RE: Russia - North or South?
i always invade north, as its easier to reinforce, leningrad always falls very quickly and gives a nice cash bonus.
it also sways the soviet player from trying to invade finland and norway…
but i also send a lot of infantry south and keep my planes in range in case i need to attack… -
RE: When do your games end?
we will play till we notice that one side (either axis or allies) is so messed up that they cant win or theyre chances of winning are very low…
-
RE: Newbie needs strategies
what do you mean beats you on the 1st round? no one looses in just one round, be more specific…

RE: Japan
@urmomsmom7:
I don’t know. I’ve won every game since I started ignoring China so I don’t know. How do you guys take over China?
i use the planes that i do not have on carriers and the few infantry i have at first to wipe out as many chinese as possible, especially around the burma road, i do not put any extra resources into a chinese campaing once i loose momentum y pull back to the high paying territories and defend them i might reinforce japanese troops in china on J 4 - 6 depending on how i am doing in the other areas…

RE: Japan
Your Japanese Fleet, consisting of 4 Carrier, 1 Battleship, 8 Fighter will have to fight most likely:
1 Bomber, 1 Tac, 5 Fighter, 2 Battleships, 2 Carrier, 2 Destroyer, 2 Crusier, 1 Sub (another figther, Destroyer and sub is likely and at least one mor ship).
You need to bring another 4 ships (2 crusier, 2 destroyer) or it will be close.first combat round:
Japan scores 9@4 ~ 6, 4@2 ~ 1 (7 hits)
US scores: 3@4 ~ 2, 7@3 ~ 3, 3@2 ~ 1 (6 hits)second round: (all capital ships hit once and one carrier sunk):
JAPAN: 9@4 ~ 6, 3@2 ~ 1 (7 hits)
USA (2 Carrier Sunk, 1 battleship hit, 2 destroyer sunk):
US: 3@4 ~ 2, 7@3 ~ 4, 1@2 ~0 (6 hits) (7@3 ~3,5 hits, in two turns of combat 7 hits, oce 3 once 4)Leaves: Japan looses: 3 Carrier and 3 Fighter, US looses: 2 Crusier, 1 Sub and 4 fighter
Japan: 6@4 ~ 4 hits
US: 3@4 ~ 2hits, 1@3 ~0.5
Leaves the Japanese navy with 1 damaged battleship, and 2 Fighter. This navy cant threaten an attack on Australia and will give the UK Player the oportunity to start an large scale attack on Japan and its remaining small fleet, while the US can and will build up another large Navy relatively fast (much more income than Japan).
I thikn, this is the way to loose the pacific fast to the allies, and therefore to loose the game, because the US only needs to invet 2 more turns to secure the pacific and then can focus on Europe.
my 2 cents
the US should onlye have 1 carrier and 1 battleship standing at hawwaii i will recheck the charts anyway, either way assuming my fleet gets beaten down very bad the Us can get back in the water in 2 turns… but that’s 2 turns with little or no purchases in the Atlantic. i will reassess this stategy and see how it goes next time.

RE: Japan
this is what i tried my last game playing as japan ( this works very well if you know it the US player builds up his fleet around Hawaii) otherwise its at your risk (this was done on Alpha 3)
J1: i buy a transport and a carrier, then load up 2 planes, attack china at yunaan and some of the northern territories. non combat load up the transport in sea zone 19 and 20(with troops from china) and move to seazone 36
the fleets in sea zone 6 and 33 stay in position.
J2: i would buy 3 transports and whatever’s left in infantry.
i declare war on all the powers including usa… if the usa moved its starting fleet to hawwai you can hit him with you fleet consisting of 4 carriers 8 planes a battleship and a few small ships… vs… 1 carrier 1 battleship and maybe 2 - 3 scramblers at most… you can take out the whole us fleet with very little losses on a average roll…( i lost 1 carrier the small ships and 1 tac bomber)
if the fleet is not there ill hit them anyways and take hawwaii sometimes the us player might even think in counteratacking right away and it ends up pretty bad for them anyways.
the point is if you wipe them from hawwaii the us player will need to rethink his strategy since he has to buy on 2 fronts. The anzac player didint think on moving beyond 1 turn from australia fearing i would go down there and invade from hawwaii (it takes 2 turns to get there but they just stayed in the spot fearing they would get wiped out since no US help was coming anytime soon)while i do this the rest of my fleet takes phillipines, borneo, i also move in into french indo china - invade kwangtung- and made some small attacks on china.
the thing is if you can get the US fleet before it becomes too big you can actually dominate the pacific the transports you buy on j2 can catch up to your returning fleet and head either to sydney or india…

RE: Need help with my Barbarossa
if there are still strategic bombers available, they should be sent to bomb the USSR, they usually have their fighters in one spot so just bomb any defenseless factory…
-
RE: Italy in Russia
i would build a tank with italy on I1 and move the existing one in northern italy and albania to romania and move in behind the germans, sometimes the soviet player might leave one or very few units blocking the way to moscow, for which i use those unites to remove any obstacles and allowing the german player to do a blitz (sometimes even to moscow), the russian might still have many units and can take moscow back but most of the time if pulled off properly you can cripple the russian.

RE: Invasion of Britain
a carrier dosent that cost 18? and a fighter 12?.. thats 30… how do you get for 4 infantry, probably with bids but i dunno
-
RE: The Kwangtung Maneuver
anyways this move dosent work on a russia restricted game…
-
RE: Spread Thin or Build Up?
I know it’s probably safer to build up forces and then attack, especially if you have the time. But I think the game is more fun when you use everything, every time, everywhere.
What do you think?
well i think that depends on the circumstances, sometimes i have to spread thin other time i need to build up, depends on each strategy and the oportunities you see on the map

RE: Allied options in 8 point game
@The:
Thanks for the response, We had a 4 man game on Friday and the allies actually won the 8 point victory. (due to newer German player and some bad purchases). It does appear that unless you have some real breakdowns for the Axis there is no hope for the Allies.
We will probably stay away from the 8 point victories from now on.
By the way I would also like to get info on some alternate setups.
yeah id also like info on some alternate setups… it would be cool to setup the game diferently every once in a while

RE: India I.C.
i dont like the idea to place a IC in india in Uk1, whenever im playing japan and i see the allied players do that i just hit india on J1 and that messes up the allied strategy big time, i skip pearl and go for india, there is nothin more useful than a free IC. in the following turns ill use my flees to fight the americans.

RE: Something really funny
for all those non-math people out there that’s about a 1 in 460 chance. that’s pretty unlikely but i’ve seen a lot worse.
ive played a lot of games, ive senn all kinda weird stuff, like las sunday i played a game with a friend i was the allies i didint score a single hit during the first turn of england, america, and the second turn of russia and england after that i conceded, the german transports has already taken a toll of 3 fighters and 2 bombers, thats %$#"%$ up luck.
-
RE: Something really funny
i remember once i was playing germany and the U.S. player had heavy bombers, i was basicly cornered in berlin, the U.S player threw me 3 bombers, and i rolled 3 ones, 2 turns later he did the same thing, and i rolled 2 ones. by that time the japanese player had just entered moscow.

RE: Carrier question…..
As i just recently started playing this great boardgame, a lot of questions regarding rules have come up. Since the rules are somewhat confusing from time to time i would like to ask other players instead, so here goes…
The situation is the US attacking a japanese battleship in seazone 60 of the coast of Tokyo with a smaller fleet from Hawaii. This fleet consists of among other, a carrier with 2 fighters on it. My question is…can i launch the 2 fighters towards zone 60 (2 move) then let the empty carrier sail alongside the rest of the fleet from Hawaii to engage in battle (1 att.) in the same zone (60), and at the same time fly 2 landbased fighters from Western USA (i think…do not have the board with me) also attacking the battleship in seazone 60 (4 move for the fighters) ?
In the following non-combat move, the plan is to let the 2 fighters from the carrier fly back to Hawaii to land, and let the other 2 fighters from the W.USA land on the carrier in seazone 60 after the battle, despite the risk of the carrier being lost in battle ?
Is all of this possible…i mean, it will not be a deliberate “suiciderun” for the fighters since i plan for the carrier to be in the same zone as the fighters at the non-combat turn ?yes that move is perfectly allowed, its ok as long as you have where to land all your aircraft at the moment that you assign all attacking units

RE: What should Japan attack.
what i usually do, in j1, is pearl with a sub 2 fighters a carrier and a battlleship, attack alaska with 2 inf with transport from japan(only if the inf from eastern canada was not sent to alaska), send transport from philipines and remaining battleship to australia, and use bomber and the gang from kwantung to take out china, if by chance the russians haven combined their forces in the east then i attack yakut ssr or soviet far east with gang from manchuria and a few fighters

RE: Heads Up
@F_alk:
Honestly, your faqs are quite worthless.
In principle you write:
- attack an enemy somewhere
- attack this or another enemy somewhere else
- win game
You don’t elaborate why your proposed moves are strategically sound and better compared to other strategies. You totally lack the tactical aspect of how these attacks are to be made. Even worse, you assume options that plain do not exist in the game(like buying units for the commonwealth nations).
Better follow my FAQ, valid for any nations:
- roll only ones
- win game
much shorter, and valid for everyone … this must be a better faq :)
totally agree.

RE: How to be Germany.
going after the us first with the axis wont work, cause germany aint got any resources to efectively reach the us, and japan is too far away, if you focus your cash to attack usa, then by turn 3 or 4 russia should have already killed you.
one usually goes after russia first because its right in between the 2 axis powers and its easier to reach them, and take away their territories, enhancing the axis money.my strat with the axis is basicly this one,
Germany: a) fight for africa, the money is worth it, b) place some tanks to invade russia, c) if possible harrass the allied fleet with planes to take down any transports to prevent any invasions.Japan: a) avoid the us from sending a fleet to take my islands, b) Blitz through asia and take valuable ipc to then take down russia.
