      @FieldMarshalGames:

      We can not afford to charge once and ship 8 times.

      Is it not the customer who pays the shipping? Why not charge once then ship once when the collection is complete? That’s another whole issue for me since I’m in Canada and would rather avoid shipping a small package 7+ times. Is it not less hassle for everyone this way anyway?

      If the full collection were priced in the $150-$160 range, I could throw that down in a heartbeat. That’s $18.75-$20 per country if there’s 8 sets, a mere $5 discount over the ROMMEL code for investing early. Or, if you want to keep it at $25 keep including the dice for the AAA.org pre-order, just please give us the option of paying up front. I’m sorry if it comes off as rude or if it seems that I’m trying to haggle openly, I just feel this approach is better for everyone including FMG.

      I say do Black first.

      Black… Grey… Pink… None of these colours will matter once my paintbrush gets a hold of these! ;) Even Warhammer freaks will bow in their presence.

      Full pre-order option, PLEASE!!!

      Good GOD that looks incredible! What material is used in these sculpts? It almost looks like a wax…

      More of an observation than a complaint, don’t want to come off as whiney or start any fires: he has the same kind of head thing going on as the infantry but at least it’s consistent. It’s almost like you have different artists sculpting these than the Italians.

      Again, how can I pre-order a whole set? =P

    • RE: How long do your Global 1940 games last?

      @maverick_76:

      This is all good info for me, I bought both of these games on launch and still have not had time to set up Europe or Global and play a game. Plus I’m most likely going to have to buy a bigger table or fashion one myself because our dining room table just won’t fit the board. But by all accounts this is the game I have been waiting for, it sounds absolutely epic!

      And epic it is… You had better like political rules and detailed national objectives! Those Bob A Mickelson PDF’s work wonders for keeping track, hope he updates for Larry’s rules too! =)

      By the way the very first game I played was Europe only, it was good to get a feel for things and still extensively long to play.

    • RE: Newest Setup by Larry

      @gamerman01:

      OOB Malta had NOTHING on it!  Finally people talk sense into him.  I’m frustrated with Larry right now.

      Not so fast. Are you sure that Larry still has 100% control over the design? WotC must have a little blame to share here, even if it’s pushing the product out the door before it’s ready.

      The game is only in its fourth month of release, patience… it’s the most ambitious A&A release to date and it’s completely different than classic or even the original Europe+Pacific since that dynamic changes when you combine the boards, also consider there’s new playables, PRs… NOs… Video games also have balance issues that are patched post-release.

    • How long do your Global 1940 games last?

      Hey all, I’ve played G40 the past 2 weekends in a row.

      First game with 5 guys, standard OOB rules with errata addressed. We put the 2 experienced players as the Axis because we believed it was more of an uphill battle for them, as in Classic. After 8.5 hours we called it around turn 7 (3AM), projecting the Axis victory due to huge momentum (Soviets out and USA/UK failed to make it happen).

      Second game was a 1v1 using Larry’s Alpha+.1 ruleset (which felt a lot more balanced actually!), myself as the Allies and another equally inexperienced player as the Axis. The epic 16 hour game was called at turn 10 (7AM) in favour of the Axis for holding Stalingrad as the final victory city.

      This particular loss was huge upset for the Allies as the final blow of this drawn out game was extremely anti-climatic. A small Italian force of 3 artillery from the South took Stalingrad 3-0 vs a reasonably safe defense with adjacent infantry to support a counterattack. Moscow was to fall next round. The USA was 1 round away from landing in either London or France with a strong force and sweep an empty Europe. The second and final blow to Tokyo was to occur the very next turn (USA). In short, I feel I stayed up all night to lose to an extremely risky attack and hot dice. My fully staged victory invasion was unable to ever take place.

      F.

      Things I am thinking for next time, aside from strategy:

      • To never try and play this game in a single sitting again, unless you set up the night before and start early in the morning. Otherwise I believe it takes at least two sittings to really enjoy it and not destroy your sleep cycle for a week.

      • In Global 1940 I will strongly consider using Low Luck rules solely based of the fact that this game takes an absolute bare minimum of 10 hours to play out completely. It’s not like other (inferior  :-P) dice games where it’s like “LOL hot dice!! That was fun, we should play again 3 or 4 more times before bed.” I have not tried Low Luck yet, is it popular? Tell me how you feel about it.

      @Imperious:

      They are just pieces that we play with and need to be a certain size so its easy to pick up and see on the map. It is no problem if the halftrack is the same size as a tank, though they are not and are a bit smaller than tanks.

      Precisely. It’s a game that needs manipulating, not a scale model display for show.

      One word: functionality. 'Nuff said.

      Maybe the Commander unit gives bonus attack/defense to all units in the area or represents a mobile capital (Kill the “President” variant/scenario/National objective bonus)?

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      The sculpts shown are not final.  There are revisions to them all.  The White Plastic images of Italy are final as they were made right out of the mould.

      Fantastic. Those Italy pieces are exceptional, really looking forward to some house rules with that commander.

      @Rorschach:

      Are you accounting for the fact that the knees are bent considerably, making the figure crouch somewhat?

      Absolutely. My past career was traditional animation, which involves extensive training in life drawing. I have experience in this area, just backing my statement by explaining sight measurement as a method of proof. I can tell at a glance this isn’t realistic proportion, it doesn’t take a genius to see the inconsistency in style.

      Yes, it’s very cool, just doesn’t jive with Italy.

      FMG awesome vehicles there, not sure why you want to distract from the fact that your infantry is wonky though, it’s your money tell them to fix it =P

      Sorry but the German’s head is WAY too big… using rough sight measurement (artist’s method for determining proportion), while accounting for the height of the helmet as well, he is around 5.5 heads tall, where the “average person is generally 7-and-a-half heads tall (including the head).” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_drawing (sorry about the nude dudes, lol)

      FMG, I would send it back to be revised because the style is inconsistent with Italy’s.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      I absolutely admire the enormous, costly project FMG is taking on here.

      I would like to financially support this endeavour by pre-ordering, however it seems that pre-ordering individual sets at the premium rate will likely cost me a lot more in the long run than waiting for the entire package. Why should early adopters pay a premium over people who sit back and wait for the entire collection?

      Would it not make more sense to accept pre-orders for the whole package (more money up front), than to try and work in stages? This is also a greater incentive for people to support the project early. Even at the individual pre-order rate of $30/set + shipping it looks like the collection will cost over $200. At regular price $40/set, that’s well over $250! I love the game but I just think that will put too many people off from buying what is essentially plastic bling.

      I thought the original $60/set seemed a bit low. In my opinion the $100-120 price point shouldn’t be too unreasonable. At the $120 price point you would be getting 4 out of 6 countries worth of income (at the current $30) up front per person, not bad if you ask me…
