST HARDCORE ESCAPE FROM CHICAGO DEATH CITY 2000 look like…well Newer Mexico.

      There were calls for investigation by the Democratic party the day after. And I realize it takes time to get supplies together, but does it take 4 days to get there - the main motorcade got there on Friday, the storm went mainland on Monday night.

      http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/katrina-timeline.php

      You can continue to blame the local government all day long, but looking at this timeline, the Gov of LA declared a national disaster state on Saturday, before the storm hit land, Bush freeing up the fed. funds two days later…sort of makes your remarks wrong now about the local folks not asking for help in time?

      And since you will declare that site “liberal media”:

      http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168413,00.html

      Now please show me where it took 6 days to get supplies into an area they could land planes, drive into and otherwise get aid to quickly re: Florida.

      Well when has Dubya not had to put his foot in his mouth…really he shouldn’t have any staff writers with some of the gems he has tossed out there.

      “First, we would not accept a treaty that would not have been ratified, nor a treaty that I thought made sense for the country.” —George W. Bush, on the Kyoto accord, April 24, 2001

      “It’s very important for folks to understand that when there’s more trade, there’s more commerce.” —George W. Bush, at the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City

      “Neither in French nor in English nor in Mexican.” —President Bush, on not taking questions at a photo opportunity with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien

      “This administration is doing everything we can to end the stalemate in an efficient way. We’re making the right decisions to bring the solution to an end.” —George W. Bush, April 10, 2001

      Typical spoils-system appointment.

      Very correct…and I am not bashing Bush per se with this comment as I am sure you have a ton of this with any appointed officials, but some of those guys I work with are just plain dumb. They might be good press faces but the common sense level or lack there of amazes me with a few of them.

      at least you don’t have drive by shootings every day in almost every neighborhood, or multiple rapes each night, or helpless policemen that would rather take bribes then stand up for the victims and arrest the criminals, etc.

      Instead you have roadside bombs instead of drive by’s, shoots all day and night and I haven’t heard it reported but I am sure there are plenty of women being treated poorly over there. And if you want to talk about a corrupt police force come on…

      Since you won’t try to stop comparing the two I pose this question - if Iraq is such a walk in the park why do we still need troops over there? Hell it sounds like a vacation hot spot, should I start looking at group rates?

    • RE: FEMA Chief - a liar too?

      I blame FEMA because it’s their job…not anything else but to work with national emergencies…so it’s all well and fine to point out the local govt lost their top and didn’t do a good job, but to take 4 days for FEMA to organize a response is flat out unacceptable.

      And whats this may or may not have had foreknowledge of the incident? You have a computer machine with that weather thingy right? I believe they might have a slightly more advanced version of that and could tell at least 48 hours before it hit land they might want to brace for the worst.

      And the “they could have used all those school buses” remark is worthless - if the levee’s don’t break, New Orleans doesn’t flood like that and the people that “cowered” ( for real Jen, that was pretty cold and low, did you expect them to take up guns and fight the hurricane or something? ) but the levee’s did break and no one really thought they would. Granted they should have assumed they would and that fault is solely on the local govt.
      But FEMA’s job is to respond and fix national disasters and they failed this time around, Michael Brown’s resignation I hope shows FEMA is taking that blame.

      had to worry about no less then 50 times as much landmass

      Were there cat. 4 hurricanes headed for the rest of the landmass where they had to divert all attention away from the Gulf Coast?

      Sounds like a stupid remark written by some uneducated staff member who should be fired for ineptitude

      You wouldn’t believe some of the morons who work in the Press Office and the Presidential Speech Office…I was in there installing a new keyboard for someone who didn’t understand that eating greasy food and then typing made your keyboard gross asked me how to spell Minnesota. I for one will fully admit my spelling skills lack very much, but I get paid to fix computers not WRITE SPEECHES FOR THE FRECKIN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. I was floored, showed him how to spell it, taught him to pronounce it just like it sounds in his head so in the future he would be set and didn’t bother to point out how to use spell check 😉 Have to keep the contract getting money somehow right?

      So should we invade the Windy City then? It almost seems you are making a good reason for it…and with your stating most of the nation guard from Illinois and Kentucky are deployed already in the beach resort that is Iraq then it should be a push over…

      This was sarcasm…I still can’t believe you are really trying to show that the City with Too Many Nicknames is just the same as the peace keeping mission/conflict/war/not a war that is Iraq…

      Your comment was perfectly civil Jen, no question about that at all. But I had this sneaking feeling for some odd reason you would say you didn’t make with the hide teh pickle action because of religion and you proved me right.

      Now I was going to sit here and say alot of things the bible says to do and NOT to do but you would brush those off so I won’t…but for what it’s worth if you really held out for 5 years of dating until you were married then more power to you, not too many people can hold that type of conviction any more.

      @Jennifer:

      We didn’t have sexual relations because it’s specifically laid out in the Bible as a sin. He and I both agreed on it, but at the time, we were both away from each other for extended periods of time, him in the Navy and myself away at college. So it really wasn’t as hard as you’d think…not like if we went on 5 dates a week, you know.

      And there it is…thanks Stuka 😉

      @stuka:

      @Jennifer:

      New Orleans had plenty of money to rebuilt the levvies properly, they didn’t need FEMA’s cash, they never did…well, if their government wouldnt have embezzelled it all they wouldn’t have.

      And where did you find out that they had this magical money all along, Jen? I am begging you, Jen.

      BTW, I read in a very important journal that the Chicago area has the worst reaction time for any emergency. Hmmm…

      I found out from Neil Schmidt who was a resident of New Orleans and had been paying that tax for well over 12 years by the time the hurricane hit. Based on what he paid percentage wise and then applying that to the total population at the average income for the area, you can figure out easily that they had millions if not billions “set aside” to fix the levvies up proper and evacuate the city.

      Well Bob Smith who lived in Texas his whole life and ate eggs there told me Bush was a thief and never registered with selective service, so that must be true.

      I saw a bum take a piss all over the place right outside the Ellipse, should we go to war here with the homeless people? Besides with people like you over here screaming “screw the French” every chance you get I wonder why they hate us and would do things like that.

      My hope is there is a bit more scrutiny with future appointments to positions such as this. I realize no one can do much about them, but still…with the hurricane we once again realized that the US is no immune to disasters and tragedy like we grow comfortable thinking, and need people in place to react and react with intelligence when they occur.

    • FEMA Chief - a liar too?

      Here is Michael Brown’s Official Bio at the FEMA site:

      http://www.fema.gov/about/bios/brown.shtm

      Quote incase it get’s changed:

      Michael D. Brown was nominated by President George W. Bush as the first Under Secretary of Emergency Preparedness and Response in the newly created Department of Homeland Security in January 2003. As the head of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Under Secretary Brown leads federal disaster response and recovery operations and coordinates disaster activities with more than two dozen federal agencies and departments and the American Red Cross. He also oversees the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration, and initiates proactive mitigation activities.

      Additionally, Under Secretary Brown helps the Secretary of Homeland Security ensure the effectiveness of emergency responders, and directs the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Integration Center, the National Disaster Medical System and the Nuclear Incident Response Team.

      Under Secretary Brown has led Homeland Security’s response to more than 164 presidentially declared disasters and emergencies, including the 2003 Columbia Shuttle disaster and the California wildfires in 2003. In 2004, Mr. Brown led FEMA’s thousands of dedicated disaster workers during the most active hurricane season in over 100 years, as FEMA delivered aid more quickly and more efficiently than ever before.

      Previously, Mr. Brown served as FEMA’s Deputy Director and the agency’s General Counsel. Shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks, Mr. Brown served on the President’s Consequence Management Principal’s Committee, which acted as the White House’s policy coordination group for the federal domestic response to the attacks. Later, the President asked him to head the Consequence Management Working Group to identify and resolve key issues regarding the federal response plan. In August 2002, President Bush appointed him to the Transition Planning Office for the new Department of Homeland Security, serving as the transition leader for the EP&R Division.

      Prior to joining FEMA, Mr. Brown practiced law in Colorado and Oklahoma, where he served as a bar examiner on ethics and professional responsibility for the Oklahoma Supreme Court and as a hearing examiner for the Colorado Supreme Court. He had been appointed as a special prosecutor in police disciplinary matters. While attending law school he was appointed by the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee of the Oklahoma Legislature as the Finance Committee Staff Director, where he oversaw state fiscal issues. His background in state and local government also includes serving as an assistant city manager with emergency services oversight and as a city councilman.

      Mr. Brown was also an adjunct professor of law for the Oklahoma City University.

      A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration/Political Science from Central State University, Oklahoma. He received his J.D. from Oklahoma City University’s School of Law.

      And a interesting article at Time.com:

      This should lead to some interesting fall out…
