tanks that attack and take over a territory must stay there, right? even if it only took one move to attack

only if:
- The territory was neutral
OR - there were enemy troops in that first territory.
for “2” - if there is no enemy in a territory then the tank simply “blitzes” through it, acquiring the first territory and attacking the second. If there is even 1 troop in the territory, then no blitz.
Also you can not acquire a territory by one set of forces in an attack and blitz your tank through it in the same round to attack a territory beyond it. - The territory was neutral

It is also legal to blitz an enemy-controlled (not enemy-occupied) territory and return to a friendly territory if you wish.
