    • RE: My Axis & Allies 1942 Room…

      @Der:

      Hello all - a spare bedroom opened up in my basement and I’ve converted it into my own war room.  The centerpiece is Imperious Leader’s excellent 1942 map which I downloaded to a zip file and took to a local printer.

      First an overall view of the table in the room:

      Another view - propaganda posters and newspaper clippings from WWII are framed on the walls:

      Next the ceiling: 2 strips of bright studio lights. A historic flag from each major nation in WWII is draped to the corners:

      Handmade wood and felt dice rolling trays on both sides of the map keep the dice from hitting other pieces:

      Handmade wooden trays for each nation:

      This map on the wall is a copy of an actual German invasion map - circa Sept. 1942 - Stalingrad.

      The closet was converted into a nook with a 40’s look. I keep all my extra pieces and game parts in the dresser below and the radio plays Cds with 40’s music:

      A custom production chart at the head of the table - made of sheet metal with magnetic markers:

      My custom battle-boards are double sided “attack” and “defense” to increase size and utility - each side of the table has it’s own that can be flipped over according to the situation:

      Lastly, to avoid those disastrous game ending spills - everyone has his own cup holder under the table. House rule: no drinks on the table!

      I’ve been wanting to something like this for 25 years - finally have the space and a good tolerant wife. Now the guys can play and just walk off and shut the door and it will all be there next time. Thanks again to Imperious Leader for the great map!

      Just wow! amazing, really.

      @Imperious:

      I guarantee this version is more like AA than 1914. It just a tad more complex than Global and features standard and advanced rules as well as optional rules.

      dude, i can’t wait for this game, brother.

      @Imperious:

      In a lot of ways this map is superior to A&A 1914. Especially the colors. The red for the Ottomans is so much better then the turquoise. I also like how Bulgaria is controlled by Germany over the Ottomans. More territories to maneuver in too. How large will the map be?

      5 feet by 4 feet hardbound map, so it’s huge

      Is there some connection with this game and Pegasus Hobbies? Are they making the the pieces?

      They produced the game

      I do like how Larry’s map feels more global though. A few suggestions I would have for the map is maybe consider creating a new image for the forts. I had to really zoom in just to tell what it was. Maybe get rid of one of the US convoys and make it Canadian also. Shouldn’t the Russian capitol be in Petrograd? Spaces like Gallipoli seem way too small. Over all though I really dig it.

      The Russian capital is St. Pertersburg, not Moscow. Gallipoli is small because it is small. When you have too many pieces you just use one of the numbers and place it in the area, and the pieces go off board with that number ( note the numbered boxes bottom left).

      The fort is based on Verdun at an angle looking above head on. The detail just couldn’t be done ( it was revised a number of times)

      that’s what i’m talking about!

      our bids have been 0, 0, 6, 10, 12, 13, 13. i bet it will settle in @ 9-12.
      we play all bid $$ must be placed in 1 country, not inf all over the place, for example.

    • RE: Why are the allies so gimped lately? Why transports suck?

      @MistuhJay:

      @Cromwell_Dude:

      Agreed. I never can go back to Classic or Revised. I am curious though if I will prefer 1942.2 over 1942.1.

      Heh, I feel slightly guilty that my copy of Revised (all I had the last 8 years) is being neglected due to 1942.2.

      it’s worthless now, bro, just as 42 2nd will be the minute 52anny hit’s!

    • RE: Russia attack west russia with everything that can reach on the first turn.

      @MistuhJay:

      @UrJohn:

      It depends on your strategy.
      Here are some options–
      –3 AP & 3 INF
      –IC, AP & 2 ART
      –AP, INF, DD & BMR
      –2 AP, SS, 2 INF & ART
      –CV, AP & 3 INF

      I really like options 1 and 2 (J1 bomber, ftw!), but why would you need a third CV when you start with two already?

      I’m not knockin it-just genuinely want to understand the logic.  😃

      makes the americans go pacific or lose their fleet.

      @MistuhJay:

      @Cow:

      eww vc win for 1942. not a real win unless you take russia imo. 🙂

      True, that.

      It definitely feels like the Allies have to work a lot harder to get their 9 VCs. The Axis VCs (except maybe Phillipines) all seem a lot more easily defensible than Karelia (touching two German territories and a German Trn), India (within striking distance of the combined might of the Japanese fleet by J2-3), and Hawaii (a constant draw on US forces to defend). In fact, Hawaii as a VC seems like it does more to hold US back then it does to help.

      it’s definitely undervalued. All VCs should be 4s at minimum.

    • RE: Indian Fleet Alternatives

      @ICinBrazil:

      As much as I would like an alternative, I really don’t see one. To me it seems that leaving the south IJN alive can lead to a resemblance of the ole godzilla Japan. From the looks of it, one good take the three China territories and  Burma. The IJN is consolidated in SZ61 for a possible J2 India push.

      just played one where japan went godzilla but with no fleet to oppoae them, they were a worthless fleet and germany fell. 2 hours later, so did japan (9 bombers and 6 subs wrecked 3 carriers and 3 battleships.

      @Mallery29:

      You should use the DD to take down the remaing SS off of EUS (although my last game US won outright in the 2SS vs DD…that hurt me…lots of bad rolls for the Axis in that game).  The trans I would save…going for Norway will be a short lived negative investment for the UK…better to save the trans for later when you can drop a UK fleet.  Your forces will get killed in Norway, lose the transport, and will have not saved Russia from anything.

      taking norway is a good move once germany navy is gone. it just seems MUCH easier to hold for the allies.
