I know US makes a lot of money but risking bombers to take out destroyers that are being replaced every turn seems like it could have some drawbacks

Ideas for updating my G40 mapposted in House Rules
I have two ideas which I think will change strategy for multiple countries and be historically accurate.
1: Azores in SZ 103 (90 would work but too close to West Indies in my opinion).
This feeds into Hitler’s fantasy of bombing US with long range bombers.
It’s also a great naval base for all Europe countries.
And US can long range bomb Europe from there.- Diego Garcia in SZ 78. Pretty much all the same high points as Azores but in Pacific.
Azores will be strict neutral like Portugal.
Diego feels like it should be Pro Allied Neutral but UK didn’t take it over until 1942 so strict neutral is best choice.
What do you guys think?
And what additional missing map territories might improve the game?

Unless US takes say Iwo Jima I don’t know how their bombers will even threaten destroyers patrolling Asian coast. They shouldn’t have Philippines at that point of game. Maybe Malaya? But by the time they might get there Malaya should be taken.
What am I missing?

I enjoy my solo games but playing with other humans would be nice

UK1 they land Rio de Oro turning all strict neutrals pro axis.
Can Russia take Afghanistan after and get $3 NO for taking a pro Axis neutral?
I feel like answer is yes and a new strategy will be in the works if so.

My newest Japan strategyposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I wasn’t planning this but in solo game I’m playing now, I bought a destroyer J4 and then bought one destroyer every single turn after.
I realized a few turns later that the US sub convoy strategy was DOA.
Constantly reading about a destroyer chasing around sub convoys but loading up on destroyers means they will never convoy.
Italy could use a similar strategy but probably would never work unless Germany doing it from Southern France.

If Japan were to take say New Guinea, is that a sneaky way to strip Anzac of both NO’s since New Guinea is originally controlled Anzac territory?
-
RE: My favorite turn 1 buildsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Yes Anzac needs to help. Calcutta is going to fall regardless so either abandon it for Persia or set up a six plane scramble and make Japan lose lots of expensive equipment. If you are just building infantry Japan won’t even lose a plane.
A fun strategy is to drop AB on Borneo and get two inf and at least 3 fighters on it turn one. It creates a large expensive distraction if Japan wants the money islands

Ceylon. But Malaya and Borneo could be fun too.
Now getting six fighters to India before Japan is the issue

Just give it a try. You will be shocked how much opens up for Russia
-
RE: My favorite turn 1 buildsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
US really depends on that game. A stack of fighters can cause havoc in different ways on both sides.

RE: My favorite turn 1 buildsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’m daring Germany to attempt Sea Lion.
Russia is my turn 1 buy every game now after discovering it almost by accident one game. Russia should buy one bomber every turn after. Their vast movement makes their offense terrifying for Axis. I was able to wipe out the massive German stack on R5 with 5 SB’s and everything else (should have been 6 SB but lost one bombing Romanian factory).
Germany should smell the rat and avoid Sea Lion. If so one tactic to deploy is UK and Russia each hitting the two major IC’s every turn

My favorite turn 1 buildsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
These are not necessarily my common builds but some are
G1: 2 SB’s 1 Tank
R1: 3 SB’s, save $1
J1: 2 MIC’s, save $2
US1: 5 fighters, save $2
C1: 4 inf
UKE1: 2 SB’s, save $4
UKP1: Air Base, save $2
I1: 1 tank, 1 mech
ANZ1: 1 fighter
F1: LOL -

G1: invade Yugoslavia and ping pong to Romania and leave Yugo for Italy.
Does this attack change the political situation in Yugoslavia from Friendly Allied Neutral to Allied At War Neutral?
Does this change in political situation allow for the fighter on Malta to land in Yugo turn one?
I feel like I read about this situation or saw it in a video but I can’t find this situation addressed in the rule book.
Thank you

RE: ITALY INVADES IRELANDposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I just finished round 7 and this game is insane now
Germany captured its 8th victory city but Russia immediately captured Warsaw and liberated Stalingrad. So the war continues.

I just posted G5 where Germany took Turkey

For people saying USSR should buy 6 tanks R1 I’m here to tell you what you should really buy.
3 Strategic Bombers

ITALY INVADES IRELANDposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I was chewing on some new ideas for G1. I decided to set up the board and roll it and see how it works.
Like a butterfly flapping its wings in America causing a tsunami in Japan, that one change caused four other countries to make unusual turn one buys, and weird areas of the board seeing play.
Quite a few things I’ve never seen before have happened in first 3 turns. Italy invading Ireland may be my favorite of all time.
I’m about to roll G4 and figured I’d finally share so you guys can follow my live updates for rest of game. I’m ripping multiple vids daily
I want to post some of the really weird stuff but I prefer you watch it.

RE: Best way to help Italy?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Send subs to take out UK cruiser in 93
Kill the boats in 93 G1 and land the planes in Southern Italy. 2 German planes (if both survived attack on French fleet) now available to scramble against Taranto.
G1 - don’t land any planes in West Germany (air base) and leave the 1 trns you start with unprotected in SZ 113. The only thing that can hit the unprotected trns is the UK bomber. If they take the bait (lots of people can’t help but go after unprotected trns), then that bomber can’t take part in Taranto.
Italy needs to land in Syria turn one. ignore Egypt. You can take Egypt later.
If UK using Gibastion strat, Italy will have 2 good options on I1
-
If you would like to do a Sealion, send your entire fleet to Syria and land your two tanks/two inf on Syria. UK will cross the med with their planes and prob their boats too. Germany buys a bunch of trns next turn and UK too far away to do anything about it.
-
If you are not planning on Sealion, send your entire fleet to Syria and land troops on both Syria and Cyprus. Cyprus will prevent the ftrs on Gibraltar for attacking your boats. Cyprus will most likely deny UK NO for rest of game so that’s good too. (this assumes UK didn’t activate Greece).
hmmm, UK should activate Greece turn one if doing Gibastion. planes can land there if Cyprus taken

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
UK1, the SZ 111 fleet was spared. Germany dropped an AB in Holland with 3 ftrs, 110 is empty.
On UK noncombat phase they move the 111 fleet to 110.
Can the Germans scramble?
Reading the rule book and this forum it seems the answer is no, since it is non combat. Rule book constantly mentions combat over and over so I assume you can’t scramble during noncombat.
Seems weird but that’s how I am reading the rules.
