    • RE: Event cards

      I have produced a set of 54 cards, (copyright c 2008)
They include historial Generals with special tactical abilities to be used for one turn, then returned to the draw pile, ( which is shuffled prior to drawing each “purchase units” phase).
Other cards give strat bombers an exra die for clear weather, capture of enemy equipment (capture of one tank or artillery piece from a victorious battle). Bad weather reduces attacks by one attack point for every unit attacking! ( Russian Winter) and fighter drop tanks that give them one turn of exta movement. Still other cards give a certain number of infantry units an extra NCM for train/truck transport. Paradrops, troop ships and better torpedoes upgrades for a turn are also found in the cards. A few cards are perminent once played, and a few can be played against an attacker! Up to 2 cards my be kept at any one time for defense or future attack options, and yes, they may be played all at once as these abilities were used suddenly to achieve great results historically, (that is if you get the good die rolls they deserve).
The use of these cards will alter game plans somewhat from the usual AA game, but like any game and game strategy, you must adapt or die. I think that the adaptable players will love the new options these cards provide for them, and trying to be prepaired for defending against them.
These cards are a must for those players that are ready to try something interresting and new with Axis and Allies.

And as always, Happy Gaming! :-)

    • RE: Funny side stories of WWII thread

My dad was a B17 ball turrent gunner in the 8th Airforce. While he was stationed in England he and the other crewmen would get together in the club between missions and drink cases of beer. So much so that they would stack the cans in the middle of the room in a pyrimid 5 or 6 feet high!
At sometime late in the evening their C.O. would come running into the room and dive head first into the pile of cans!
Everyone would cheer and go back to the barracks to sleep it off.
One night and new squadron came into the club early and started the stacking before the veterans got there, the pile was qutie large already so everyone tried to catch up to them by drinking a lot more quickly than usual, but what they did not know was that the new crews had started the stack around and on top of a table!
As usual the C.O. charged into the room and dived head first into the hugh stack!
Yep, he suffered a concussion, and then forbid the stacking of beer cans in the club for the rest of the war.  :-P

The more resouces used in the Pacific means the less used in Europe, which helps Germany. Allies never want to take the pressure off of Germany, NEVER!

    • RE: Reasonable Turn 1 German Ship Builds

I will occasionally buy the DD on G1. It does deter the UK from attacking, if they are paying attention, sometimes they miss it and pay dearly for the mistake ;)
When I have deferred Egypt for the Gibralter attack on G1 the UK usually goes to India, which allows for an easy attack on Egypt in G2. Which makes things a bit harder for Japan for 3 or 4 turns in FIC.
The fleet unification for Germany is a loser, every time, but it can buy Germany a few turns of not having to defend W.E or Norway and Karilia with much land troops, which means more can go east ;)

    • RE: Most Surprising First Round purchases you have seen?

I was Japan and my German partner bought an IC for W.E. and a BB for the Baltic fleet on G1! I almost had a heart attack! Then on G2 he bought a CV and a fighter.  I had a cow with that one. Then he lost the Med fleet by coming out into the Atlantic too early,Gerrrr……
I had to work very hard to take out Russia and win the game before Germany was taken.

    • RE: What should Japan do in a KJF game?

IMO, if I’m playing Japan and it is looking like a KJF coming, I buy a carrier and 3 subs to add to my combined fleet in front of Japan when the US/UK fleets are two sea zones away. I don’t build any more expesive ICs, but use my 4 transports to feed troops into Manchuria.

But, to get back to the ORIGINAL TOPIC, As the German player, I know the pressure is off of me to defend, so I buy more tanks than normal and press hard on Russia, because someone has to

      Hitler assassinated!
I believe that Herr Hitler was the neuclear fuel that powered the war machine of conquest. Without him at the heart of everything I don’t think the rest of the leaders/followers of the Nazi regime had the will/fortitude to continue the war, and I think that they would have used his removal as a bid to a ceasefire.

    • RE: Combat moves and sea units

:-o No your not, I’m crazy around here!
Anyway, to the issure at hand. When playing on line the program will not let you forget that units were moved in the combat phase, and can not be moved again in the non-combat phase. This is the purpose for the OOB rules in a table top game, to help avoid confusion, hopefully
But, it really does not make any difference at all if units are moved in the combat phase and not into a combat situation, in fact, it saves time. The downside to this is, if you want to change your mind where you want them to go after combat is done, too bad, their movement is done.  :-P
So, play it however you think is best for you, but don’t get your shorts all in a bunch when other players, (like me) do obvious NCM in the CM phase, OK.

    • RE: Why did China have a nonresistance policy?

      :|
It is difficult to speculate on this issue, but if I were to, then my guess would be that the Nationalists did not want several hundreds of thousands of troops and their families pouring into the western Provinces of China, just too many mouths to feed. So instead, they told them to hide their weapons and just lay low until it was more advantages to re-activate them.
Just an edjucated guess though.

    • RE: G1

      :-)
First of all, you really have your work cut out for you not using a bid. The bid is recognised as a neccesary means to balance the game and give a variability to game play. I have never played with NAs’, but from what I’ve read over the years, few people bother with them.
        My usual G1 Strat is:
I prefer to buy one tank, 5 artillery and 5 infantry on G1. But, if you really want to see your Baltic fleet stick around for a couple of turns, may I suggest buying a DD to add to it.
I move one sub to SZ3 to block the UK from liberating Karilia on UK1.
I like to use the Bmbr to support my attack on Egypt with an inf and an armor transported in from S.E.
I bring my Atlantic sub in to attack the UK BB in WMed as cannon fodder to save ftr losses.
In Karilia, I like to go light, unless the Russians are fairly weak in West Russia, then I may go in with everything that I can, including the Germany AA gun, transported in with an Inf. Just don’t forget to bring up the S.E. AA gun to cover Germany
Without the bid, I don’t give you much hope of doing anything in Africa for very long, but Egypt is a must. If the UK can get that India fleet through the Suez on UK1, then you are in big trouble too early.

Placing four ftrs and 4 or more Infantry in W.E. will deter any landings there on UK1.
        Good luck, and good hunting!

    • RE: ART

      :-)
I have been expounding this very thing in a previous thread. Of course the purchase of a tank in every build is reasonable and useful, the majority of your IPC should go to a 2/3 Infantry and 1/3 Artillery. Some Allies will need to invest in ships and air units of course, but when it comes to ground units this is still a good buy policy. I don’t always adhere to it myself I confess, but it is still a good economic strategy.
