@surfer 2 German subs were hanging out in SZ 90 and 88. As soon as UK attacked Italian fleet in 93 the German subs slid into 92. UK lost most of their boats so no destroyers left. Germany had a NB at Gib now so nowhere for the UK fleet to hide. I think I might have also bought sub(s) in Southern france same turn.

Yugo was attacked already but not yet taken by Axis so UK fleet went there with whatever they could carry and the ftr to cause havoc in the Balkans which they were able to do for another two turns if I remember correctly. UK left a trns and boat behind so they went and took Sicily since they could only move two spots. And UK had one extra trns with nothing to do so He just moved two spots to Cairo and luckily was spared next turn so made it to Suez.

G4, 5 trns and fully loaded AC moved to 92. G5 a bunch of tanks, mechs and inf left Spain/Gib to take Cairo and give Italy some breathing room. Tanks and mechs then liberated Albania from Russia with 3 inf left behind to collect NO and support Italy.

4 trns invaded Sweden to prevent Russia from getting a bunch of free inf as they had Finland and to restore the German NO.

I just had a game where France activated Turkey F1

If Russia bought a transport R1 for Ukraine, could they ask France for permission to use the Turkish straights R2 while not at war?

Same answer for Suez R3 if still not at war?

I assume Russian troops on boats doesn’t violate neutrality

I played out entire game to see if Felix would be the Axis downfall. As badly as I played Italy (so bad) and Germany doing this strategy it still worked.

Felix kept America out of Europe until US took Norway turn 7 in prep for London liberation which may not have happened because Germany had like 17 inf in London

The Iberian peninsula was an absolute fortress so US couldn’t come usual way.

Russia became a monster during this game which had more to do with Sea Lion than Felix. I learned for future to attack Russia same turn as London to get some breathing space.

Because of the Russian bear Japan was going to have to win the game and they did taking Sydney and then Hawai was going to be next. Allies conceded US8 before London could be liberated

@surfer said in Ideas on a counter?:

@Cornwallis Gibastion. Make a fortress at Gibraltar with the fleet and (typically) an airbase.
Prevents Sealion because you can get back to UK as a block and all those transports can’t do anything.
      Prevents Italian NO.
Protects Egypt as the Italians can’t go without the UK Med fleet stomping them.

It will eventually link with the US and ferry troops across.

I just developed a counter strategy to Gibastion for the Axis.

Algerian Snake barely works and cripples Italy for the game and Germany loses bombers finishing up the maneuver.

Operation Felix flips Gibastion on its head and guarantees a super easy Sea Lion as well as a fortress in both Spain and Gibraltar to block USA from coming right in.
You can spare trns to take Eire and Scotland to deny landing spots for American bombers. And London becomes a fortress too with 11 trns ready to shuck inf to London when America comes calling.
      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/42427/operation-felix

I played Italy and to a lesser extent Germany so badly trying out this strat but it still worked as planned. I learned from all of my mistakes so next time doing this strat should be much much better I believe.

I decided to have America go right to liberate London but because of the large amount of units Germany had in London had to spend a few turns building up fleet and enough trns to credibly take London back. That was turn 8. In hindsight, America should have abandoned Europe and gone right for the Pacific. (although prior game, America abandoned Europe to go for Pacific and it ended very badly for the allies so I decided to go London this game… also to a disaster lol)

      @Cornwallis

R1: buy 3 SB’s (and buy one SB every turn after)
UK1: buy 2 SB’s. bomb W German Air Base with original bomber first turn.
      .
When both Russia and UK at war together, level both German Major IC’s every single turn if need be.

This will grind Germany to a halt. They will have to pay $20-$40 every turn

If Germany immediately goes for Sea Lion due to UK not putting land units turn one, send 3 bombers and 4 ftrs to sink their navy, including all the trns. You can position MED AC at Gibraltar to catch two ftrs, but if that is not an option then buy 2 AC’s turn two so you can send four ftrs. If you don’t sink the trns, you will have wiped out all of the warships and/or some planes and now will have two AC’s (possibly more boats depending on what happened) with a UK ftr, tac, and French ftr blocking the landing.

Germany will most likely not have any boats left, maybe one. They are going to have to send all of their planes to clear the new fleet in 110 so Sea Lion is either dead in the water or a phryic victory.

Make sure to keep Scotland protected - no freebees. And if London does fall, it will be with very limited ground units so UK should be able to take it right back with units from Scotland.

    • Can we discuss USA strategy?

I have no one to play with so I just crush solo games to play around with different strategies and such.

For whatever reason I fail miserably when playing America.

I played last few games using GHG’s London Calling and it failed every time. I tried Green Skies and got destroyed.

One problem I recognized is my impatience. I’m flying across ocean as soon as I can and then losing my fleets.

My last game (Operation Felix) I decided to be patient and wait until turn 5 to cross the ocean with fleets that will survive. Well I arrived too late and Axis won Pacific victory city win

The most powerful nation I fail at repeatedly. To the point where several games in a row Axis won by taking North America

So how do you play America?

I’m at a loss here. It seems Italy plays better than America most games.

Last game US took Caroline Islands with its large fleet. Japan was playing a weird strategy and had boats everywhere instead of one large fleet so next turn they put a boat on every single SZ adjacent to Caroline and dropped boats on SZ’s next to Hawaii and had a lot of fully loaded transports to take Hawaii and keep it for turn. All that patience and I still lost.

So what am I doing wrong? Even when I change strategies radically I still lose every time.

I know no one believes me but investing in bombers as Russia completely changes the typical game flow. G1 is only way Germany will even sniff Moscow and even then Germany will most likely fail. They will get wiped out in Bryansk or be left with only a couple land units so lots of planes being lost to take Moscow. Far East troops and a wave of bombers will immediately take back Moscow.

My Operation Felix game Russia used all their bombers on offense and collected $66 for 3 straight turns.

That taught me I have to attack Russia same turn as Sea Lion to create a buffer because otherwise Russia is getting Eastern Europe and all of the Balkans and its going take 3-5 turns to kick them out

      @SirWhiskers

I believe Anzac DOW on turn two is fairly standard so they can collect $10 in NO. This is the first game where I immediately took Solomon Islands to strip them of both NO’s and I liked the results. Normally Anzac becomes a menace but they were immediately put on their heels and Japan decided to kill Anzac first. US spent first 3 turns building in Atlantic so couldn’t help for a few turns

Sure UK might not fall for this trap, but in my experience learning 110 alone seems to guarantee Gibastion every time. I left 109 and 91 alone to make it too juicy I think for UK not to do Gibastion. If UK doesn’t fall for trap I would be disappointed but just move on and not attack Spain turn one. I may still do it turn 3 depending on what is happening

Not making vids for every single country really speeds things up as this game completed in two weeks instead of one month

      @SirWhiskers

I greatly appreciate your thoughtful response and that you watched some of the vids.

This is my first time trying out this strategy and everyone gets to watch what happens at same time as me. I learned a lot so if I were to trot out Felix again it will go better. I played Italy so horribly first two turns and made some bad mistakes as Germany.

The Italian fleet was completely wiped out on UK2 if that’s a concern for you.

Playing solo, I always play Red Skies with Russia (3 SB’s R1, and 1 SB every turn after). This is probably my 4th game playing Red Skies; previously I played Red Skies defensively - just counterattacks and then the final battle in Bryansk. This game i went all out offense with Red Skies and Russia had all of Eastern Europe and the Balkans collecting $21 in NO every turn. Because Germany went Sea Lion they didn’t have much to hold back Russia and took 3 turns to finally kick Russia out… only to have Russian come right back in and collect $9. Russia is a monster this game. They even started sending armies to liberate Chinese territories.

Anzac declared war turn 2 and Japan took Solomon Islands J3 to take away both NO’s and dropped subs and boats to convoy immediately putting pressure on Anzac and Japan decided to kill Australia first.

As far as whether to have France or UK take the Turkish troops I think it’s a wash. If no Sea Lion, then sure great, 8 UK troops to protect the Persian factory, but the French troops can do that too.
Don’t have to worry about it with this strat because Italy going for Spain but if Italy could take Greece at same time, then Germany can take Turkey before UK2 so France better in that case.

The not declaring war on Russia as well as not taking the NO to make russia choose between $5 and having those free troops on their soil will really make someone think on how to respond.

I’m constantly thinking of out of the box strategies to try in this game because just doing the same thing over and over is boring.

Red Skies - Russia (wave of bombers)
Land of the Rising Tanks - Japan (strat to take Calcutta with no boats)

I used both these strats this game

I have the board set up for US8 now but realized the game is over. Japan is going to take Hawaii J9 and they already have blockers set up to protect it until J10 so I think the allies will concede now so I can get to my next crazy strategy.

I have the battle strip set up for London so that stinks.

My next series of strategy videos is going to be for the UK and I think people might be even more panicky over that strat than this one giving away free infantry.

      @zlefin

My videos are me playing the entire world to see what happens when I give away so many free infantry

J8 positioned to take VC 6 in Hawaii with boats currently staggered to keep out large American fleet for two turns

Since G3, Germany has been gasping for air trying to knock Russia out of Europe. Russia collected $21 in NO 3 straight turns before Germany finally kicked them out but Russia came right back in and collected $9 in NO.

So Germany ain’t winning this game for another 10 turns. And America going to liberate London next turn (US8) so Germany probably never winning this game.

Japan went Australia first so FEC became a monster. US took Caroline turn 7 with all its boats. Japan used Sydney and Tokyo naval bases to launch boats to all spaces between Caroline and Hawaii and bought 3 fully loaded transports to join transports coming from Sydney. Hawaii is going to fall and America has multiple blockers to get through so this game over J10

My vids are typically under 10 minutes a pop so not like I’m asking you to read War And Peace

I cover Afghanistan in my videos. Turns out much less of an issue than Turkey free troops.

I’m on turn 8 and only 5 French troops in Caucasus left out of the 14 so the worry about free troops is much larger than reality

I guess you didn’t watch the videos. I cover loss of NO and many other consequences of turn one neutral hit.

One thing I did as Axis is not declare war on Russia to keep the free infantry out of Russia as long as possible.

I also didn’t place a warship in 125 to give Russia choice of $5 or allied units on its soil.

Playing solo I passed on the $5 but I know some people would go for $5
