Oh, ok thanks. I love tech, as in the 50th edition, i would play the soviet union, get advance artillery, and use artillery/infantry to push back the Germans.

Whats in the tech tree?
I had preorder the game and it will be arriving on the 27th oif this month, however, there is one question i have to ask. Is there a tech tree? AAP40 didn’t have one, but it sounds like there is one in AAE40. If so, what are they? :?

RE: Invasion of Mongolia
I did it so that i could have a safe place to put my units into while i began my invasion of China. Plus it is good for flanking their rear side. :-D (^^^)

RE: Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
But my point is what does the Soviet union do in the meanwhile. Can it attack anyone, and can Germany not go to war with the Soviet Union? This is what i was aiming at.

RE: Globalization & World War
I’m sorry, but another World War is coming. mainly due to the uselessness of nuclear warfare and Globalization.
First off, nuclear warfare only works to end a war. Its not the useful first strike. The obvious thing is to knock out the nuclear weapons of the defenders and his allies with a preemptive strike, mainly of low-flying or even strategic bombers. To defeat farther inland missile silos/airbases, you uses a fast moving bunker busting missile, like the Tomahawk missile, to destroy them. SSBN submarines are only moderately effective due to them having to close the distance.
Second, Globalization, while it is a neat idea of preventing a massive war by withdrawing on the economic support of a nation, only works if the nation doesn’t decided to goes balls to the wall and goes full out on its enemy. For instance, if Russia decided it was ripe for a 3rd world War, who the heck is going to stop their economy? They are self-sustaining themselves.
And for the finale, the only reason there hasn’t been a 3rd world war is that fuel cost are so high. Once the World finds another massive oil well, like the Arctic oil fields, the Alaskan oil fields, and the Siberian oil fields, the cost of fuel will lower and more fuel will be ready to fuel the World’s massive war machines. -
Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
I was thinking, in 1940, The Soviet union and Nazis Germany were technically neutral to each other. It gave the Russian half of Eastern Europe while Germany got the other half and Finland.
So how would this be represented in game, would it be like the Japanese-Russian Non-aggression pact, where if Germany invades Russia, then Russia gains either a boost of manpower (extra infantry), or could it be like the US neutrality, where it gets a boost of IPC???
I wouldn’t mind this, for it could allow Russia to -gasp- invade the Middle East for itself. The US,UK, France, and the other allied powers weren’t’ friendly with the USSR until it became apparent the Russia was getting steamrolled by the Germans. I think this could provide the ultimate answer for ‘what if Hitler never ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union?’. -
RE: Our Dream Axis and Allies Games…
Well, if there is one thing i like to see, is a possible US atom bomb. Basically, if Japan has lost control of all the pacific island, and the us has an airbase on Iwo Jima and Okinawa, it can build an atomic bomb for 45 IPC. The roll a dice to see whether the bomb hits anything (a 4 or lower) and if it does, roll ten dice and destroy a unit for every dice that is a 3 or lower. If the bomber is shot down, the bomb doesn’t activate and is assumed the bomb has been destroyed on impact.

RE: Realistic battles
Giving every unit two hit devalues unit like the BB and AC, so no, its not cool. and an infantry div will lose to a tank div.

RE: US Strategy
Ok, so i just played my first game of the AAP40, and i lost as japan. What the Us could do it while Japan is trying to wreck havoc on the Chinese ground forces and the British army, move your entire fleet and air force to midway instead of Hawaii. It puts you closer to Japan, and Japan has to cease its ground campaign to win in the naval fight. sure it has more planes, but if the Us is smart, they can take Iwo Jima on their first or second turn.

RE: Mech Infantry-Halftracks
The mech-infantry is useful if you have a lot of ground to cover, plus they can blitz with tank formations to give a cheap but realitvely fast unit to defend the tanks from an onslaught. It is good if the British build some in India, then quickly support Chinese forces against the Japanese. I played my first game against my brother today, and I got owned at the end due to my in-ability to take all of China early and destroy the US navy early. I suppose if i were Japan and i simply attacked China and leave the UK and US alone for three turns i could win the Pacific.

RE: Is there the soviet union?
Well, once i get the game, i will make a house rule that Japan can not enter Soviet territory. i don’t think that Japan would invade the Soviet Union for two reasons;
One: Once AAE40 comes out, the Us and Britain will have more IPC, China should get more territory, and thus Japan would need to focus more on them instead of the SU, and
two: The Us and Britain could focus their industries onto Japan, so Japan will be screwed if they go after the Soviet union and ignore them. And the Soviet union can’t attack Japan until they defeat Germany. -
RE: Does anyone buy Tactical Bombers?
Tactical bombers, don’t they get an attack boost with fighters/tanks with them? So if you think about it, they get a 4 attack, so in the 3 tactical bombers and 3 fighters vs 5 strategic bombers, the strategic bombers lose way more if defending.
-
RE: Is there the soviet union?
Well, since it does add the Soviet union, this is a good idea. however, lets wait until AAE40 comes out. Then I will have joy turning the Soviet war machine onto Japan after it beats Germany. :-D

RE: Does J1 Attack "Break" the games?
Ok, if the J1 attack is to strong for the allies, learn to throw a dice. If you can master rolling a dice to get the number you want, you could easily make the J1 attack that of a suicide bomber. I know learning to throw a dice they way you want is harder than I make it sound, but if it works, the Japan will be reeling from their losses.
-
RE: US Strategy
What is making the J1 attack so good? Do they have a OP fleet? or do they have the invincible air fleet? I think that it is possible for the Us and the Allies to win the pacific if both players a new to the board and its layout. When I got the revised edition of AA, my brother would always win as the axis. We switched roles and he would still win. But when i got the anniversity edition, I was able to have the Soviet union hold the German lines while the UK and America bang up the Western German front.

RE: Is there the soviet union?
That is so much a relief. But waiting for AAE40 is annoying. Why not have it come out in June or something? Why must it come out in August?

RE: US Strategy
I am having AAP40 coming via California via Ebay. So I don’t know what is on the map. I am just saying, that strategy worked on the 50th university edition. So let me get the game, play it a couple of times, and i will come up with a way the Allies beat Japan.
-
RE: US Strategy
Ok, so apparently the Allies can’t back off the Japanese? Here is something that worked in the other axis and allies games that i played.
1: First build a destroyer and aircraft carrier for the US, putting two fighters on the carrier. Then get any remaining naval units to rendezvous with the carrier fleet. This will be fleet one. Britain should put an IPC factory somewhere in Australia (out of the line of fire). If it has one, then build a battleship and destroyer. Again cart remaining naval forces together. This forms fleet two.
2: If Japan goes for the islands, hit their transports with fighters and bombers. If they go for carriers or Battleships/cruisers, hit them with subs. Next turn, Britain should fortify Australia for a immediate naval landing by Japan. America should invest in more carriers, fighters, and destroyers. After a fleet is built, send it outside Japanese attacks.
3:Japan should be about to take the rest of the Pacific fighters. Have all the side make transports with a infantry and tank each, or a infantry and artillery.
4: Have the fleets attack the closest islands with the transports and battle fleets. Japan should be kicked off their recently captured island. If they have stacked their naval in one sea zone, work around it until you have numerical advantage. America should work its way to Iwo Jima or Okinawa and then build bombers. Get those bombers within range of Japan.
5: With the bombers, pummel Japan so it can’t build any more ships. America should focus on bombers while Britain should focus on destroyers and cruisers to counter the Japanese heavy sub doctrine. Once the Japanese navy is pretty much FUBAR, then go taking the islands back, along with liberating the Asian mainland.
6: Once Japan is stuck on its island, go in for the kill. It will take a couple of attempts, but once you get their forces below 50%, then it becomes easier for you to win. -
RE: Is there the soviet union?
It is fair that there is a non-aggression treaty between Russia and Japan. It even the battlefield. Otherwise, Germany, Italy, and Japan would overrun the Soviet union, and that would give them a massive manpower boost, not to mention the fact that now they are connected. Is there technology in the AAP40? Cause one of the most annoying things is that when i play against my brother, he researches jet fighters, and then he builds massive carrier fleets. Since the fighters then defend on a 5 or lower, even battleships are futile against them.

Is there the soviet union?
Hey, I bought a copy of AAP40, but i saw the soviet territories on the map, so can you play with as the soviet Union? I know I probably sound like a fool, but playing as the Soviet union is so fun in the 50th anniversity AA board. The advance arty is worth getting for them.
