    • RE: Sarnia war room game three.

Sorry for the long time before reply was tied up with other things. The group is still finding itself I believe. Myself and my brother are always in the games as for the others I have had a new person to each game and had two skip a game. Winter is harder to get some of us together do too kids and hockey. I also have one that has bailed on all three games and a bunch online who show interest and then you never hear back from them or they are tied up on Sunday’s as that is the best day for me to play and they can not as they play something else. Hard to get a solid group to show up for each game……as for strong players my friend and me are the strong strategy players and often try new ideas and often radical moves that don’t always pay off but throw enemies off their game do to shock. As for the other two who show up more often, they understand the game and how to play but they both do not move…they tend to sit idle and by doing so has cost the game for their team both times. One does it because he is unsure of what to do for strategy. The other because he does not want to lose any men. So fear controls him and when he is attacked he tends to get grumpy as he knows he will lose the engagement. I have been trying to explain to him that you need to think one to two moves ahead. As in,yes you are being staked and should lose as most people attack with a stronger force so focus on defence for that fight but if and usually when you lose the territory you should not be upset as you have a plan in your head for a counter or cut the troops off move. Always think ahead. And don’t sit still all the time as your allies need you to draw some attention away from them. This game ussr got overwhelmed by Germany as the USA and the Brits did not engage them at all. More the Brits then anything. They were left alone for most of the game minus the opening. And despite ussr trying to keep things under control they just could not handle Germany and Italy since Italy was allowed to grow so large… It is a learning proses for some and only three games have been played. Hope this was not too long…

Hey guys this is the link for our third game this season. It was a interesting one as things were done that never happen like the USA lost San Fran! Two mistakes early were corrected as stated in the video. Let me know what you think and don’t forget to subscribe and like the video as it may get me to do more. Thanks for the view and advice. I played Russia, not the best but under the conditions I am not sure what else I could have done exempt wait a bit longer to push at Germany or not at all. Please give me a couple of ideas on this. Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Who is more difficult to contain?

I say Japan. As they really are a case of containing. If they are left unchecked they can spread quite quick due to their navy and Air Force. It requires the USA to spend quite a bunch of its income I the pacific. But a steady constant attack from the USA even if they are loosing ships every match will dwindle Japan’s offence and force them into defence. Russia and the U.K. Can work together to weeken Germany and if the USA has two turns to spend all of its income in the Atlantic nary turn one and two most games, then Germany has a hard time geting momentum. Unless the the Italian fleet survives then I would change my vote to Germany as the Italians will be a force to allow the Germans to focus on one enemy since the Italians will be covering their back so to speak. Or that is my opinion after a couple of games anyway. What does everyone think?

Yup my brother is very new to the game and is slower on understanding that you need to be aggressive. After the game I pointed out all three of those to him. As for a plan, not sure he had one really. I think he was just playing reaction game style. No real looking ahead or it didn’t seem like it. Japan was doing ok minus the Burma road then lack of force and too much sitting around sealed the fate of his fleet. That and he sit it up to the point that it just got picked off one group at a time. Thank for the info though all good points.

    • Sarnia war room game two.

Well guys September is halfway done and our second game is over. It was a fun game to play as there was just two of us. It ended with a second allies win, curious? Lol
Sorry for the short last video room was tied up on my phone so it was hard to do. Let me know how the game went and if you think the axis really lost as I am not sure. My brother just thought it was all over even though Italy got Rome back and Germany had lots out west by France. Thanks for the views and comments as they prompt me to make more videos for the channel. Any suggestions on videos to do for the channel let me know and I will see what I can do.

    • RE: Germany's fate in Japan's hands?

This is what happened to me in our first game yg. I just got overwhelmed and Japan just didn’t do enough. Had a timid player playing Japan so they sat and built and waited for the USA to come knocking around turn 6-7. Also just wasted money in China by not having the Burma road under control so the art units added up to a half decent defence for China. Lol it was quite epic really!

    • RE: 1940 game table build

CWO- thanks for the remarks. Also if one wants to duplicate the whole proses took just four days to do thanks to the pictures from grasshopper so lots of work yes but all and all not as long as I would have expected.

Dafyd- thank you for the comments. For yours depending on what you are using for trays(stock trays) just add 8inches to the top and bottom and 13inches to the sides and you should be good for your border. If that helps any??

Young grasshopper- buddy your design is what made this built take only four days to do. My thanks for all your hard work that made mine that much easier. As for the stain, don’t feel to jealous, lol. You said before you took the boards off to cut out the other spots you made so worst case you could undo and stain then reattach. Although you have more stuff on your to work around. One day I may print off a one piece map but don’t need it for now.
      Thanks again guys.

    • 1940 game table build

Hi guys this is my build video on my 1940 game table I just made. A huge thanks goes out to young grasshopper and his table that I based mine off of. It is made to fit the board and trays from the game as I need to put the table away when we are done playing as I have kids and can’t leave it up all the time. There are a couple things that are not perfect but all in all I am pleased with the built. Total. Let was around $170 and took me four days to do with help of two of my friend on assembly days three and four to hold things in place while I screed them down. Let me know what you guys think and any questions I will be happy to answer.

    • RE: Best way to help Italy?

Wow never considered sending jap forces into the Middle East. Figured the would always have their hands full in the pacific. also sorry to teslas. I was not saying the plan was bad or you need to go to the Middle East. Just saying that it was an option for good income.

Don’t count out the Middle East as it is full of ipc’s for them and they can assist in taking India or more important in my book is take the caucuses and put Russia on a permanent defensive maneuver if Germany is doling in. This is a good idea if you got Egypt and can keep it without question. The med plus the Middle East= a well funded Italy.

Yeh if left alone like they were Anzac can amass quite a fleet and then do some real work. Subs are cheep so if you can keep your transports alive they can be the backbone of a naval fleet to push and at the very least pull some Japan fleet away from other key positions.

    • RE: Sarnia war room first game.

That is very true but next game is a all out random dice roll to see who gets what nation. No planing or going after me. Lol. Not that they really did. My friend told me he was coming for Europe since U.S. Had nothing to really do in the pacific and UK did nothing in Europe as Italy was left to spread unchecked for the most part. My mistake was not planing a reasonable defence against the U.S.

Yup it is hard not to like a game that requires so much understanding and planning to be very good at. All I have introduced to it so far have said they love it and from what I gather it is just getting past that first oh my god what do I do moment…

    • RE: Sarnia war room first game.

yeh the retake of Paris was a nice boost. On my last turn holland fell back to Germany and only six tanks remain in Normandy and all was well on the western front then. Problem was the Russians made too much money for Germany to keep going on two fronts. I would reclaim all of Europe only to have Moscow come and take Berlin. So that is why we called it. Japan just did not do anything and then lost all they did leaving them with only making 20 something ipc’s. Egypt didn’t change the corse of the game but could have so I am glad my mistake did not affect the outcome.

    • RE: No A&A on popular top 10 list

The reasoning behind not including it seems very narrow minded. Instead of bringing more attention to the war game field they have just brought negative views on long lasting realistic games because they don’t want to spend the time to play them. The age of players is getting older and things like this video are not helping the matter. Sorry to rant but why try to bring attention to a type of game only to give negative views and drive people to shorter and easier games. Doesn’t make much sense to me that’s all.

    • RE: Sarnia war room first game.

Hessian, thank you for the info. That is a nice house rule on holding the ships back to assist and would make sense in real life for suck an event. I did know about the only one shot per ship and only once before the start of combat. Also units hit do get to fire back at units landing if I am correct in my reading. Thank you for all the info on the matter as it seems that is the one thing we really did mess up was the bombardment and the leaving/entering the med.

As for the map the only thing I am not sure of is while the table I am going to make will be full size as my stairs go right into my basment in a strait shot so build in garage then bring in is no problem. I will not be able to leave it set up permanently as I don’t think I have the room to do so for now. So it will be place off to the side against a wall until I make a good home for it. So I will not be making trays yet to leave pieces and separate them as I will be using the original trays and at the end of a game putting everything back in the box:(. So then I would need to either glue down the printed map or fold it up or roll it up every time and I feel this may be my problem. Unless you guys have glued or attached the printed map down some how, I am not sure if or how I would do this yet??

Thanks for the welcome and I continue to enjoy all the help.

    • RE: Sarnia war room first game.

Thanks for the info on the naval fleet not having the option to leave the med. I have a friend that watched and informed me of my bombardment of Egypt also was wrong as we understand now after talking me and him is you can only bombard the land if you have a landing from sea going on and only one shot per ground unit landing. Let me know if that is now correct? I enjoy all the advice as we only wish to play better. Reason for Paris being taken back was the U.S. Spending all ipc’s in Europe as Japan did not threaten anything. Also Germany brought Russia in on round two as my friend came for the game and I felt bad he was sitting there for a couple of hours doing nothing. I will work on the camera thing, got to be carful as I only have so much room on it to record. Soon I think I will be making a table and I will record the build to post to the channel too. It is going to be a variation of young grasshoppers table as he has given me many good ideas in his videos. Have not decided on a printed map yet or just use the game board for now and upgrade to a print later??

Thanks again guys and any advice is always welcome. Games should be fun to watch as we don’t seem to play the same tactics as most right now.
