      FAQ:
      Q: When are damaged facilities repaired?

      A: In the Production Phase. Thus, they can be used in the same turn.

    • RE: British Wartime Income and Enemy Submarines

      @hbg-gw-enthusiast I would say that is “on the line”. It is in a sea zone with the line running through it. I would consider that “on”

      Realistically, it will still cause diversion and force delays to the convoys. It isn’t like there is no impact, and this represents that.

      @chris_henry
      @GEN-MANSTEIN
      I understand your point.
      However, I think that putting war crimes in the game, things like terror bombing, unrestricted sub warfare, concentrations camps, etc. is a very risky thing. When one puts such a tactic into that game, you are confirming it as a viable tactic, something we should try to avoid. Sinking ships without warning, or bombing civilians are not things that we want to promote or confirm, even unintentionally.
      My little brother (under 10) plays with me sometimes. I don’t want him think that because we can something in game means we can do it in real life. I find that staying away from such things is the best course. This is a similar reason I don’t use swastika markers in my game. Adding such a feature is easily seen as condoning it.
      I understand that all sides committed crimes. I do not support any such behavior, and hope that someday, it will all cease and the antagonists held accountable. The perpetrator of a crime has no effect on its horror, and no bearing on this situation.
      This is not a simulation. We can have noble leaders in game who do not chose to go down that vicious path.
      Let us not repeat the mistakes of our predecessors.

    • RE: Carriers vs Islands in Pacific?

      @hms-serapis Similar points to @insaneHoshi
      Carriers give better fleet defense. Planes on island have to have an airbase built, and then only 3 fighters can scramble, and then even with radar, you still can’t scrabble tactical bombers.
      Also, you have to capture an island the turn before you can land planes on it. So unless you have some very good ANZAC forces that don’t mind doing all the heavy lifting, you have to leave your fleet one turn ahead of your planes. (Reinforcement of captured bases only applies for the Marshals and Carolines.)
      Range is better on a carrier. You don’t have to exit the island, and you can land where you don’t control islands. (See above point.) With a land based plane, you need Long Range Aircraft and and airbase to hit an island in the next sea zone. Or you can use a carrier. Carriers are needed to get effective island hopping going, as bombards only go so far aginst a determined Japanese militia spam.
      Also, MAP off a carrier is so much better than MAP off an island.
      Carriers are capital ships, meaning they give you hit points to take in battle, and are essential for a American VP.

      Also, there is not always an island there. The northern Pacific is rather short on islands. And carriers can move to respond to threats. Islands can’t.

      Carriers definitely have a role in maximizing the efficiency of an American push, and that should be the cornerstone of all US strategy, no matter the theater. Making the most of the short time the US is in the war is the best way for the Allies to achieve a victory.

      @panzerbaguette It says:
      “In the first Production Phase after U.S.S.R. is at war
      with a Major Power all land units cost -1 IPP.”
      (Emphasis added)
      So yes. Go send cheep units to your allies.

    • RE: 3D Printing this Game?

      @admiralnutt I don’t know.
      I do know that with G40 and a few extra pieces here and there ( a copy of 1941 is really nice) you can have almost a complete game if you use marking chips under the units. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Fc9QuXN5Z0&list=PLtSU9JD2VSqcEC1hH45vzkfjwGpCQ7dzZ&index=2)
      As for 3d printing, I don’t know that much, but Cobra Wargaming (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXmTE0T2irmsyr-nc6xfsyA) has made several 3d printed pieces so I would ask him.

    • RE: AA Clarification

      @captainnapalm Oh yes.

      FAQ:
      A: They only participate in the first round of combat. Each Anti-aircraft Artillery gets 1 shot per aircraft, up to a maximum of 3 shots per Anti-aircraft Artillery unit. Refer to table for the number of dice the Anti-aircraft Artillery units get to roll based on the number of aircraft available as targets. Although Anti-aircraft Artillery units cannot fire in subsequent rounds of combat, they may be taken as casualties in any combat round.

      [The table wouldn’t copy]

      Example: Japan attacks Burma with 4 aircraft. FEC defends with 2 Anti-aircraft Artillery units. Thus, FEC would roll 6 dice.

    • 2025 Bigger version

      So, anyone have thoughts on the Bigger 2025?
      I had heard about it a few years ago, but can’t find the posting.
      What are you looking for?
      I’d like to see things such as more expanded nation options. Nations like India or Japan. Another thing could be a more flexible alliance structure, so allowing solo players, like India or the Caliphate.
      For units, I’d like more options (obviously) but also things like patrol craft or corvettes, as well as a good array of planes and helicopters. A insurgency is also a good idea, so is diplomacy.

      What are you looking forward to or want?
      Also, any news on this?

    • Western Australia

      According to the rules on page 8 (1.7) - “If the roundel in a land zone is located in a terrain type, the entire land zone is subject to the rules for that terrain type.”
      The roundel in Western Australia is in the Impassable desert of the Outback. Does this mean that the entire territory is impassable? That could change a lot.

    • RE: Kamikaze-ing subs

      All, HBG has updated the FAQ:
      Q: Can you attack Submarines with Kamikaze?

      A: No. Kamikaze can only ever attack surface ships. This also means that the Defender can not choose a Submarine as casualty.

      That is good, though I suggest that it be changed in errata to say
      “These are made at an Attack of 7 aginst surface ships with target selection vs. surface ships of “1-2” and have First Strike.”

    • RE: How to incent Chinese Civil War battles in 2-play?

      @sjelso I think that in 2 player, China will always suffer. I don’t think there is a way around that. However, you could force a battle every turn, or something such. I think the best thing is a player who is good at solo games. In a solo game, you want each side to win, and player the best for that side when it is their turn. The Allies/Commie play could do this in China, though it is not ideal. It all comes down to the purity of essence and how well you wish to play.
      The Japan control is annoying, as if you look at the current Youtube game, that shows the problems you can get is the CCP is controlled by Japan. It basically gives then no incentive to attack China, and then they can use the CCP to steamroll the USSR or FEC.

    • RE: Border Forts getting flanked

      @sjelso They are definitely units that shine in specific situations. One thing to remember is that on islands, cities or Malaya, a fort protects all borders. In that case, they are superb.
      Other chokepoints could be the Russian font. If you look, you can fortify Smolensk, and then build a line across the Northern section. The south is not the best, but it can work. Other short fronts include bengal or burma, or a defense of France in Normandy or Northern Loraine.

    • RE: Aircraft carrier rules in v3- a New Way of Thinking.

      @hbg-gw-enthusiast I would just add italicised texta clause saying something on the lines of “aircraft may not be placed on carriers during the place units phase” in that section, and a clause saying “newly built carriers may not be used to guarantee landing spots for fighters and tactical bombers.”
      It is rather obvious is you look for it, but I think a FAQ or a additional clause is needed.

    • RE: French Navy restricted movement?

      @sjelso That is only a problem if your Italian player is bad. They don’t have to go to war and get their fleet smashed. They are allowed to wait until they see an opportunity, and the Allies cannot attack them until they attack. (That is, unless Italy invades some neutral early on and wastes their neutrality.)

      Also, the Germans want to try in general to take out France fast. If the UK and France have a turn, they can either reinforce Paris till it is impossible to take, or evacuate a bunch of Frenchmen to make life a pain for Vichy. Either way, not great.

      Overall, I think the French navy is an interesting item that is very well done. Its goal is to maximise it effectiveness, either by being defensive, being in a place to strike if possible, or other such thing. I think if it is becoming a problem for your group, you need to look at the way you play the Axis, and adapt your tactics. In general, this holds true for most things. If you find a problem, try changing your strategies before you change the game.

    • RE: Can submarines move through enemey channals like the suez Channel in combat move

      @didier_de_dax In this case, here is what would happen

      (1) Italy starts combat move, and moves his fleets from Italy into sea zone 81. He announced his intent to keep moving. (2) He then moves through the Suez in to Sea Zone 82(?). They announce that they are going to keep moving. He is not at war yet, and can do this. (3) Italy then moves into sea zone 83(?) off Aden and ancouse that they are fighting the fleet there. That is now a DOW ad they are at war with the UK. (4) They then a move any land attacks, or some air attacks into UK zones.

      Possible changes.

      • If UK had been able to DOW Italy, (perhaps because Italy DOWed a neutral first this turn) they could have at any point. (Maybe when they entered 81 or tried to move through Suez)
      • The Italians could have moved a land attack first. If they did so, once they entered a UK land zone, it would be a DOW. If that happened, they couldn’t go through Suez.
      • Similarly, if the Italians goofed up and DOWed the UK before step 2, then the canal could be closed.

      Is that more helpfull?

      @david-06 I am actually working on it.
      I am using info on the HOI4 scenario, and filling in what I can’t find. (I don’t have HOI4)
      When I finish research, I’ll post it up. Ideas are welcome, as is playtesting.
