Wanted: Cruisers or Destroyers in Red/Green/Tan/Grey/Black
I am looking for cruisers or destroyers in Red, Green, Tan, Grey, and Black for the Axis and Allies board game.
I already have one set of ships that are probabyl cruisers, but I need another different set of ship in these colors so that one set is cruisers and one set is destroyers.
I have a ton of Axis and Allies borad game parts in many colors to trade, or I can pay for your extra parts.
Thanks!
Craig

Board Game Geek - November 2007
I’ll be bringing Jeff Stein’s "The War Game’, Positronica’s “Global Conflict” and the TripleA version of “Big World: 1942” to Board Game Geek (BGG) in November 2007.
Anyone want to play a game?

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
In our 4 games, the Japanese have not exanded into Siberia/Russia. There is little income there. The usual path is to take China, India, and all the South Pacific Islands. In one game the Japanese took Australia.
At least in our games, a Japanese Soviet non-aggression pact would have no effect.
Is it the usual Japan expanding west into Siberia/Russia?
How about trying it with a Japanese/Soviet non-aggression pact?

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
I’ve played Positronica’s map 4 times now. It is a great and balanced game. The axis have won twice, and the Allies have won twice.
However, the Japanese start out way too strong. They are so strong, it is not worth the allies even trying to fight the Japanese. The only way for the allies to win is to defeat Germany before the Japanese conquer the world. When the allies basically ignore the Japanese, we might as well be playing A&A Europe, because nothing that happens in the Pacific matters. Its all about killing the Germans before the Japanese take over the world.
I think the Japanese need to lose a Battleship, Carrier, 2 or 3 destroyers, and 3 or 4 fighters to make things more interesting in the Pacific.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
There are about 185 territories. If the total remains 250, there will be many zero and one dollar valued areas. This will cause significant ‘rounding’ of the numbers. A higher total may be better with the number of territories.
BTW, we are playing Posotrinics map on Tuesdays. Very good game.

Ocean Color Change Request:
Please remove some red from the ocean to make it look more blue. I printed the Positronica map, and didn’t realize how purple looking the ocean was until it printed. Examining the original ocean texture, I see a plenty of red. I think if the red is toned down, the ocean will look more blue, which may be more attractive.

CraigBee,
300 IPCs is too high but 328 is ok? What changed your mind?Initialy I like the lower number. However, after reading DH’s suggestions, they look very close to adding AAE and AAP together. I fear with the lower number, we might see Germany and Russia battling on the easter front for a very low dollar amount. I am guessing that after populating the board, the higher number will give more appropriate incentive for the axis to aggressively attack.

@Deaths:
Thanks Craig Bee
I have extensively play tested on original map. I truly believe that these will be appropriate totals for each country.
It also allows for a 7th player if needed(China) to go simutaniously with the US. I literally have somewhere between 20 -30 games played already on the old Positronica map. Both the allies and the Axis Powers have won several times. The US even fell once to Japan. HeHe, I was Japan. :evil:What has changed on the map that would make you recommend 9 extra income for the axis?

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
I like Death Head’s suggestions. I compared it to the original map, and like the slightly higher Axis income. Here is the comparison:
Original USA 85, DH USA + China: 85
UK same at 75
Russia original 44, DH 45
Original Germany 50, DH 54
Original Italy 24, DH 25
Original Japan 40, DH 45Original Allies total 204, DH 205 for a 1 point increase.
Original Axis 114, DH 123 for a 9 point increase.Deep Blue - Keep up the work, I like where we are going. And someone has to make the final decision, so continue to make them.
If a map and startup graphics are available by Sunday, I will print and play test it for the next 4 Tuesdays. Otherwise I have to wait about 4 months before its my choice of game again with the Tuesday evening play group.

@Deaths:
I have play tested on the original map extensively and I have found that Positronica’s Total IPC production for each country at the begining was very good and balanced.
USA 85 IPC
UK 75 IPC
USSR 44 IPC
Total=204 IPCGermany 50 IPC
Italy 24 IPC
Japan 40 IPC
total= 114 IPC’sSince most of the territories fought over in the first few turns belong to UK, they will be down to around 50-60 IPC’s quickly
UK also has to build for Australia, India and the home Islands, so your UK starting Income is way Low at 51. If you start them at that, UK will be making 30 IPC’s by turn 3. To little too fast.my 2 cents
Death’s Head: How had the map changed since you play tested, and how do you think those changes will effect play?

RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
@Craig:
IL- Has Jeffrey Stein thought about going to Origins to demo the game like he does at Gen Con Indy?
I talked to him briefly at GCI in 2005, but it would seem that he could get in another good opportunity if he went to Origins.
Craig
I emailed Jeff recently about Origins while I was deciding what I would attend. Jeff was not planning on being at Origins. On the other hand, I’ll be at Board Game Geek Con this year, and will almost certainly bring my copy of ‘The War Game’.

RE: The War Game - Massive Axis and Allies Variant
Its a pretty awsome game, even without half tracks :) Its one of my all time favorites. If anyone plans on being in the Kansas City area, send me a PM and we’ll play. Its way to big and complex to PBEM or forum; at least for me.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
I can perform 4 play tests from June 19 Through July 10 and post the results here assuming the game is in a playable state. I play with a group of 4 guys on Tuesdays, and it is my turn to choose games during those dates.
I think 250 might be a good starting point for income. This map is very approximatly the same size as TripleA’s “Big World 1942” (BW42). That map has a total income of 232, so the suggestion of 250 might be a good starting point. The starting incomes in BW42 are Russians 34, Germans 60, British 40, Japanese 38, Americans 50, Chinese 10. If you would like to see a map of BW42, I put it on my web site here: http://www.craig-bartell.com/images/bw42.gif
Oh, and for the love of all that is good, please relocate Paris so Imperious Leader can focus on the game and not small yellow Paris graphic ;)

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
You may not need to increase prices too much. Rather than just consider “more units”, perhaps “units per map space” is more appropriate. I’ve played other A&A variants with larger maps and higher incomes. You need more units to cover the larger map. It might be entirely appropriate to keep the prices the same and allow for larger number of units purchased.

Berlin City Circle
If the Berlin City Circle has no value then neither does London, Washington, Moscow, Etc.
City Circles provide garrison points, last stand locations.
The Berlin circle increases the distance between Berlin and London, limiting direct attacks by either city on one another.
Berlin is not a coastal city. It would be a shame for the German player to lose Berlin (their capital) from an amphibious assault on a map of this detail.
I really like the Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad circles because they boarder on several territories. So do all the circles, except Berlin. I guess that is what makes it different for me. I’m guessing if Germany is lost, but not Berlin, the game is over anyway. Also, is bombing the factory in Berlin any different than bombing the factory in Germany? I don’t think this is a big issue. I was hoping there was something ‘cool’ that I didn’t see about Berlin being there.

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
@Deaths:
Not a fan Of berlin circle either. So Now Is Germany going to get 3 factories because they can no longer build ships out of Berlin space.
I agree. I don’t see what value the extra Berlin circle adds? It seems easier to make Germany worth 14 points and eliminate the Berlin circle. Is there some tactical or strategic play the Berlin circle has that I don’t see?

RE: New Axis & Allies Global War Variant (free map)
Does anyone else like the “OIL†rule addition? Or has “constructive†feedback.
I’m not fond of the various “OIL” rules I’ve seen, but they are very easy to ignore if I don’t want to play with them, so I’ll just remain quiet on the question. :)
