    • RE: Favorite WWII Ship

And yet not even a big deal compared to the ultimate commerce raider which had these stats

      Displacement: 1050 tons
      Length: 220 ft (67 m)
      Beam: 31 ft 8 in (9.7 m)
      Draft: 17 ft 8 in (5.4 m)
      Installed power: 300 HP
      Propulsion: Steam engine
      Speed: 13 knots (24 km/h)
      Complement: 145 officers and men
      Armament: 6 x 32 lb (15 kg) cannons, 1 x 110 lb (50 kg) cannon, 1 x 68 lb (31 kg) cannon

CSS Alabama at sea for 534 days out of 657, never having pulled into a single Confederate port. She boarded almost 450 vessels, captured or burned 65 Union merchant vessels, and took more than 2,000 prisoners without a single loss of life from either prisoners or her own crew.

      But thats another war  😉

Ah, another fan of the merchant raider. As a southern I’ve always loved the story of the Alabama. Had the Union not used chain-mail armor, perhaps the outcome of that duel off Cherbourg been different.

The German World War One Raider Wolf led a glormous life also.

Yep, and since I am a multi generational Floridian I am a big fan of the CSS Florida - Which ran the blockade into Mobile and escaped to boot. Took 37 prizes, two of which were converted into the CSS Tacony and Clarence which took 23 more prizes. And if not for the violation of Brazilian waters…who knows but c’est la guerre

How many ships were sunk in WW1 and WW2 combined and were worried about a few oil spills  :?

I assume you have instituted some sort of Railway rule allowing for greater movement? What does the UK do during this march to Paris and Italy?

    • RE: Does anyone know if this game is still in print?

This is a favorite of ours because it is a sea battle game mostly. Yes you are trying to take Islands but the land fighting always feels very secondary.

also aircraft are not very powerful or dangerous against ships, you need to bring way to many aircraft to really harm ships, planes must first fight past CAP and then run a brutal gauntlet of AAA fire from the ships.

Ships AAA fire at this period of the war was not that ferocious from either US or Japanese ships. Airstrikes usually got through and did pretty decent damage.

The biggest thing we do is change the victory conditions, instead of Victory points we play until all the islands are controlled or some other requirement.

With some tweeks and aggressive players this game has sweeping Sea battles, something no other A&A does at this scale.

In order to gain VP’s from OOTB you really need to avoid losing capital ships and be a foreman of airfield construction and not an admiral in the solomon’s.

I agree this and Gudalcanal (with some home rules) are my two games.

Always testing new things with 1914, trying to see how to make it better.

I have every A&A game so getting extra units that mostly match is not a problem…but still its lame it didn’t have enough to begin with. Other versions come with extra units never needed.

      Russian aircraft carriers for ecample…

Mostly watching the Allies still win the war.  😉

If the Brits have unlimited India builds, they went mostly toward OE and sent enough to contest Russia forcing both German and Austrian troops to garrison and be active in the east.

Playing with the real rules that would not occur after the RR.

So far Italy has never been knocked out of the war, French and US troops arrive to help out. If A-H is no longer worried about the east then that might change.

No, but I will - normally just take the Brits and go all in on KTF

We tried to limit the builds to 8 but this still allowed the UK to really rough up the OE.

We also tried 4 units but that was too few. India was often lost to easily.

I will give the 6 a try.  We usually allow only 1 cannon per turn, as we assume these units are Indian, Australian and New Zealanders and don’t have the heavy weapons industry the UK had.

We also restricted tanks for the same reason.

    • RE: Neutrals - what do you do?

      I’ve tried 3 different systems,

Impassable (the best overall I have found and simplest)

Increased their army to both 4 and 8 units (8 makes it formidable)

and Increased their army to 4 units and at the same time requiring an IPC hit on the invader.

We have them pay a 10 IPC penalty for taking down the Swiss banking system. One time shot.

    • RE: Russian Revolution question

While I get that is a rule for game play

How exactly are two fully equipped British Infantry (Divisions, Armies?) going to be deported to Siberia?  😮

If the Russian Army is not strong enough to expel me then the mobs of the revolution sure won’t be.

I think if I were in command I would order my men to fire on any “Reds” who attempted to take my Enfield’s from me.  😉

    • RE: Russian Revolution question

so what would occur lets say if the British already occupy Russian territory? British troops in Sevastopol or Khazikstan? before the RR is triggered.

      Do they have to leave?
