will the old forum still be read only ?

RE: Global War 1940 2nd ed.
yea I’d just stick with what you got for now. While using different means with the global game, having Germany and even Italy a chance to battle in the Atlantic is a good option imo.
What I haven’t done yet is try and steamroll Russia. That’ll be next test. : )
Good action SS and Karl as well for doing the drive : )

RE: New Forum Software Update
Good Action Here : )
Just wanna say that transitioning to a new program can be a bit frustrating at first. My limited experience is when triplea changed, but it’s pretty cool once you dial in. I’m a low IQ computer type, so should be easier for most of you.
One thing I want to point out is how you can make the screen look.
The first one is the default at the triplea site.

RE: Global War 1940 2nd ed.
@SS:
…It took the Japan player on T1 some time to decide where he wanted to go now. Japan has many decisions now to make in Pacific and not sittin on his butt wackin it now ! :-D
heh heh probably had smoke coming out of his ears : ) Can be a real Mind F when trying new stuff sometimes.
Good action here : )

RE: Yes. Another "What if"
yea there were a lot of issues with the Singapore program. I just mentioned the tanks because that was something Churchill did. Obviously if he was dead he wouldn’t have been able to : )
Herman Wouk explains it pretty well in War and Remembrance

RE: Yes. Another "What if"
RE Singapore one thing Winnie couldn’t have done was this:
The Japanese invaded with over 200 tanks, while the British Army in Malaya did not have a single one. Indeed, Churchill himself had diverted some 350 older-model tanks from Malaya to the Soviet Union following the German invasion, as a show of good faith between the Allies. As these older infantry and cruiser tanks were more than a match for the light and medium Japanese tanks used in the invasion of Malaya, their presence could well have turned the tide of battle.https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/daily/wwii/general-percival-a-convenient-scapegoat/
Doesn’t mean whoever was in charge couldn’t have, but if they were at peace with Germany, it seems doubtful.

RE: Oztea's 1941 Global Setup
it’s on triplea
listed on first page the set up here

RE: If Enigma had never been cracked…
probably more deaths and same outcome, but what’s a couple million more to stalin anyway

RE: Japan tank Blitz no more
It was mentioned somewhere, probably multiple places, about having the non coastal Chinese TTs give -1 Movement to all non air M2 units. Seemed like a good idea. I called it “Primitive Terrain” and have found it to work well. Also gave China a AAgun in Szechwan ( oztea’s idea in 41 mod ) and another Flying Tiger in the Philippines.
Also made the majority of Soviet Asia primitive as well.

RE: Global War 1940 2nd ed.
Hi SS
Took a while but I found it. Hello to Baron as well : )
So I can only respond generally, as i haven’t played this kick ass ana version, but using Global 40 as a guideline, I had similar results. Russia was given a little more dough though and that kept things from getting whacked.
The best counter, imo, was using Black Elk’s “Sphere of Influence” where Japan and Russia can’t share territory with anyone, otherwise it’s a minus 10 bucks or w/e is appropriate.
But yea, found the Pacific to be a lot more fun with increased dollars : )

RE: Question about submarines.
No reason to apologize Krieghund, I appreciate the correction.
To think i’ve been playing it wrong all these years :-P
-
RE: Question about submarines.
Is not spam is a question :)
so if sub is attacked by a DD it has to take it’s lumps and then has the choice to shoot back or submerge. If it shoots back, then the DD, if not slayed, gets to attack again ( along with the rest of the gang ).
So sub attacks, surviving defender units fire back. Sub is attacked with no DD, sub can submerge or fire back. Sub attacked with DD, sub has to take a round of shots and then can submerge or fire back.

RE: Guest fighters on aircraft carriers - Do they defend against scrambled fighters?
Hi wryguy
No. It doesn’t. Or at least that’s the way I play : ) The CV initiated the combat and the scramblers are defending against that attack. So yea it
s just cargo. Pretty sure Panther will explain it better.Welcome to the Boards :-)

RE: G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread
@ simon33 Might not be good currently but has awesome possibilities. I’ve been using it with some bonuses. 2 dollar boost from CWOs NO of SZs 123 and 117 being Allied controlled. Also use Elk’s VCs count for a buck.
They can hit after Italy as well. Map looks super cool and a lot of Canadian Players probably would be into it.
Anyway, I think it’s a good thing : )

RE: AA Gun can attack
Hi Baron
yea works the same for shooting at planes. You just get 2 shots instead of 3. Only thing missing imo is there isn’t a mobile version. Maybe make it towable as SS suggests. Or have a self propelled one as well for 5 bucks. Idk.
At any rate, been using them for a couple years now and I like how they work.
-
RE: Kamikaze Clarification
heh heh an actual palne ? Might need to install some AA : )
Yea, you only get 6 Kazis total. If you use them all in one of the Kazi zones, then other zones become Kazi free.
-
RE: AA Gun can attack
I have them at A0 D1 can shoot at 2 planes can take over empty TTs C4. It’s D6 in global. I find I buy them all the time : )
-
RE: Surprise Strike Question
Hi Mikeldalts
#1 would be correct. What the DD does is negate the Subs “First Strike”. So if no DD present and Sub gets a hit, the unit hit can’t fire back. If DD is present it can.
I’m sure Panther or someone else will explain it better. : )
Welcome to the Forum

RE: What are you reading
@Private:
Just finished Six Minutes in May by Nicholas Shakespeare. About Churchill’s promotion to PM despite the debacle in Norway. Forensically strips away Churchill’s obfuscation and lays bare his personal responsibility for what went wrong. Understanding the obstacles to Churchill’s appointment emphasises the qualities that still made him the best option.
Chamberlain comes out better than expected. Although his government was not waging war effectively he does get credit for delaying hostilities in 1938 and then massively increasing UK defence budgets.
heh heh yea he gets credit for that alright. :-) looks like an interesting read
