Congrats on the successful funding! That’s no small feat, especially in the board game world. Looking forward to seeing more details on Song for War when you get the chance to share. Always interesting to see how different designers approach WWII mechanics, especially in the Med Theater, which doesn’t get as much focus. Good luck with the production phase, it sounds like quite the ride.

I am on a quest to convert most of my “pushing plastic” games’ maps to a larger roll up format. I have been able to do that with all of my A&A games thanks to this site! Does anyone have a hi-res scan of the History of the World Map? Either the New Avalon hill version or the Z-Man Games reprint is fine.

Massive map 16816x8085px=136Mpx, one of the biggest TripleA maps. Unit size 54px high, this is with 4K screens in mind. Nearly 800 land & sea locations, with terrain effects, Desert, Forest, Marsh, Tundra, Urban, impassable mountains, canals Stacking limit is enforced to help the AI. Only 10 Air & 10 Sea units are allowed per Sea Zone/Territory. Only 20 Land per Territory. AI friendly, no Objectives, or Politics/Technology phases, both are scripted. 79 territories marked to guide the AI for better play. Sea Zones are worth 1-2pu/turn and for Britain and Japan are vital for their survival All land territories bordering Sea Zones can be blockaded. There are no convoy centres/route/zones. Four Lend-Lease-Depots, 3 in USSR Archangelsk, Persian Corridor to Baku, Vladivostok and Burma Road to Yunnan China Four types of HQ Commands, Air, Army, Fleet and Submarine, nations can have between none and five types of a HQ.
These represent Rommel, Montgomery, Patton, Cunningham, Donitz, Nimitz, US 8th Air Force HQs etc. and their staff. Four different type of “Factory” As a minimum requires TripleA 2.6.14517+

Does anyone remember Hidden & Dangerous? It was a tactical squad-based FPS that was based on SAS missions in WWII.

It was so difficult, it was basically the “Dark Souls” of WWII shooters. One wrong move would trigger the alarm for an entire base and you would die in a hail of bulletfire. None of this “one man army” Call of Duty stuff, you had to think about every move, every kill to complete the mission.

I have fond memories of sitting around a CRT monitor with a couple of my friends, blanket draped over our heads so we could see better in the night missions, knuckles white with tension. Come to think of it, our moms were probably wondering what the hell we were looking at…  :lol:

I know Oregon Trail was popular as hell, but I didn’t think anyone played OT2.  I loved OD’ing grandma on the laudanum.  :lol:

I’ve always found the history of the War card game quite interesting, especially when you compare it to Solitaire. War is one of those classic card games that is so simple yet engaging, much like Solitaire. Both games have been around for ages and have a sort of timeless appeal. War is thought to date back to at least the 19th century, and it is often one of the first card games kids learn because of its simplicity. Solitaire, on the other hand, has a rich history that goes back even further, with origins in Europe in the late 18th century. What I find fascinating about War is that it relies heavily on luck, while solitaire requires a bit more strategy and patience. This makes each game unique in its way. War is straightforward and fast-paced, which is great for quick, casual play. Solitaire can be more relaxing and requires a bit more thought, which can be very satisfying when you finally win. Both games have their charm and offer different kinds of enjoyment. War might not have the depth of solitaire, but it has its own appeal in its simplicity and the way it can quickly decide a winner. I think both games have survived for so long because they are easy to learn and play, making them accessible to everyone, regardless of age or skill level.
