      If KGF presents itself, what is your US1 buy?

      Hard to say - all depends on the magnitude of the threat from Germany.

      Going full KGF with a pretty standard German opening round means that the sea zone next to Algeria is threatened by 2 subs 3-5 figs and a bomber.

      I almost always buy an AC + Destroyer.
      Maybe also a Fighter (UK maybe require 1-2 figs on their AC).
      this leaves room for 1 transport + 1 tank

      I often land in Algeria with 4 units round 1 - meaning I sacrifice the two transports.

      Giving me the possibility to move in next with AC + 2 figs + cruiser +2 dd and maybe join up with the UK navy.

      Germany can beat this, but not likely without substantial losses, if they do my next buy will be similar, and reach Europe together with the pacific battleship.

      How often do you hold back attack forces?

      Almost never. In fact, one of my specialities is the widdle. I will attack a superior infantry stack if I have enough hardware that can retreat to a safe position.

      Aw.  Cute widdle infantriez.

      Don’t make fun of my spelling and I won’t make fun of your corny jokes.

      @Mr.Biggg:

      Alright, my roommate and I just had another game with what I would called excellent Russian and US play(I was playing axis), and two IC’s were still ultimately unstoppable. Russia traded ground for a while, but in the end Japan couldn’t be held back. US devoted enough Navy to get in and take an undefended Indonesia and build an IC on it, but was retaken by Japan a couple turns later. I need to have a play by forum game against a really good allied player to show me this can really be stopped (without completely ignoring Germany). Hobbes you in?

      No play by forum for me. Sorry.

      Can a transport unload in the same sea zone as an enemy sub?

      @football2006:

      Just so I’m not second guessing myself, if there was a destroyer blocking you, you could still perform an amphibious assault if you aided the transport with fighters, right?

      you can always make an amphibious assault with a transport… as long as the attacker wins whatever naval combat occurs in the SZ.  if a Destroyer and a transport attack a SZ for amp assault and there is an enemy destroyer there, combat occurs.  as long as the enemy is sunk, you can continue to amp assault the territory.  If its survives then your transports are sunk as they do not have any combat (or defense) roll.

      Not true, the attacking TRN can retreat.

      After the combat round is finished, yes it can retreat.

      But there are a lot of weird situations: imagine there’s a SZ containing an enemy sub and a destroyer and that you send the transport to make a landing, along with 2 fighters to clear the SZ. Since the enemy sub can’t hit the planes if it rolls a hit on 1 you’ll have to remove the transport as a casualty.
