Sorry, I was thinking Chainmail… one of the earliest minatures combat systems…
Thats the big draw back, reeeally expensive. It makes a great long term hobby though.
I still have my IG Armored Column from a couple of years ago. I bowed out of playing when they moved to 4th edition. I can understand the hefty price on pewter miniatures, but asking $50 for a rulebook is just too steep.
I have thought of warhammer many times, but it always stays with the thought, theres just too much time and money associated with that game.
I play Necromunda though, it’s like warhammer but you only play with a small gang of 8-20 pieces which makes it much cheaper and less time consuming as theres not much to paint. Theres a lot of landscaping to do though, unless you can go visit friends with landscape prepared!

But if there is any table top game that I would recommend to Axis&Allies: Miniatures gamers, it’ll be Flames of War- or, if you like pulp- Gear Krieg.

Well, IIRC Warhammer dates back ~ 25 to 30 years now…
The oldest copy of Rogue Trader I’ve seen was printed in 1987, so 40K will turn 20 next year.

I used to play a lot back in the day. Story I think you may like Marine.
When I was in Rotc it part of what I had to do was train others. Using props was nice, and highly encouraged. So I when I went home I got my 40k minatures and scenery to help describe how I wanted my Op Order done. Everyone else would had these old plastic green army men, small boxes for terrain…. stuff like that. I bust out my Imperial Guard fully painted minatures, with terrain and vehicles to put on a green background. The Captain told me, “ok, now lets see what General Rommel here has to say”.
Every one was impressed, I left out the part that I am a geek who paints little men lol.
Funny you use the phrase “little men”. When I was working at a local hobby shop, the GW reps hated it when you used the terms “men” or “guys” when referring to “models”.
I think it was something in the company Kool-Aid, but that’s a whole other topic.
Would you people say that A&A Minis is better than Warhammer?
Nah, Warhammer Fantasy is the best mini wargame. A&A is only good for boardgames

Does anyone still play Final Liberation? I dusted my copy off a few days ago, only to find Windows XP hates it.
Never tried Final Liberation, that old fantasy game (Skaven?) was pretty cool. I played 40k up until the last edition, I did not want to upgrade. I do play Mordheim though, one of GW’s specialist games. If you are not familiar with it, the setting is in a comet destroyed city. Players field warbands based on the various races in Warhammer Fantasy. It’s easier on the wallet as most warbands have from 10 to 15 models.

There are a couple of ways around this (I’ve got the game and tried to play months ago).
Google it for all the information, but from what I recall, you can right click on the .exe of FL, and select the compatibility tab. Click on compatibility mode, and select Win95 or Win98…I’m not sure which one it is. That worked for a lot of people. There are also some commands you can put in the shortcut start file to make it run better on XP (like if you add -w to a shortcut path, it will run in a minimized window).
There are other major ways to try and play it, but try that suggestion first, then look it up if that doesn’t work.

Yeah, its expensive. But it is certaintly fun

My roommate has chaos space marines, so we sometimes kill whole days playing 40K. Depends on what the Army guys are doing though.
