    • RE: Historical Flaws of the US Democrat and Republican parties..

      @Yanny:

      The Democrats basically went “Don’t elect us and we leave the Union”, causing the civil war.

      The Republicans during the 1920s set up the Great Depression.

      Actually the Dmoecrats split into two parties in the election of Lincoln. To southerners the election of Lincoln was the ultimate offense against them because he was for making new states free soil. The Republicans of the 19th century were the more progressive and liberal party and the Democrats of the 19th century were the more conservative party. Nowadays that seems to have reversed.

      @Janus1:

      :roll: this really ranks among the stupidest lawsuits, and there are some stupid lawsuits

      The Jews could also counter-sue against the Egyptians that the gold and utensils were payment for their service as slaves. The Jews weren’t paid at all for their work and after 430 years of slavery (not including until modern times) the Egyptians owe compensation to former slaves. Let’s not forget compensation for throwing Jewish males into the Nile. That was mass murder on Pharoah’s part and surely the Egyptians have to pay for that.

    • RE: The US tries to rule the world… but chaos seems to follow

      @sherman28:

      I really don’t think that the United Nations is a measure of generosity.
      Pleas don’t give me that the US hasn’t paid its dues (which IS true).
      US foreign aid makes up a goodly chunk of the Federal budget.
      I would like to know who you feel contributes more. I can tell you
      US $$ aid to help defeat AIDS in Africa is MORE than the rest of the world combined. That seems pretty generous.

      Viet Nam I WILL go there my friend. This is a topic I am not afraid to defend. You did not answer the question. Which was “do you really beleive that the Gov’t of Nvn was democratic.”
      The morality of communism is a different issue but I am happy also to
      discuss it.

      Somalia- there was a small UN releif force there that was shot at and bullied around by warlords until the US Marines went there to sort it out!
      Where is the selfishness?

      Ethiopia- the US took control of a crumbling UN releifg effort in 1987.
      the people stopped starving where is the self interest?

      Kuwait- We liberated their county and haven’t (as usual) asked for payment
      where is the selfishness?

      Serbia- The US took command of a weak Nato comiittment and in 80 days of air and missle strikes toppled Milosevic and insured the World Court would try him for War crimes. Where is the selfishness?

      Iraq-Hey we finished the job that we should have finished a while ago.
      The Mass graves un covered made me think back to WW2 and conjured up names like Belsen, Auschwitz Buchenwald. You can go there and
      if you don’t understand the meaning of “all that is necesarry for Evil to triumph is for Good Men to do nothing” then you have no heart.

      Whether North Vietnam was a democracy or not is irrelevant. You cannot force a democracy upon people who do not wish to have it and who do not respect it. It will simplycollapse and turn into a dictatorship. Democracy is something that has to evolve over time in societies.

      SOURCE :
      http://www.memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=archives&Area=sd&ID=SP55603

      …thaaat’s right! 5000 years ago those Evil Jew monkeys stole all the gold and jewels in Egypt and the ran away in the middle of the night unbeknowst to the Pharoah.

      1. Isn’t it against the law of all slave owning civilisations for slaves to run away? More charges are pending…

      2. That’s the longest statute of limitations on record… and only if you can read Arabic…or is it 5000 year old Egyptian? Yeah, yeah, that’s it! An even more exclusive club to make it easier to silence the infidels…

      3. Waaaait a minute! Isn’t Pharoah a “living god?” Aren’t gods supposed to be omniscient or does that only apply to the G-D of the Judeo-Christian cultures? Well, the Greek gods were fallable, so I guess…

      First of all, there’s no such thing as Judeo-Chrisitan culture or civilization. Secondly, in that case the Jews should be sueing the Vatican for possession of Jewish artifacts that Titus took to Rome when he destryed the Second Temple in 70 CE. The menorah and other valuables are clearly depicted on the Arch of Titus and the Vatican has never denied having them. Jews should probably also be sueing Ethiopia for possession of the Jewish ark of the covenant which is said to still be there.

      @TG:

      Oh man… Megatron was such a badass. I use to remember seeing him on TV (this was before Beast Wars took over an destroyed the once brilliant Transformers series) and having to wet my pants because he was such a badass. 8)

      I liked the animation of Beast Wars. I think Mainframe is planning on re-creating the original Transformers with their better animation.

    • RE: Help with a Star Trek A&A variant

      @UKcommander:

      Also, E.G., I must disagree with your comment about the Federation only worrying about the defense of Earth, even though Betazed is not one of the Federation’s capitals, it is a major planet, and was taken by the Dominion. Plus, I believe increased patrols occured in all Federation capitals and major planets.

      I don’t know about making the Federation having to research some of their most powerful ships. Plus, Ambassador classes, although used partly in the war, were decommisioned, I believe, when the Galaxy-class was introduced.

      Also, I’m not real sure about the DS9 rule that you mentioned. One of the great things about Axis and Allies, at least this is what I think, is that you can change history. The DS9 rule would take this away from the game.

      Yet when the Federation ws going to liberate DS9 Starfleet Command only mentioned the defence of Earth as a concern and not any other planet. This is not to say that the other planets are not important, it is just that since Eart hsi the capital of the Federation it is the most pivital planet for the Federation to hold.

      True, you can change history, but even Axis & Allies has some historical realism to it. This rule would simply make DS9 an important base to hold. You can also make the rule expire if the Federation liberates DS9. Therefor, if the Dominion re-take the station again, the rule no longer applies. You could also make the time limit rather large to allow the Federation a bit of breathing room.

      The AI is horrendously terrible in Iron Blitz. All the bugs from the original are still there unfortunately. Iron Blitz would be very good for multiplayer, especially with the built-in scenarios and scenarioeditor.

    • RE: Take Spain

      @haxorboy:

      If you are in the position to throw 8 troops on the Europe mainland and want them to count, then Spain is an excellant option esp. if the UK can’t hold the waters around them for a landing in Norway. And you would be surprised how much this throws the Ger. strat all to the way side if the US starts up a train of 8 troops per round landing in Spain, WE falls pretty quick and then it is just a matter of time.

      And if the UK cannot hold out for landings in Norway, what stops the Germans from pounding the transports used to attack Spain when the troops land into nothing and forcing the Allies to completely rebuild the transports they need to funnel troops to Europe? If the Japanese are advancing in the east, Germany can just being to build up for an invasion of Spain while the US and Britain have to rebuild those transports (losing 4 of them is quite a bit of troops lost).

      yet Spain had the youngest general since Napoleoin, Franco, who was very competent.

      In this game you act as the general

      Canada could be an option, but I either see them as too weak or giving the Allies too much of an advantage. What does adding Canada as a country offer to game? It serves the same function as UK (and you don’t really want two powers doing the same thing). Of course you could add an element by forcing UK to act mainly on South East Asia.

      Canada would convoy troops to Britain. If Canadian transports are destroyed, a rule could be added that the Allies all lose IPCs.

    • RE: Adding China…

      @Zhukov_2003:

      the problem of adding china is that china was split into the nationalists and the communists, making enemys to each other, if china is added the commies would have to be russia and the nationalists would have to be the US, which might cause some bad relations between russia and the US,

      china would probaly be boring to play since they would be economically inferior to japan, also if china is added, they would probaly not be that powerful because after 10 years of war between japan and china, 20,000,000 chinese were killed.

      Yet China still have over a billion people so 20 million for them was not a lot. Also, the Chinese presented a united front against the Communists during World War 2 so they would not have to be split. The USSR did not give aid to the Communists. In fact, Stalin signed a Treaty with Chiang Kai-shek.

      Adding Canada is another possibility. Canada could become the principal supplier of forces to Britain while the United States could focus on fighting Japan in the pacific.

      superior industry? I never got any indication of that.

      Congquing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Mukden, Harbin, Shengyang, Nanking, Tsingtao, Peking etc. were all controlled by the Nationalists and had facotries. Mao’s forces were bottled up in the plains in northern China yet still won the war. In comparison, Chiang was much more powerful than Mao in terms of industrial resources.

    • RE: Adding China…

      @MistaBiggs:

      How about giving China the following territories:

      1. China (of course) - raise IPC value to 4
      2. French Indo-China Burma - IPC value of 3
      3. Sinkiang - raise IPC value to 3
      4. Add Mongolia - IPC value of 2

      Could also alter Japan’s territories to make up for the lost IPC’s … something like the following:

      1. Change IPC value of Manchuria to 4
      2. Change IPC value of New Guinea to 2
      3. Change IPC value of Borneo Celebes to 2
      4. Change IPC value of Solomon Islands to 1
      5. Change IPC value of Caroline Islands to 1
      6. Change IPC value of Wake Island to 1

      Comments?

      There’s one problem with this that I can see. The Democratic Republic of Mongolia was part of the Comintern and allied to the USSR, not to China even after the communists took over China. I would add Chongquing, Chiang Kai-Shek’s capital, in between Sinkiang and China to make attacking the capital difficult. I can come up with an altered map, if you like.

      Spain was a weak country economically and man-power wise, so I wouldn’t consider it a axis power. However a Spain-France Nation might work (with the addition of Italy maybe)

      They were underequipped and undersupplied :-? Notice when I talk about economy I said numbers AND production. If the Chinese nationalists were better equipped, no doubt they would’ve bleed the Japanese (Zeros vs. nothing does not make for a very good arguement)

      I was talking about the Chinese Civil War after World War 2. Chiang Kai-Shek’s superior industry and numbers over the communists did not help him secure victory.

    • RE: NA Power Blackout Toronto/Detroit/Cleveland/NYC…

      @El:

      Emu_,
      When you learn your history as well as Yanny has after being educated(read as “assaulted”) by Xi(and then again by moi) we can discuss this topic logically.

      El Jefe’s notes : Ronald Reagan passed the largest tax cut in US history(1776-2003) in 1981(with the people’s approval, but the grudging support of a Democrat House and Senate.) The Reagan economic boom lasted from 1982 until 1998. There was a minor recesssion(1991-1992) during the GHW Bush Administration, however it was ending(Oct., 1992), before the election, but too late for the #s to get out, even while William Jefferson Blythe Clinton carped “It’s the economy, stupid!”(Great presidental words!)

      President Clinton’s administration did little to nothing to help the economy(which actually was helpful.) President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton passed the largest tax increase in US history(1776-2003) in 1993(with the people’s disapproval, but the gleeful support of a Democrat House and Senate.)

      From before 1998 to today the defunct Clinton Administration has claimed that the economy was great until after “Slick Willie”(You know what a ‘willie’ is doncha? You know why Clinton’s is ‘slick’ doncha? Just another indication of his character…) left office.

      In 2000, during the election campaign, economists examining the Clinton-touted economy numbers found and published proof that President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton and his administration had fudged the numbers since 1998. The economy had been going sour since the third quarter of 1998. Slick Willie and his administration lied about the US economy for the last two years of Clinton’s service “to protect and defend the constitution of he United States.”

      Yet the economy was good from 1992 until the beginning of 1998. To know not to make changes to somethign that works also requires a level of competence, IMHO.

      If you want to discuss scandals in American history, I’m sure you can find them in almost every president’s administration. Does that make them all incompetent fools? If they successfully covered it up and are remembered in history as good presidents, then they must have some sense of intelligence.

      whether or not Bush is incompetent is inconsequential as to whether or not Clinton was.

      Actually, is it consequential as El Jefe was calling Clinton incompetent in his defence of Bush.

    • RE: What decided WWII?

      Actually, that’s not true. Mao Zedong did not get aid from Stalin. He used guerilla warfare to wear down the Nationalist troops which outnumbered him 5 to 1 and slowly began to win the sympathy of the people and ruined Chiang’s popularity or lack thereof among the people. Chiang’s soldiers began abandoning him and sided with Mao. Chiang also got aid from the United States, but even with that he failed.

      Another example is the French in Indo-China. Though 75% their war costs were paid for by the Americans, they still lost to the guerillas which they outnumbered and outgunned. But then again, the French in wars are never a good example since the last time they won a war was in the French Revolution when they fought each other.

    • RE: Help with a Star Trek A&A variant

      @UKcommander:

      Also, what do you think about giving the Romulans two capitals, Romulus and Remus? I know they are extremely close to each other, but still, they are the Romulans capital planets. However, that would probably mean that I would have to give the UFP four capitals (Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Alpha Centauri) and the Dominion two (Founder Homeworld and the Vorta homeworld). What do you think? Thanks for your interest and the compliments. Sorry for any spelling mistakes.

      Only give the Romulans two capitals because for the Romulans both planets are significant. For the Federation during the Dominion War, Starfleet was only worried about a Dominion assault on Earth, not on Vulcan or any of those other worlds.

      I would suggest allowing the Federation, Klingons and Dominion to research improved ships. Give the Federation Galaxy, Excelsior, Nebula, Ambassador etc. classes first, with Steamrunners, Akiras and Sovereigns etc. researchable.

      Also, make a timelimit for when the Dominion controls Deep Space Nine, say, 12 turns. If the Federation does not liberate DS9 within those 12 turns, then for every round after that, the Dominion get a few ships as reinforcements for successfully destroying the minefield. You should also have starbases as repair areas and maybe you can incorporate torpedoes as weaponry that can be carried and fired by starships.
