    • RE: SgtWilTan's mods and conversions of A&A pieces

      painting the whole set is a gigantic task. something i have not done.
      i started with the country i love and end up playing mostly the americans and then do the next lot.
      I finaly got to play the germans last weekend and becuase of the extra minis i have got for them i was able to be anal and play the first two rounds with dark grey panzer4d’s and dark grey mechs. Then replace new tanks with the new camo panzer4’s stug3’s and yellow cammo half traks and finaly at the end of the game my tigers and elephunts.
      The allies took great pleasure in bombing my tigers to hell after they counter attacked the allies off the normandy coast.

      The raised parts will do a good job especially if you do washes. They look nice and detailed. The mechs i did was one of two experiments and i liked the one with helmets i kept the paint brush random after all men dont sit there perfectly in line and added a couplie of dabs of highlight on parts of the helmets. It really doesnt matter if they are perfect as the eye and brain pick it all up and except it so.

      very nice painting. The dark lineing/washes give them thats sence of depth/scale which makes them easy on the eye.

      Last game i played i built a tank each round plus infantry. i kept the tank stack  behind the front in the south of russia. Its objective was to intimidate and threaten a counter attack and look for an advantage. While my infantry slowly held off the germans the tank stack went south and piled through the italians which were doing really well and helped the uk recover.

      the hmg sets are really nice and have been eyeing them up espeacillay the lvts and ships. not as good as the metal ones but far cheaper and unbreakable. I reckon they will paint up really nicely. unfortunatly the cost of shipping makes it easier for me to buy the metal ones at a slow trickle with out much shipping.

      @Viracocha i have moved since joining the forum to the fens but its about the same distance unfortunatly i dont get much free time these days with the baby and work. but i will keep it in mind

      Cheers.
      liveing along way away from friends and our one year old has left us with few chances to play that often but we are taking advantage of the royal bank holidays for a two day marathon next weekend. i am playing germany.
      it is starting to look good now with all navies painted and most countries done except for infantry. france and china are both not yet done but it gives me incentive to destroy them.

      Thanks. they are all lead. the HBG and FMG are not worth the shipping cost to uk. which is why i have gone down the mini route. without the international shipping they are a good price and quality.

      its good to hear you like the colours as i am colour blind in red and brown. The base is a no brainer vallejo model colour middlestone  with some (pale sand)white added. the camo colours are olive green  and beige brown straight out of the pot. A highlight is middlestone with a lot more white and drybrushed on.

      The bases are pva with sand. a dark base coat with lighter colours drybrushed over it.

      the collars are just a single line of valejo pale sand. i dont use white ever but that colour as white. even snow is not true white

    • RE: 1940 oob pieces: scale and color matching

      also in response to scale. tanks and such are definatly 1/285 i have loads from ghq and cinc  and match well.
      infantry are closest to 1/76 and in my tests with comparison with my shq 1/76 us vietnam miniatures and a 1/72 sculpted by the same artist. the 1/72 was bigger compared to the oob mini while 1/76 were spot on. that said not a magor difference with 1/72.
      also different manufacturers have differrent sizes anyway when you compare there 1/72 scales all together or any other scale.

      i have some 1/600 planes and they seem spot on

      the ships are alll over the place. each ship is a different scale only the liberty ship is close to 1/2400 scale < 13900cm /2400 = 5.7cm or 13900/3000 = 4.6 cm> all the rest were modelled for the game board

    • RE: Painted playing pieces

      They all look great. really good. i am about to paint some marines and paras but they are 20mm metal as the plastics from fmg is too much to ship uk. 20mm scale is 1/76 which is spot on for the board game figs.

    • RE: Begginings of vehicle and units rules inprogress

      @knp7765:

      @KillOFzee:

      Interesting, I like these ideas. Although these might be a little too complex to be implemented in such a broad strategic game. However, I do like the self propelled artillery and elite infantry. I think if you can make each nation more unique, you give new opportunities and make the game more fun. Well done!

      So, you think that certain units might only be available to some countries, but not others?  Interesting idea.  Sort of like the optional National Advantages rules.  oztea came up with some pretty good ones for Global I think.
      While I think you are right that having some nation specific units would be more realistic and might make the game more fun, I think it would also make the game too complex for my tastes.  That’s one reason I don’t use the National Advantages because it just seems like too much to remember.  The more you have to keep referring to the rulebook, it start to sap out the fun factor in my opinion.

      The important one for me is keeping german and russia evenly matched with equipment which they were. i cant see any other nation really needing some of them anyway. i might lighten the paratroops so that no extra unit is a game changer just a fun alternative as russia and italy will not have them.
