One more video posted today, on a house rule: elite units, using Marine markers as an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42BqEoG9s3M
In this video I explain a simple optional rule that lets you upgrade any infantry, tank, fighter, artillery, or mechanized unit into an elite version. I also show how you can use it with basic or custom markers: marines with amphibious attack bonus, and even a special rule for Allied Brazilian forces. A quick way to add variety and historical flavor to your Axis and Allies games.

RE: Is there a world champion for this game?posted in Axis & Allies Discussion & Older Games
Gary at Board Game Nation just won the 2023 A&A “World Championship” at GenCon.
Though “world” sounds a bit too lofty (local guys playing just 4 matches in OK), it was sponsored by Renegade, so I guess this was legit.
You can check his excellent game reviews on his YouTube channel Board Game Nation.

Hello. You can purchase a tiff file (not pdf) of the Bloodbath 1940 Global map from Siredblood. Check his map and contact him at the links below and good luck:

@shadowhawk Thank you but how does bid placement work in tournaments like GenCon with Global 1942 etc.?
Gencon allows you to place troops anywhere they already exist. In theory, you could bid 9 and place 3 infantry all in the same space. This allows for a lower overall bid as you are not restricted to 1 unit per space.
My original question was whether I can use bid money to upgrade units at GenCon tournament rules. For example, upgrade 3 inf into artillery, instead of placing 1 new infantry.

RE: Renegade Enlarged Map - thoughts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Until recently, we all had to print these maps on our own, and I’ve played on several printouts. If I didn’t have the Bloodbath map (predominantly beige color map), I’d certainly consider Renegade’s.
These are the best ready-to-buy maps, as of early 2024:
-
Renegade’s Global 1940 - the map is 20% larger than OOB and looks very nice yet it’s made of a rubbery material which feels a bit strange. You can check this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooTQwiZrdRQ&ab_channel=Crockett36 -
Bloodbath map - now available on Combat Miniatures (a sponsor of this forum). The map designer (Sireblood) has gotten bogged down over a series of minor edits, so keep an eye on what “version” of the map you’d be getting, as some territories and their IPCs are a bit different (Azores, Turkey, Hokkaido, Bessarabia etc.).
-
Global 1937 map by Historical Board Gaming - impressive epic map but it was designed for a quite complicated mod version of Axis & Allies, so it doesn’t work in OOB A&A.
