RE: What extra pieces I need
FYI, HBG has a few sets of chips up for purchase. They appear to be going quick!

RE: Extra pieces needed to make this realistically playable
You will need more chips for sure. If I am not mistaken all the dark red are used up just for the setup. I just purchased two orders worth from HGB a couple of days a go.

RE: Straights of Gibralter and Danish Straights
I have not received my copy yet to read up on the rules, but what you are describing sounds like the canal rule. I am assuming you must controle both sides in order to pass through?

RE: Battle of Midway
It seems to me that this one one of those exceptionally rare ocassions that each of those groups played a critical role in the outcome. I would have to say that if so much as one aspect changed due to any of the them, the outcome could have and would have been far different. This would be especialy true as you get closer to the start of the chain of events with code breaking. It comes down to each set of people being in the right place and at the right time to make the battle go as it it did.

US income question
Page 21 - National Objectives & Bonus Income - United States: The second sentence of the first bullet point should read “This wartime economy takes effect during the first U.S. turn that follows an unprovoked Japanese attack on any Allied-controlled ship or territory (not including China or the French territories), or on the U.S.’s third turn, whichever comes first.” (If the United Kingdom or ANZAC attacks Japan first, Japan may respond without bringing the United States into the war.)
I am looking to see if I understand the above correctly:
-
If Japan should attack the US on turn 1, the US does not collect its extra 40 bonus until round 2 of its collect income phase?
-
On round three, if not attacked by Japan, the US does collect its extra 40 income, therefore being able to spend it round 4 to purchase units?
-
If Japan attackes the US on round 3, the US does not get the actual extra 40 income until its collect income phase in round 4?
My apaolgies if I am beating a dead horse, but I just need to make sure I fully understand the rule.

Blockade?
If I remember correctly, even when not at war the allied powers may not move through waters that contains a Japanse surface warship. So, if that is true, Japan could place ships around the Dutch islands as to try and prevent them from being taken? This would help to prevent the ANZAC/GB powers from aquiring additional funds unless they attack & go to war with Japan. If one wanted as Japan, you could attempt to form a blackade accross as much as possible in the Pacific. Of course Japan would need to be ready to go to war with ANZAC/GB should it turn hostile. Does anyone see this idea as having any merit?

RE: What power is your favorite to play?
I went with:
Japan-I am a big fan of naval power and their situation allows for some fun and creative manuvering (and they historically had interesting units). Also, the game situates them so you need to make some inportant choices on where to focus your strength (lots of variation)
UK-Very similar thoughts with Japan. The challange is prtecting a vast empire all the while having a very significant fight close to home.
Italy-Something new is always exciting. While initially limited there is potential for some game changing manuvers. Of course they start with a nice little fleet.

Since I live outside of Atlantic City NJ, I am curious to know where in the Philly area you play as I would like to sometime get out that way to play.

Amphibious Assault question
So I had an issue come up that was new to me this weekend. I was battling it out against my father and he wanted to try out something I had not seen before. He was looking to make an amphibious assault by landing a tank in one of my unoccupied territories…no problem there. The issue was when he tried to make a blitz into an adjacent territiory that I own and that was unoccupied. Do the rules allow for such a move (land and continue…both territories are unoccupied)?

RE: United Eastern front
As the Allies I try to stay off Russian soil unless there is a dire need to reinforce Russia. What I find to be more effective is to first have the UK take Norway and finland and when the fleet is strong enough to survive air attacks I keep hitting Poland with them. This way I can at least reduce what the German army has there so that Russia can take it herself and obtain the 10 additional production certs. I will also try to throw off Germany by hiting up either France or NW Europe from time to time. Of course the US slowly builds up an invasion force to 1st hit Africa then up to France after that. I try basically try to get the Germans to split thier forces to fight at least two fronts.

RE: Are there national advantages in aa50?
I more than agree with templeton on the freedom to players idea. I appreciate the game offers a nice historical point of view, but it is the idea of being able to do the “what if” playing that makes it really exciting.

RE: Just How Old Are We Axis and Allies Players?
I started out in 1990 if I am not mistaken. I was 14 when I played my 1st game. I remember finding the game on a shelf at Toys R Us at the time. I absolutley could not believe such a wonderful game existed at the time. It was better than any Christmas to me. And now they have full naval units to choose from I am in heaven.

RE: Subs when they defend
From my understanding that is correct.

RE: Suggestions for Germany?
I have gone with a 9 Inf (27ipc’s) and 1 Art (4 ipc’s) to use up my max funds and allocation. Get a few men to France and march the rest towards Russia. If you don’t get rid of the majority of UK ships on round one, there is potential for a landing in France or Nothwestern Europe on UK turn one.

RE: Keeping the board(s) together
I was thinking of using post it notes. Just turn them upside down, adhere half to each of the boards (underneath). When done simply remove, no damage to the boards.

Quality of the units
Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that the units seem to be a little “different” than the other games? They seem to either be a little lighter or made with a different type of plastic. I compared battleships between the AAR and AA50 and it just seems that they are smaller in AA50 or something. I noticed it the minute I picked one up.

RE: How do subs work?
Thanx for the good clarification on subs so far. I have one more qyuestion that I don’t think I saw brought up. Since BOTH subs get an opening surprise shot, would it the following scenerio be correct?:
1 Cruiser attacks 1 sub. The defending sub gets a surprise shot 1st on the cruiser (should it choose to fight). If the sub rolls a “1”, the cruiser is dead with no retaliation shot and the sub wins? -
RE: Countdown to AA50
Yea, now it is less than two weeks until the release and still no ads or anymore info. I hope they are not planning on delaying yet again.

Wolfpack ability question
Can I use the wolfpack advantage for each of my German subs, or only one? For example, if i have 4 U66’s can each one of them roll an extra die or only one?
