    • RE: Was the Taranto raid overlooked?

      @Marshmallow:

      @JDOW:

      Sorry, but… no! ;)

      Sorry, but yes.

      @JDOW:

      I personally like both, Taranto or stacking fleet in 92 with no Taranto, however hiding fleet in the red sea is objectively bad (especially as Italy can cut them off then through Suez), so is the common overated middle east play. UK must bother Germany from 110. Total middle east and med focus plays into the German hands.

      How are you going to cut the UK out of the Med on I1 if the UK destroys blockers to sea zones 96 and 99? Are you planning to take Trans Jordan during the non-combat round? Or with that German transport that mysteriously appeared in the Med?

      You can clear the blockers on I1, but you can’t lock the UK out because you can’t take Trans Jordan. On UK2 the UK moves back into sea zone 98 and places a build of one carrier and two destroyers. The UK fleet now has two loaded carriers, five destroyers (six once the French destroyer reaches sea zone 98), and at least one cruiser (two if the sea zone 91 cruiser was used as a blocker on UK1).

      The combined Italian fleet and air force cannot handle that fleet – depending on UK1, I1, and UK2 Italian losses they may not even be able to dent it. The only way the Axis can destroy that UK fleet is to sacrifice the Luftwaffe. Good luck getting Moscow if you do that!

      If you don’t sacrifice the Luftwaffe, the UK has won the Med. Egypt is safe, the Italian fleet dies on UK3 or runs far away (outside the Med far!), Italy’s income gets convoyed away starting on UK4 at the latest, and the UK starts ferrying fighters to Moscow on UK4. The Italian ground troops in Africa die at the UK’s convenience.

      So yeah, sea zone 81 works nicely. I stand by my position that this is the strongest UK play in the Med.

      Marsh

      I’m with JDOW on this. The Italians can take Trans Jordan with their transport unless UK puts blockers but the would just get kill by the Italians or the Luftwaffe and that would weaken the UK’s Med fleet. If UK purchased 1 carrier and 2 destroyers R2 that would totally give Germany the best opportunity to do a Sea Lion with taking fewer casualties than normal. You have a nice idea but it would only work on beginners (no offense). Because I’m a moderate player and I see a flaw in your strategy.

    • RE: Sea Lion

      I don’t think Germany should do Sea Lion for a few reasons.

      You spend a lot of resources taking London and eventually America will liberate London because if you try defend it that takes a good amount of ipcs. Another reason is Russia can get strong and since you spent lots of ipcs on Sea Lion you don’t have enough to go take Moscow or even threaten it. Which takes a long time for you to do that which gives time for UK to rebuild once liberated and the US would threaten to land forcing troops to protect which again makes it harder for you to take Moscow and eventually the allies gain the advantage and so on unless Japan does really well. So in the end I think Sea Lion isn’t worth it but I think you can do a Sea Lion bluff and do Barbarossa. Now there could be a strategy which Sea Lion is played.

    • RE: 1914 Biplanes for WW 2

      Here’s my thoughts with bringing biplanes in the game is that they were use as renaissance planes so maybe could do a combine arms with a artillery like….

      Artillery attack and/or defense is boosted up to 3 when paired with a biplane.

      Or what you said about being a torpedo bomber like it can only ships and maybe aircraft with an attack of 3(?) and defense of 2(?). I am not disagreeing with your idea but these are my thoughts on biplanes. Good topic.

      I like making it impassible. But I think if you allow only inf still increase the worth of switzerland making it look less desireble to invade.

      Great videos YG, I own 1940 europe 2nd edition and the factories are really annoying to pick up. But since you pointed out that you can use monopoly cottages and hotels as factories I am starting to use them and its much easier to use and I also use monopoly money its much easier to use then paper and pencil. Again great videos. :-D

      BTW when is your japan run through coming out?

    • RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first

      Even though the game by itself didn’t come with enough pieces (like the German inf) and the map could be a bit bigger and split some territories (like Ukraine) and it favors the allies most of the time it is still an awesome game. With a few modifications this could be an amazing game. I also like it because it is the first A&A that is not WW2 it good to be different sometimes.

    • RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first

      I think why Italy doesn’t really fall that much is because GB is easily going to push the Ottomans back to Constantinople where they are going to need ally help so this will draw AH troops away from Italy and if AH does threaten Rome thats when US start to even the odds in Italy and they get push back out of Italy and by that time Constantinople has fallen and AH finds itself in a terrifying place with Brits coming from the south and US/Italians coming from the west and outnumbered.

    • RE: Neutrals - what do you do?

      Another idea is have a certain amount of units able to enter Switzerland like 4(or something else) or have only infantry(maybe artillery) able to enter.(since of the mountains)

      Another problem for me is that Serbia’s army is 4 units and thats annoying because for how much Serbia did for the allies. But Albania also has 4 units and Albania didn’t do very much so my house rule is…

      Serbia is worth 3 and every round it survives it gains a free infantry.(this makes sure that AH doesn’t only send a few units)

      Albania is worth 1 and is strict neutral.

      I’m also wondering if Bulgaria should gain a free infantry every round when it is activated.

      Many people say that Switzerland should be impassable or increase their number of defense units without change Switzerland’s value.

    • RE: Russia - no matter what the end is the same?

      I think the most unbalance part if the game is how GB can build unlimited troops in India. Ottomans are like the worst CP to be unless Britain doesn’t do much in the Middle East which is really unlikely(unless its a noob). So add house rules to balance it out. My House rule is GB can only build 6 units and can’t build tanks there. This is a good number its not too little for the Ottomans to grow huge and its not too big for GB to over power them and GB can’t use tanks to easily take Constantinople. This gives the Ottomans a bit more freedom to do more like help take the Balkans quicker and help defeat Russia faster, than always on defense and not do much help for your allies than distract GB. I think this really gives the CPs a bigger chance to win.

    • RE: Russian Revolution question

      @legion3:

      OK, so the RR is triggered and accepted.

      Russia is out of the war.

      Russian troops remain in place wherever they are and are frozen, (setting up local Soviets I assume) they can defend if attacked but otherwise that’s it. Correct?

      CP controlled Russian territories remain controlled by the CP and the $ is now the loot of the CP who owns it.  Correct?

      If the British attack into Russia from India or wherever, can they fight the Russians? Take income from them? I see no rule that suggests they can’t.

      IF so, and you allow unlimited British builds in India, the CP will have to garrison the Eastern area.

      Can they liberate Moscow?  If they do what happens? Simply British get 6 ipc’s or can Russia get back into the war?

      1. You are wrong. Russia has to remove all their units from the board unless if a territory is being contested, Russia has to leave 1 infantry to represent that the territory is being contested and the CPs has to do the same, but the rest of the units in the terrritory can leave it and Russia cannot participate in any battles.

      2. Your are correct on this.

      3. The allies cannot go into any russian territories(including contested) except for the territories controlled by the CPs which they can take over that territory they invaded but not liberate. So they cannot fight the Russians

      4. The allies cannot liberate Moscow but can take over it if the CPs took it over.

      I hope that was helpful I’m sure someone else can correct on something I did wrong.

    • Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first

      So I realize that even if you can whack France its still really hard to win let me explain why. I was doing a play test game and Germany’s plan was to kill France first and they were very successful and they captured Paris and I thought the CPs were going to win but then AH kept finding itself on the defense which made Russia in a good position to defend itself and the Ottomans were soon to fall so back to my point. Germany kept having to send troops to defend Paris and couldn’t be aggressive against Russia. So with one ally left which who was trying to survive they then began to loose and they did.

      So my point is that you have to kill Russia first no matter what or you will fail as CPs because you will keep on sending troops to defend Paris and also Russia can take on AH by itself and can help quickly taking out the Ottomans with the British. Does anyone have any arguments or ideas?

    • RE: Japan's response to KJF

      Reason I voted for all land is because if all you build is navy then how are you going to make money? If there’s no backup for Japan in asia then the allies will push Japan out of asia (GB will mostly do this with India) then you can’t out produce US in navy especially if you lose your fleet in sz 37. Also if you do half land and half navy because the navy will likely be destroyed by the US navy because they are mostly building ships so they will out number your ships real quickly.
