RE: Those blind U-Boat Commanders
@the-captain Thank you.
However, that PDF you provided is not relevant to my question, since it pertains solely to attacking with subs.
My trouble is with the fact that 1942.2 rules allow ennemy subs to be utterly ignored by passing ships, including even unescorted transports. IMHO, this rule is crazy and seriously reduces the functionality of submarines.
Which is why I wanted first to confirm I understood them correctly, as General6Stars appears to have confirmed. (but he did say he couldn’t remember for sure) -
RE: Those blind U-Boat Commanders
@general-6-stars Thank you.
If I understand you correctly, you’re saying I was right: submarines have no blocking power whatsoever and convoys can pass them by unhindered, including even unescorted transports.
…which raises my actual question: isn’t that crazy?
I mean, wolf packs were DESIGNED to block convoys! -
Those blind U-Boat Commanders
Wolf Packs roamed to Atlantic for the very purpose of blocking allied convoys… but this game makes convoys able to eagerly slip tru ennemy subs. Am I reading this wrong?
But seriously. Are convoys (or even unescorted transports, for that matter) actually allowed to pass by ennemy subs unhindered, and then drop their warloads on far-away seashores? For example, could the US pick up troops in Canada, then slip tru wolf pack in seazone 9, and then drop hell in France? (rulebook, page 13)
Yes, I am aware they cannot conduct amphibious assaults if subs are guarding the coastline… which leads us to my next question:
Non-combat move.
D-Day was successful: France has been taken by the brits. Still, there is a german sub in seazone 8 (don’t ask why). Same move from the Yankees: unescorted transport moving troops from Canada to France, as its non-combat move. (page 21 seems to allow unloading from unescorted transport as part of the non-combat move)Please tell me I’m wrong… and tell me why!

RE: Those weird rules about mobilizing fighters and AC
@krieghund Thank you very much, your help is deeply appreciated!
It’s a pleasure to hear we got things right for AA42 and that weird 5-space fighter shenanigan. Glad they removed it.As for landing fighter in a sea zone waiting for a carrier to be built, I agree it cannot be found in AAR OOB. We got it from this “Axis & Allies Revised FAQ”:
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/assets/uploads/files/1564430594417-axis-amp-allies-revised-faq.pdfThis FAQ is from 2010, so cannot be some hybridation from 2014 LHTR.
Page 7 clearly states:
“An existing fighter (…) that is in the sea zone where the aircraft carrier is built can immediately be moved onto a newly built carrier.”
So, where did we get it wrong?Encore merci pour votre aide,

Those weird rules about mobilizing fighters and AC
Trying to decipher what can and cannot be done when mobilizing fighters and/or Aircraft Carriers. And to make things worse, I need an answer both for REVISED and for 1942-2nd-EDITION, since our playgroup enjoys both versions.
These we know we can do, with either version:
1-bring out a brand new AC loaded with brand new fighters
2-park old fighters above water and slip a brand new AC under themThis, apparently, can only be done with REVISED:
3-build a brand new AC and move old fighters onto it from land (from which the AC came)
(I guess the fighters came from too far to reach the sea zone and profit from #2, above)This, apparently, can only be done with 1942-2nd-Ed:
4-bring out brand new fighters directly onto an old AC, adjacent to the land that produced themFirst off: is all of the above correct?
Second: isn’t it weird that REVISED doesn’t allow #4? or that 1942-2nd doesn’t allow #3?
Third: Am I correct to assume that, under the correct scenario, #3 could allow a fighter to actually move 5 spaces?Thanks!

Amphibious assault: shore bombardment and airplanes
When making an amphibious assault (without naval combat), Battleships can conduct Shore Bombardment. (rulebook pages 15 & 29)
On both these pages, the rules specify that ‘…battleship fires once (…) against enemy land units…’Does this mean that airplanes cannot be hit by Shore Bombardment?
(a critical question if all defending units are airplanes)Nota: airplanes are NOT land units (see page 24), even while grounded.
Please make sure your responses conform with A&A 2004 Revised edition.
