    • RE: Still Playin?

out of the box rules take way too long since the tournament rules have been out that is all I’ve used. I really hope for a 2nd edition too. Bigger map,a few more unit types(heavy artillery,Bombers.) and Romania and possibly Bulgaria added as individual powers. This game and Anniversary are my favorite ones.

    • RE: Balancing 1914

I do agree with you Flash we only play for about 6 hours. At that point we kind of come to an agreement who is the victor or call it a draw. I am with you that there should be a victory point system it would make achieving victory easier to calculate. After having multiple cocktails and the combat fatigue of playing this you sometimes lose track of what it takes for all of the countries to collapse.

I know you want to fix the OOB but I have found the tournament rules even this thing up quite a bit. I do think the game would have been better with more production zones per country and more victory city’s. We have had more central victories with the tourney rules because of the collapse system that Larry has come up with. I really like this game and hope he does an upgrade with new units and a bigger map. Cool game.

    • RE: Wizard of the coast is sending out additional playing pieces

Got mine last week I put in the request on Dec 8th. I hope in the future this doesn’t happen again. Think of the time and manpower that was wasted fixing this when had they added a few more pieces. At least they made it right. I just wonder if this game will get a 2nd edition. I like the way it works I think the tournament rules are great. Played it 3 weeks ago with the guys looking forward to the next game.

    • RE: Holland

The only neutral I attack is Switzerland for the Centrals. Persia for the allies. Don’t waste units if you don’t have to. Not to mention Holland then becomes the stepping stone for the British to invade Europe.

Did you play with the tournament rules? I don’t think it will take that long if you do.

I called them and talked to Josh and he said it would be 5 to 10 business days. It is at 10 days now curious when they will show.

    • RE: How long has this defective game been out & still no definitive Rules changes?

I don’t agree with Shakespeare’s point but I definitely agree that these games are leaving a lot to be desired. Not just from a rules perspective but from a piece perspective. Battle board is tiny. No money and lack of German infantry and chips for both sides. I have played with the new tournament rules however and do love them. If you have the game Shakespeare give them a shot I really like them. I think you will too.

Unfortunately Shakespeare I think they still are doing that. Unlike 8 alpha versions I believe(I don’t know) they are reviewing these issues and listening to the community. I completely agree with you this game should have been playtested more but I think with a few more tweaks this will be the best game. I really like the way it plays it’s just a matter of making it the best it can be. Lets hope that happens.

    • RE: I declare this forum dead

Maybe there should be no collapses until turn 3 this would alleviate Italy bowing out so early. Same with Ottomans. It would also represent these countries after a few years of war if they are losing giving up on the effort which was historically accurate.

    • RE: Larry Harris 1914 Tournament Rules ( "potential rules" using his language)

Used these rules over the weekend I like them. The Centrals went after Russia and they had an almost impossible job of stopping them. While doing this they could easily keep the Allies at bay in the West. I belive Russia could add 3inf and maybe an artillery in Russia. Just my thoughts. Other than that these rules are superior to OOB. I am glad Larry has updated them.

    • RE: Already Looking Forward to 1914 2nd Edition

I agree with you Ryguy completely. I have no problem with people who want to purchase multiple copies for their own benefit but to actually HAVE to purchase more than one game to actually play 1 is LUNACY to me. The sad fact is it wouldn’t have taken many more pieces to get the game we wanted. A total cost to them of about 3 dollars maybe.
If they do an updated version I hope it is truly updated.

      Better movement system
      More and better pieces
      Money
      Bigger map

    • RE: A nation of shopkeepers defeats Europe's greatest general today in 1815\.

I am not sure Napoleon was ever really himself after the Russian campaign. What he expected after his victory at Borodino and what really turned out was very different. Expecting the Russians to surrender only having them chase him all the way back to France may have put some doubt in his mind. Maybe that doubt is what affected his decisions at a place like Waterloo. I know in sports that if you loose your confidence it can be hard to get back. I imagine the same could be said about war generals. Just a thought. Enjoyed the post.

    • RE: The last battle

The Last Battle I am familiar with was written by Cornelius Ryan who also wrote A Bridge Too Far and The Longest Day. I read the Last Battle twice it was a fantastic read. All of it is actual accounts of people from generals, civilians and soldiers who were somehow involved in the Battle for Berlin. Check it out guys you will love it.
